Dealing with bank inventory management
April's dealing with a problem that I've dealt with many times before: bank management. The other day I posted some tips on inventory management, but bank management is a knot that even I can't quite figure out how to untangle. On the one hand, bank space is supposed to be your refuge -- you can only pick things up out in the field as long as you have an empty inventory space for it. But on the other hand, especially on your main, you pick up a lot of things that seem important at the time -- tier gear, your first trinket, that piece you farmed for months until it finally dropped, that Blizzard Bear that you know is account bound, but you just can't bear to give it up. Stuff piles up after a while, and eventually you're carrying stuff around in your backpack that should really be sitting in your bank... and would be if you had room to keep it in there. The only real tip I have is that you have to be ruthless -- you'll probably never use those trinkets again, that Tier 0 armor won't ever really be needed anymore, and you might as well eat those Delicious Chocolate Cakes that you made for a rainy day. You might as well use those cooking and profession mats you've got sitting around now, because if they aren't worth anything at the moment, they probably won't be worth any more in the future. And yes, I know you've only got so much Noggenfogger left, but you might as well go ahead and drink it on the next fun guild run. It sounds harsh, but in a game that's really about collecting, we all tend to have a packrat side.
And if worst comes to worst, just create yet another bank alt, charter yet another bank guild, and start filling those bags up also. With all of the junk we've got coming through, they'll probably be full to the brim in no time.

Personally, I'd save the cake for Children's Week and a certain achievement...

Call me strange, but I like piling all kinds of crap into my bank.
About once every two months, I go through all of my banks, and sell everything I don't need/want. I make about 3k doing it that way. I know I could make just as much if I sold it individually overtime, but I did warn you that I'm strange like that.

I do the same thing. My issue, especially since wrath, is what to do with all my tier armor. I cant sell it, I cant DE it, but I'm afraid of getting rid of it.
To add to that, I have some novelty armor and weapons that mean alot to me for one reason or another: my tier shoulders and helm from BC, special armor that has some special ability (gloves with 50% disarm duration reduction for disarm heavy instances), and weapons or shields that mean something to me or is really unique (BS'ing swords, shields I level'd with as prot, class specific weapons, Jin'rohk+Zin'rokh, and other just really cool weapons)
Fortunately I have a nice large 4 tab guild bank that I use to store all my supplies (tabs for food, ore, herbs, and one for miscellaneous stuff.)

1. Realize you have a problem finding crap in your bank/storing more crap
2. Buy 20-slot bags
3. Install and configure Ark Inventory
4. ...
5. PROFIT!

You're right. No one with 20 slot bags could EVER have an inventory problem.
Oh wait.

I'ved used a bag mod before and actually liked it. Everything was neat and organized into sections.
However, one glaring issue was separating BOE green armors/weapons from your regular off-spec gear. I'd run off to sell the junk in my bag only to find the greens with my "equipment" section later on.
Is there a better way of handling that?

In Ark Inventory, at least, you can assign Soulbound gear and Non-soulbound gear to seperate bars
Stormsinger Apr 22nd 2009 4:10PM
Anyone know of a rule for arkinventory that will separate gear by slot? That would be really helpful for my Pally and Druid.
Gnosh Apr 22nd 2009 4:21PM
In the Sorting section of Config, activate By Slot sorting and move it above rarity, itemlevel, anything that would interfere. In fact, consider moving it to the top, because it only affects equippable gear, as far as I know.

And if all else fails and you can't sort something the way you want it based on Blizzards criteria, you can always make a custom category and assign items to it manually. Like a 'Ret Gear' category that you assign all your ret gear to.

In Baggins, I have a category for BoE items, which is pretty easy to do. I also have Outfitter and LibFilter so I separate out my defined gear sets from things like quest rewards that are just lurking about and need to be vendored or sharded.

How is swapping out my bags for ones that are two slots smaller supposed to help my inventory management problem?

You are looking for the equip rule.
equip( tabard )
equip( shirt )
equip( finger )
etc...
All the rules that can be used in Arkinventory are listed here, as well as explanations for what they do.

I think blizzard should give us a way to remotely access our bank. I hate have to hearth and access my bank.
BioHazard Apr 22nd 2009 3:30PM
They should make it another engineering thingy. Perhaps a "Portable Bank Bot", a "Super-Safe Bank Portal Generator", or maybe a "Portable Gigamatic Space-Time Cruncher" or something. :)

I am so guilty. I have 3 bank alts for matts and other stuff. Unfortunately I can not send them the soulbound trinkets and old epic gear I works so hard to obtain... the soulbound holiday items... Guess it is time to clean the banks out.. whimper, whimper....
h8rain Apr 22nd 2009 3:21PM
I never had a bank alt before, but all the non-soulbound does tend to pile up. So I created a nice new bank alt with some large profession bags, and all 20 slot bags. Plus, I will use it for AH mule (to buy or sell).
No bank alt is complete without a good name. My *bank*'s name:
Bailout

A while back I found a great add-on for sorting my inventory and I quickly replaced Mr. Plow because it works incredibly fast. It's called 'Bank Stack' (link below).
Recently I discovered that it can also be used on the guild bank using the slash command /sort guild# (replacing the # with the banks tab number, if you do just /sort guild it really screws things up and often fails)

I also agree with Gnosh, investing in 20-slot bags, as well as installing ArkInventory help.
Nolan Rumble Apr 22nd 2009 3:23PM
I think if you have a mammoth, you should be able to put a 20-slot bag on him for storage. If a mount can hold two vendors on it, it sure should be able to hold a couple bags for your own personal mini-bank
