The technical reasons are with wxWidgets. However, wxWidgets did not suddenly become a toolkit that produces non-native LAF (look-and-feel) applications with fewer platforms supported. The current situation is due to 6-12 months ago, curse, knowing that, chose to use wxWidgets and hasn't replaced it in the interim.
I'm not saying that curse is the first software developer to make tradeoffs to compromise quality to save time/money although my guess is it will turn out to have been quicker/cheaper to do it correctly the first time. Certainly there is always pressure to reduce time/cost these days.
[There were a few updaters that were just a Python script, and the curse Mac client has been discussed since July, so I would have expected more progress by now. but w/e. While none of my software has ever shipped late, I have heard of other developers being late. :-)
Regardless, we are where we are and I hope the rewrite to fix the 3.0 client goes well and quickly.
