Guild Season 2 DVD preorder available now, out 5/19
The Guild's second season is now available for preorder on DVD, and apparently it's an Amazon Exclusive -- yes, the ever-more-corporate folks at The Guild are going with the big online retailer to distribute their second DVD collection. But we can't blame them too much -- surely it's a chance at a wider distribution, and probably less work for them in general. You can preorder the DVD set right now for just $12.99, and according to The Guild's site, the set will have commentary tracks, subtitles in English, and Behind the Scenes and Audition footage. If you're as much of a fan of the series as we are, it sounds well worth the purchase.Amazon has a release date of May 19th, and it also looks like they're doing a re-release of season one on the same day (though we're not sure if that new season one cover demotes new material or if it's the same version of the season one DVD they were selling before). And of course if you're not interested in picking up any extras, you can still just watch the episodes online at their site, or by downloading them in HD from Xbox Live for free.

is it any good?

Yes. Watch an episode or 2 online to see if you like it.

Boo at the "ever more corporate" jab. The Guild is totally awesome and deserves as wide a distribution as they can get. Good for them, I say!

"Boo at the "ever more corporate" jab. The Guild is totally awesome and deserves as wide a distribution as they can get. Good for them, I say!"
Yes. We've only ever gotten good things from corporations. Corporations, and their never-ending, resource-consuming, quest for money have NEVER corrupted anything for the sake of "the market" or to "make money".
Fun Fact: Corporations are responsible for inflating all the pretty balloons in the world! They are the keepers of the magical places where, candy, rainbows, ponies, and fairies come. They even make sure, every night, that all good puppies and kitty-cats get sweet little kisses on their sweet little button noses!
Tee Hee!

Seconded. Making money doing what The Guild do - money that's needed in order to, you know, actually live whilst putting insane amounts of time into it - is really hard. Really, really hard. They deserve congratulations for finding a way to do so.
If you'd like The Guild to continue, then they need to find a way to make a living. Making nasty little jabs at them for doing so is Not Cool.

Uh. Hi there Pope Jamal. I can't really tell if your over the top sarcasm is jokingly meant, trolling or just intoxicated, but in the off chance that there's a wee bit of human intelligence in there somewhere, you are no doubt capable of understanding the concept of degrees. As in, there are more options besides "corporations are all evil!" and "corporations are all wonderful!"
As Hugh comments below you, it's a sad fact of the world that people do in fact need money in order to create awesome things. Sure, there's a lot you can do without money, but that'll only take you so far. You can write fan fiction in your basement to your heart's delight and never need to get paid, but if you want to quit your day job, you might want to start looking for someone to pay you for your efforts. Welcome to the real world.

@Gessilea
ha, good rebuttal.

Season 1 was much better, season 2 was only fair in my book.

I'd only get it on DVD if the episodes lasted longer than 5 minutes.

I like The Guild, but I'm not sure about paying $13 for a show that's... what, 40 minutes a season? That's less than two Simpsons episodes.

don't waste your money

You'd think with all their success they could get one of their rabid fans to make them a logo that doesn't look like it was made in MS paint...

Haha, that was the first thing I thought when I saw this picture.

Given the length of their "season" I'm surprised they're going to waste (in so very many ways) a DVD. They should call AOL (Do they still exist?) and ask if they still have a warehouse or three full of those 1.44meg floppies they used to bury everyone's mailbox in.
They'd be perfect. Cheap, no doubt you could get them for the cost of hauling them away, more then enough capacity, "Earth friendly" recycling, and since few have a floppy drive anymore there's little risk of anyone watching this drek.
It's Win-win!

I believe the DVD carries all sorts of extras... interviews, behind the scenes, etc. From their website (www.watchtheguild.com): "Play all feature (lol), Commentary Tracks, English Subtitles, Behind the Scenes Videos, Audition Footage, and more!"
I plan to buy it because A. the show is awesome and B. as someone who grew up with the internet (and is disenfranchised with Hollywood in general), I want to support non-standard film and video.

Second paragraph, please changes "demotes" to "denotes."
thanks.
