In praise of fishing dailies
I have to say: I am so happy that we have fishing dailies back in the game. Leafshine has found a new addiction to fishing, and I have, too: though I'm a little underwhelmed with the actual rewards (while I was a little taken aback by the cooking daily awards system when it first came out, now I really like it, and wish they'd come up with a version of that for fishing), I like the quests, and I like taking my hard-earned Mastercraft Kalua'k Fishing Pole and going out into the world to find some fish. Leafshine is exactly right: it's a terrific way to kill a few minutes that really doesn't feel like a grind at all. And while you're out fishing, there's no better time to keep an eye out for pools, too -- you never know when that Turtle mount might drop. You might say that fishing is boring, and it is -- though they've made some really generous changes to how it levels up, you're still going to be clicking a bobber for a long, long time. But it's never been so rewarding in terms of what you can get, and it is probably the most fleshed-out minigame in Azeroth. If you, like me, sometimes prefer a little break from the usual combat (the war, if you will, of Warcraft), I can't recommend Fishing highly enough.

Twice so far i've gotten a bell that vendors for 100 gold from the fishing dailies.
That's a pretty good reward for a 5-10 minute daily.

The only good thing I got so far was the Weather Beaten Fishing Hat. I'll never have to buy or make a lure again.

Yeah, fishing dailies are amazing. 100g for a bell, 150g for a battered jungle hat, 26g for a painting etc. So many people are out on the open fishing all of a sudden. Since 3.1 here's real competition on fishing nodes. Food prices are down too due to the quantities of fish in the AH. It's safe to say that 3.1 is great for fishermen!

The one thing I don't understand is why the Velociraptor skull vendors for so little. That should be worth a fortune!

A better reward is the lvl 80 epic gems.

Anyone know what happened to the new bobbers that were supposed to be coming? I know it's not a big deal, but now that I'm fishing more, I was hoping to have a rubber ducky or kitten bobber.

I've received the 1 hour lure that gives you 100+ fishing skill. That may be what you're refering to.

i think he might actually be refering to the new... well, the thing you click when it splashes :D
Was also expecting the new one, the duck was adorable!

The bobbers were found in the game files but no one said when or how they'd become available.

I got the Tiny Titanium Lockbox with a Stormjewel and really nice blue ring. I was pretty excited to see something good for once :O

Switching mains was great, as it gave me an excuse to lvl fishing on a second character! I love getting out there and fishing, but with work and raids, I don't get to do it as much as I'd like.

I guess you haven't done the Jewel of the Sewers quest yet, the drop rate is horrible. I spent about half an hour today trying to get it, and heard of people who had been there for over an hour trying to catch it. And my fishing skill is at 450 + every type of bonus I can muster.

Wow, the other day I got a Runed Stormjewel from the Fishing Daily Bag, sold it for 1200g Woot!
Dementron Apr 23rd 2009 2:01AM
You don't seem able to catch it in the shallows. Try fishing near the inn, it seems to drop very quickly there.

Yeah, the RNG is really random on this quest. I have three 80's doing the quest, and my main - with capped fishing - had to fish for twenty minutes a couple of days ago in order to catch the corroded jewel while wearing his fishing hat and using the fishing hat lure.
Logon my JC shammy with a miserable 200 in fishing at the time but in Hungry Tuskar form and the fishing hook from the old Outlands fishing dailies. Cast one...junk...cast two...Giant Sewer Rat (yes, the pet)...cast three corroded jewel. Keep in mind that while I was thrilled to catch the pet, I have been trying forever to get that pet on my main, so it was bittersweet at best. Then again, this is the same alt that got his while polar bear mount on his second daily...damn lucky Draenei.
Anyway, I'm loving the new fishing dailies, but I'd really like it if the fishing dailies (and cooking dailies) would cycle through the possibilities rather than being random. I have yet to get the Wintergrasp daily on Fenris.

Fishing has really grown on me as well. When I first started WoW I didn't dream of cooking or fishing but I really feel like Blizzard has brought some cool stuff to the table for them.

True story... After doing my second fishing daily, I was rewarded with the Tiny Titanium Lockbox. Inside the box I received The 555 Ring, a Stormjewel, and a couple of rare gems. Thirty minutes later, the turtle mount dropped from a pool in Grizzly Hills. I'd have to say fishing rocks!

Agreed! The fishing dailies are great fun and a nice break from the other dailyquestfarming. Fishing overall is pretty relaxing tbh :p
Did the Jewels in the Sewers and got the jewel on the 4:th cast... Guess I got lucky. Best thing I got so far is the Tower Key that vendors for 10g -.- And some Glow Worm lures that last for 1h, pretty nice.

I played Runescape when I was a lot younger, so I refuse to do any general "skilling" that requires any significant amount of grinding, even if it would be a good thing. I wasted far too much time in that game, and (attempt) not to in wow with varying amounts of success.
