The Queue: Service with a smile

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
Welcome back to the Queue. We offer you service with a smile.Kenmoe asked...
"Is the construction of the Argent Tournament colosseum at all dependent on realm participation like Quel'Danas was? I was wondering if the goblin dailies 'A Chip Off the Ulduar Block' and 'Jack Me Some Lumber' helped construct the building faster. If so, is there any way to see progression like there was with Quel'Danas?"
No. The coliseum will come in patch 3.2, no matter what each server does beforehand. At least, that's what we know right now. It could all change however.
Xioyn asked...
"I am in exams right now and not downloading the patch. How much fun am I missing out on?"
The only think that you're missing out on is the first few days (or weeks) of the Argent Tournament dailies. It'll just take you a bit longer to get up to earning the mounts and other rewards.
Joe Smith asked...
"How much Haste should a balance druid have? I've been told that it's important to have, but tend to sink points into spellpower whenever i can. Is that wrong?"
As Nothilt noted in his reply to you, Haste is secondary to spell power. When I've evaluated Moonkin applicants to my guild, my team and I always look at Spellpower, Haste, and Crit. In that order. However much you have is however much your gear allows you to have.
Brady asked...
"Speaking of the novels, does Blizzard consider the novels to be canon, and does Blizzard have to approve the plots of them? Also, does Blizzard incorporate the story lines of the books into the lore of WoW?"
I'm answering this to the best of my knowledge from experience and past events and articles I've read. Blizzard considers them cannon until they're overridden in the game. There have been some things, such as Hakkar (one is the boss in Zul'Gurub and one is the Houndmaster) that have been a little odd.
Regarding your second question, Blizzard does hold pretty close intellectual control over the publishing of the novels. It's pretty standard practice for novels to have to be extensively reviewed and signed off before they're published – so I'd say yes.
As for your third question, just take a look at the whole Rhonin thing.

That never led to Naxx, it never led anywhere. It may be a relic, but it isn't a relic of anything that was ever useful.

I'm a druid and becasue of the dual spec from 3.1 , I've decided to make my second spec feral tank (my main is resto). I have adequate gear already from badges and tier drops.
But the 2 or 3 heroics ive done so far, have been major failures, the healers struggled to keep me up and dps is stealing aggro at the start of fights.
Has there been changes to bear tanks in 3.1 ? or am I just awful at tanking ?
Amberlyne Apr 23rd 2009 1:38AM
Bear tanking is easy. Bind Swipe, Maul and Mangle to three adjacent keys, and mash the hell out of them! I've lost significant health and armor on my druid, but Savage Defense does seem to more than make up for it in heroics and under.
Balius Apr 20th 2009 2:15PM
Druid tanks now need to visit a trainer and learn the skill "Savage Defense", which will shield them whenever they hit with a critical strike, absorbing the next attack for an amount equal to their attack power on the next hit they take. It's a mechanic meant to replicate shield blocks in paladin and warriors.

I have that spell,
I'm just stuggling to keep aggro on all the mobs at the start of pulls (especially trash). Dps seems to AOE before ive got enough rage to keep threat.
My mitigation seems to suck too, since healers are struggling to keep me above 15% HP on bosses.
I have mostly epic HC gear and some tier peices, so i dont think gear is my problem.
Have i totally missed something about Bear tanking ? Am i just a noob ? :)

I may be wrong but it seems to me of all the in-game non-combat pets, there are no dogs but plenty of cats. What's with the lack of dogs or am I wrong? My mage wants a puppy.

There is a Worg Pup as a quest reward for Blackrock Spire:

Haarits Apr 20th 2009 1:27PM
The Worg Pup's nice, but of course looks & sounds like a vicious wolf. We could use some actual puppies that make puppy-like noises. The cats could use some 'meow' sound effects, too, like you hear in the Dalaran pet shop.

So I have a more site related question: I'm trying to ge t a custom avatar. I clicked on and logged into my profile and uploaded a new avatar a couple weeks ago and it said it would appear within a couple hours. But for some reason when I post I still have the silly ogre. When I go to my profile I do see my avatar... I just don't see it here. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong if anything?
Balius Apr 20th 2009 2:19PM
If the image you uploaded is of three screenshots on a green background, it's appearing next to your posts.

On the WotLK soundtrack, there is a track called "Forged in Blood." Also, I haven't heard where the second half of "Rise of the Vrykul" plays. Where are these heard in game?
Shinn Apr 20th 2009 7:22PM
There are a couple of tracks on the disc that are (the proper term escapes me here, at uni doing programming so my mind is kerpew) *just for the disc*. Not sure if the ones you are talking about are those though. I think maybe rise of the Vykrul is played in or around Utgarde. Don't quote me on that though :)

So a more site related question: I uploaded a new avatar a couple weeks ago trying to get rid of this silly ogre but It doesn't seem to appear on the site.. It appears in my profile but It never loaded up on the site here (when I uploaded it It said it would take a couple hours). Any idea what i'm doing wrong? or just out of luck :).

and sadly I appear to be unable to delete my double post :( sorry
Sir Osis Apr 20th 2009 1:45PM
@Hoof
Does that mean if I haven't done any rep grinding with Oracles or Frenzyheart then I'm @ssed out of a pet?
Hoof Apr 20th 2009 2:08PM
not 100% sure, but I don't think it has anything to do with your Oracle/Frenzyheart standing. I don't think they are non-combat pets as much as they are quest items in the Northrend Children's Week events, but I may be mistaken.
Haarits Apr 20th 2009 4:31PM
Not sure if you'll need standing with one or the other; I do think there are actual pets involved, since there were two Gorloc & Wolvar items on the list I saw from MMO-Champion. One set clearly were the orphans, the other set was more generic in descriptions of the youngsters which said "pets" to me. It's Children's Week! When you finish taking an orphan around, you get a pet. So for Northrend, it's basically saying you've adopted your orphan, I suppose. At least, I hope that's the case.
After that "rescue the baby murlocs" quest in Borean Tundra, and the "rescue the next generation of wolvar by stealing the pups and killing the parents" in DB, either would make great pets... and with baby murlocs being nigh impossible to attain, a baby gorloc is the next best thing!

"Has the Ice Stone melted?"
Well, at a guess I'd say yes, today its been so warm!
Zemaya Apr 20th 2009 2:08PM
Two questions.
1. I used to use crusader enchants on my rogue. Did they remove that possibility of it stacking?
2. The new blacksmith plans that drop from Ulduar use 10-12 titansteel bars but the new tailoring patterns use 10-20 specialty cloths. Will Blizzard change the cooldown on special cloth to balance this out? A miner can make 10 titansteel bars in less than 10 days, as opposed to a tailor making 20 moonshroud in 40 day(if thats their speciality).
