WoW Moviewatch: Honor Killz by A6
I'll admit that I got to preview some of this new video, courtesy of Gigi. Long story short, the Hall of Fame of Belf Rap have come together to form a machinima rap supergroup called A6. (That's for Azerothian 6, you see.) Backed up by the awesome machinimator Red Eye Lobine, A6 has now released their first video -- Honor Killz.
The video itself is amazing. Red Eye has really put together a gorgeous video here. His attention to detail, his sense of setting and framing, and his detailed character work have created an incredible music video. I've never seen the blood elf models look so dynamic and interesting. His animation of the video's skit-within-a-movie was astounding, with a great sense of space and flow. (He also wisely executed an editorial bikini during the shower scene.)
The music itself was pretty good. I'm not a rap guru, so I can't evaluate it in terms of skill. However, I find the conglomerate of six people working the lyrics and tune to be very interesting. The way the song "talks" to itself made it something more than just a parody song.
As I mentioned, there was a skit within the video. I think the skit has a lot of personality, and was pretty amusing. It was definitely a good call to add some narrative content in the video, which helps provide its audience a sense of A6's relationship. They're not just a one time team-up, but people who know one another in some capacity.
Ultimately, "Honor Killz" is a worthy opening for the group. Let's see what they do next.

They use that armor so we can identify them. It kinda makes them if you get what i mean. And they also dont like the latest armor compared to those either. Abandonation, Nyhm and Decision all requested to keep their old armor since they just look more bad ass. Gigi, Demineon and myself got an upgrade in the machinima world though

Great video - I'm not rap's biggest fan, but the combination of great, stylised machinima that was well put-together coupled with good lyrics with a nice WoW-twist from some of the real superstars of WoW music made this a very enjoyable experience.
Also, I agree with some others - the shower scene was probably my favourite part, but there were some really good other bits in there too, like Nymh powerkicking the gnome ('energy legs' anyone?), which just made me laugh. Overall, visuals were great, parody was very good and it all synced-together nicely.

Already seen, I think it was even posted here but I don't like it.. their videos (nymh, gigi.....) all look the same now to me. feel like I'm looking the same video all the time just with different audio (which doesn't sound too different either).
Fooliecoolie Apr 21st 2009 1:54PM
Probably because they generally base their songs off Emimen/D12 tracks. Video is nice but I prefer the Cranius/Summergale/Legs teamup "Ulduar" because it sounds unique.

Really cool vid

Acutally, I think if you like rap the song is more annoying (as it was for me). If you hate rap it's probably because all you hear is the crap they put on the radio. yeah that shit sucks. But dont use a joke video with a joke song to try to hate rap. there are plenty of other reasons to hate rap than that lol.
I kinda wish that rap wasnt such a joke anymore. and it's vids like this that prove it. At least its good to know I'm not the only black guy playin WoW haha.
Besides the song though, It was one of the better edited vids I've seen. I liked it alot.
markymark Apr 21st 2009 2:06PM
First off your not the only Black person who plays WoW. Second its a parody of a D12 song what more can you expect from a simple parody. To anyone who doesn't like rap that's fine that's why god invented the mute button. At the very least critiques the visuals which were amazing good job Redeye.
Agony Apr 21st 2009 4:23PM
Nice job reading, markymark.
"At least its good to know I'm not the only black guy playin WoW haha."
Notice that word after the contraction "I'm" in the sentence above? Yeah, that's where Skyshot says that he's NOT the only black guy playing WoW.
Now, we have this:
"It was one of the better edited vids I've seen."
Hmm...sounds sort of like he IS critiquing the visuals, wouldn't you say?
Markymark Apr 21st 2009 8:11PM
To Agony: I should have been more specific since you want to comb through posts and comment on my post.
"At least its good to know I'm not the only black guy playin WoW haha."
When he mentioned the contraction "I'm" in the sentence I knew he was refering to some of the Artists in the video and furthermore me myself being Black I mean't to state in in agreement that he was definitely not the only one.
As far as my comment on critiquing the visuals it was not directed at Skyshot it was toawrd anyone does not like rap music....
Skyshot Apr 22nd 2009 3:42PM
I knew the song sounded familliar, but yeah, I didn't like the D12 version either. Actually I'm not sure who would, even people who like the commercial prepackaged rap.
I'll stick with old school/underground, thank you.

Loved the video. Props to Lobine.
Can't say the same for the singers and the song. Ugh, if there was a way to wash that out of my ears I would.

Definately one of my favorite machinmas. I'm glad these guys have such talent and share it with all of us. High quality, great storyline and cool lyrics. Keep up the work, it takes WoW machinima to another level. :)

Wow, I really liked it, despite not being so into rap.
I had to pause it to read some of the subtitles though - they go by too quick.
Great job to all that were involved.
X-Cross Apr 21st 2009 2:47PM
Not a big rap fan either but yet don't care about the haaaaters! Awesome lyrcis ofc and Red, you do the most awesome editing as always and that's what makes this video so special imo. Also I can't say they rap very bad but the only problem is that they got different microphones so it sounds pretty wierd imo >.
J Apr 21st 2009 2:24PM
Sigh.
Do you ever NOT update with one of these guys? Are they seriously the only people that make WoW videos? We get it, you're a fan. Everything they make is AMAZING.
That aside, the video's visuals are nice. Well presented and put together. The lyrics are generic epeen stroking bullshit, and Gigi still can't sing.
These videos are all the same. omg we rawk PVP. omg we like to sing about ourselves dominating everyone! All the time!
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Shadowfax Apr 21st 2009 2:33PM
Excellent editing work, Redeye! Very very well done.
issachan Apr 21st 2009 2:39PM
Hey look, Blood Elf centre figure.
Hey look, street-culturish writing and a certain appearance that is designed to intimidate opponents of these people, whoever they may be.
Hey look, its clearly about PVP. "Honor Killz" How original!
Why did I just have three cases of massive deja vu?
Because its the same stuff as always. PVP-based videos featuring blood elves, viewed by many as the best looking race, with hip hop - masculinity elements. Boring...
SocalVal Apr 21st 2009 2:52PM
So you rather a 3o minute video of some EU guild downing Yogg Saron to funkt Techno Music? I mean only so much WoW related Machinima is posted daily. Not everyone will like it so why complain about seeing deja-vu.
issachan Apr 21st 2009 3:09PM
Uh.. no I wouldn't want to watch an over the top, "extended cut" boss kill...
I only watch PVE or PVP videos if they have intrinsic non enternainment value, I mean, if they actually are designed to communicate something to me other than to entertain. Like boss fights, I watch them only for the purpose of assisting in learning a fight, and avoid ones which are excessively long or not explained.
What I want to see (not that I haven't already) is machinima that breaks convention with these stereotypes. Indeed, it is a large proportion that have been posted on WoW Moviewatch.
Of course not everyone will like a certain video. I will complain about this video, because, well, I can. I guess this comment applies not only to this video as well, because it makes note of sterotypes made in other videos. And, comments serve a purpose, to allow opinion to be posted in a public place.
Feeling like I've seen videos with this content before is a feeling that I'd like to express outwardly... I was originally going to write a more rage-filled and troll-like post, but felt that my opinion itself would be obscured by the anger.
Yeah, I could've gone and yelled into a pillow about it, but maybe intelligent discussion of why I am having this thought is a better course of action in this case if I actually want to see any change to the seemingly endless supply of posts on WI for these type of vids.
SocalVal Apr 21st 2009 5:21PM
This type of video is not some sort of stereotype. It's a genre and although the artists in question have been posted various types before doesnt warrant a long tirrade on what video is acceptable for WI Moviewatch. In short if you got nothing constructive to comment about other than the music or genre don't comment.
