Argent Tournament is for the casual player

The original poster complained that there was no epic item for Restoration Shamans. Other players chimed in with how iLevel 200 items this deep into the expansion made no sense. On the other hand, the weapons are flat out awesome-looking, and fairly easy to get at a casual, if somewhat glacial, pace. Blizzard insists that the content is designed for the "fun and flavor" and in that sense the Argent Tournament probably works. Still, gear is a compelling reason to play -- something Blizzard has acknowledged on numerous occasions -- and this is why the Argent Tournament rewards are less than appealing. Particularly in a World of Warcraft where even casual players can PUG 25-man raids for a shot at iLevel 213 gear or higher. In the new, more accessible raid design philosophy, even casual players can experience the so-called endgame. That's the true success (or some may argue, the failure) of Wrath.
This brings us back to the question about the Argent Tournament. Who was it designed for? The even-more-casual player? I mean, the Argent Tournament dailies take about as much time as a couple of one-boss raids like Malygos or Archavon. At this point, the event quests and items are just about perfect for players questing towards Level 80, but beyond that it seems counter to the whole new raiding philosophy aimed at letting players experience the dungeons that Blizzard has worked so hard on. As hard as Ulduar is touted to be, even Blizzard predicts that it will be PUGgable at some point. What sense is there in the Argent Tournament then?
On the other hand, some of the coolest things from the tournament aren't epic gear but flavor items such as tabards, banners, and city-themed pets. It will be tedious to get, but they're there for those industrious (or casual) enough to grind for them. In the end, Blizzard stands by its direction for the Argent Tournament, with Nethaera's somewhat cheeky but appropriate "If it's not something of interest to you, then it's not something of interest to you," ending the argument. Of course, that neglects the possibility that maybe even non-casual players want to participate in this event. It should be noted that we're only seeing the first phase of the tournament, and the coliseum hasn't been constructed yet. Who knows what Blizzard might have up its sleeves then?

I'm a little amazed at how often people complain when something new and innovative is added to the game. The more choices you have, the more you have to do, the more value for your buck, the more longevity you'll get.
WoW is probably the only game I've been able to play every day for over 3 years. While it's cost me a small subscription every month to play, it has saved me hundreds of dollars in the long run as I used to always be buying new games to play, and most ended up discarded as they were frustrating or tedious. WoW gives me plenty to keep my occupied and each class is a very different experience in leveling.
Complaining about content and accessibility is just like complaining that someone has given you too many goods. It's a grab bag. Some stuff you won't use. Other stuff is great.

This is the biggest problem with the internet.
The people who complain are always the loudest. The ones not complaining (the vast majority) are busy playing the game. This make it seems like all people do is complain.
Lord forbid we just ignore the whiners...

Just another arena for arena players. AKA hardcore players. But that's okay. Us non-hardcore level 80 players can grind repetitive AT quests for cool looking but otherwise mostly worthless purples.

What irks me is that they put in this lovely casual solo content, and then at Champion make it impossible to get your 5 badges a day without grouping for the two-badge quest (a 3 man dragon kill, which - having been entirely geared through pugs, I couldn't solo). This just stopped being something I could do on my own terms when it suited me :/ especially as the interest dies down and only the hardcore remain. Getting pets etc at 60% speed suddenly takes a year instead... :(

A sign that this is going to grow is the fact the content (i.e. the buildings) are being contructed before our eyes.
I would classify myself as a casual raider but because I have been forced into from lack of PvP access to equal gear. Although this isn't equal to the 213 gear, it is a nice alternative and I will most likely have my alts work on AT before the raiding starts. I'm glad Blizz is giving other things a chance and not limiting the game to a few pointed directions.
Also, who can complain about having a squire chasing you around?

All the points in the article are very valid, but we all need to remember that out of the 11 million players out there, wowinsider writers and the reader audience is on the hardcore minority side. "Casually" pugging ulduar still requires some serious gear. For someone who has a couple of hours per week to play, the tournament is an entertaining way to spend their time.

I'm playing a bit on my deathknight every now and then, and these quests give good xp, and while the gear they offer might not be all that compared to raid gear, it's a pretty nice and cheap way to gear up your alts when they ding 80, so you can pull your weight in naxx and not expect the better geared raiders to take you through.
I plan to get both a weapon and a neckpiece when she finally dings 80.

I raid and I wholeheartedly approve of "Just for fun" stuff. If anything we need more! A lot of my friends are very casual and I often feel bad relaying raid stories to them. They reach endgame and don't have a whole lot to do. So thank you Blizzard for this ^_^ Heck, I intend to get myself a Silvermoon tabard and some of the minipets.

I think the Argent Tournament is fantastic.
In my opinion, the vast majority of those who complain about this kind of "fun and flavour" content are those that are offended by any new content that is not a raid dungeon.

It's optional with additional mounts, pets, gimmics and a sweet looking weapons for the more casual none raiding types like me.
( I work third and am totally screwed cause I tried to join a third shift guild to find them not even speaking my language. )
In the end I bet we will have casual faction armor we can obtain. I really suggest enjoying it for what it truly is.
An option.
