In praise of fishing dailies
I have to say: I am so happy that we have fishing dailies back in the game. Leafshine has found a new addiction to fishing, and I have, too: though I'm a little underwhelmed with the actual rewards (while I was a little taken aback by the cooking daily awards system when it first came out, now I really like it, and wish they'd come up with a version of that for fishing), I like the quests, and I like taking my hard-earned Mastercraft Kalua'k Fishing Pole and going out into the world to find some fish. Leafshine is exactly right: it's a terrific way to kill a few minutes that really doesn't feel like a grind at all. And while you're out fishing, there's no better time to keep an eye out for pools, too -- you never know when that Turtle mount might drop. You might say that fishing is boring, and it is -- though they've made some really generous changes to how it levels up, you're still going to be clicking a bobber for a long, long time. But it's never been so rewarding in terms of what you can get, and it is probably the most fleshed-out minigame in Azeroth. If you, like me, sometimes prefer a little break from the usual combat (the war, if you will, of Warcraft), I can't recommend Fishing highly enough.

Since Runescape is built on repetitive grinding, he's posting to say that he won't go "back to it", as it were.

It's not that it's too complicated, far from it, it's just that it's simple grinding, doing the same thing over and over, and I did far too much of it in other games for me to enjoy doing it here.

Kinda agree, i have a zillion alts, some of which are really powerful and cool, which i just dont have time to play. I choose my playtime carefully. I already got fishing to max on one char (albeit on a different faction from the rest of my toons). Anyway, i started fishing again, its much less painless. But still, i don't have the interest to fish in game, even if the rewards are awesome. I have alot of money (well enough). I'm pretty content with what i got.

I love fishing in WoW. I'm still trying to catch my sewer rat. I probably wasted 2 hours fishing for it today.
BaldOak Apr 23rd 2009 1:09AM
Only 2?
Charneldeath Apr 23rd 2009 6:36AM
I snagged the Sewer Rat on my very first cast, true story. The first Northrend daily, I got the fishing hat. Why I didn't play the lottery, I don't know.
However, the turtle still eludes me, as does STV.

I completely agree. The first faction I maxed was the Ka'aluk to get the fishing pole, but the appeal of fishing started to wane soon after. The dailies are fun because they get me out fishing again in a way that doesn't feel like a horrible boring grind.

I've been an avid fisher-gnome since I started playing WoW, having won the STV contest 3 times in a one month span (on two characters) prior to the Achievements patch, and the new dailies are the best addition to fishing since the first set of Outlands dailies.
I've only had 3 different versions of the new daily available since the 3.1 patch, but so far I've gotten the new pimp hat (grey item) and 2 of the Diamond-tipped canes. Still haven't gotten any jewels or the Strand Crawler though.
And I've fished up over 1500 fish/crates/Crystallized Waters since last Tuesday and still no Sea Turtle for me...

What sucks is the first or second day I did the fishing daily I got the jewelled fishing rod which has +30 fishing and in one fell swoop totally negated all the rep grind for the Mastercraft Kalua'k Fishing Pole worthless. I'm fairly pissed at Blizz for that.
Rurrik Apr 22nd 2009 10:13PM
Except the fact you can kick the crap out of things with the Kalua'k fishing pole and breath water forever (unless you can already do that then never mind)...
Kemikalkadet Apr 23rd 2009 4:51AM
They reduced the DPS of the Kalu'ak pole :( I don't really see why as it's annoying as hell to fight off mobs around fishing spots with a pole equipped.
edsdame Apr 23rd 2009 5:04AM
@Kemikalkadet:
They say that the cange was unintentional, and will be changed in a future patch.
rosencratz Apr 23rd 2009 7:03AM
The Kalu'ak one still looks better than the jeweled one in my opinino.
I want that bone one though.
Yersavior Apr 23rd 2009 12:24PM
Yeah, I second that it wasn't very nice for them to nerf the DPS on the Mastercraft Fishing Pole. It WAS a great two hander and very reasonable to use while leveling fishing.
I look at the Mastercraft pole has the reward for those who have endured leveling fishing. It's a grind. I would like to see Bliz reinstate it to it's former epic self but maybe raise the level requirements for using it to make it the ultimate fishing pole. If they don't want to make it back into a DPS weapon then make it a faster catch rate or something.
BTW - I look at the epic tabard for the Loremaster the same way. This is a massive grind and it should reward you with some stats. Think about it, if you have done basically every quest in they game you should be much smarter and much stronger for the effort right?

These are way better than the cooking dailies which essentially put your valiant hero in the role of a bus boy.
Sleutel Apr 22nd 2009 9:20PM
I, too, am thrilled to have fishing dailies back in the game, but...
That the Ghostfish quest is a daily is driving me insane.
After the first time I do it, it isn't really a mystery anymore, is it? And if the lady forgets, well, there should be an option for me to say, "Oh yeah, I totally checked this out already--it turns you invisible." And then she will say, "Orly? Kthxbye," and hand me a bag of nifty things. And then I will be saved a trip out to Sholazar and several minutes of bobber-clicking.
Kyol Apr 22nd 2009 10:08PM
Ah, but at least the flight to sholazar doesn't route you around wintergrasp any more, totaling six stinkin' minutes in the air, or maybe 3 on a fast flyer. ugh ugh ugh.
Sleutel Apr 23rd 2009 12:16AM
Yeah, the new route is a godsend.
That doesn't change the fact that this is a retarded premise for a DAILY quest. Hey, Blizz, look up "mystery" in a dictionary, would you?
Vajarra Apr 22nd 2009 9:38PM
How can you be underwhelmed by the jeweled fishing pole?! Or the diamond-tipped cane?
I'm personally hoping for the Crawler pet.
Xevius Apr 22nd 2009 9:46PM
I rather like the fishing daily,
I was looking forward to them introducing it.
