2) They didn't have a choice. It was either block wow matrix or go under. They could not wait until their new clients were ready.

3) Arcus - there was a post on the UI/Macros forum and on the wow interface site. The best thread I've found I've linked above. Wow insider won't let me link more than 3 URLs so you'll have to click on e of the ones above and go to the start of the thread.
After this has happened , wow matrix has now gone back to hosting addons with out the authors permissions or in some cases hosting old versions of addons with a GPL license. Which is why wow matrix "seems" to work for you
