Lots of people interested I see...1.1k is a lot for the average lower middle class WoW player I guess.

Heh, I mean its an auction for a charity.
If I had the money I'd definitely donate.
ScytheNoire Apr 23rd 2009 9:29AM
What, no Frostmourne?
Awesome bundle though, would be worth it if I had the money.
Just happens to be on some obscure website with a very short time limit. Would do much better on a major site like eBay.

What isn't clear is whether or not the Collector's Editions are completely new or whether they have already been used by an account. (Since Blizz doesn't recognize transfer of accounts this is a crucial bit of information). I'm more than willing to bid on this if I can set up an account for them, but not if they're already used, like most of the "Collector's Editions" you see on places like Ebay......

is the WOTLK autographed by tigole? cause i doubt it..........
pushmonk Apr 23rd 2009 9:49AM
Yes, I'm sure the games are used, the CDs are scratched, the books spines are broken, the one year gift card was for last year, the Murlok's batteries are dead, and the loot card has been scratched.

I'm pretty sure they would have made more and gotten more people interested if they separated the items. As is I own two of the collector's editions, the artbook, the plush, and certainly won't be bidding $1200 on a basket containing a bunch of stuff I already have and some stuff I don't. Way to fail planning, guys.

You could just re-sell the things you don't need

Apparently it speaks a variety of "Nerglish" phrases.

$40 and currently out of stock at Jinx.com
They're going for more than $70 on ebay.
As for the rest of you. It's a charity auction boneheads. You put together a basket and you hope that some wealthy aunt will pay $4000 for a $3000 basket, she gets that warm contributor feeling and her nephew gets the basket for his birthday. Right now it's a great value since the Spectral Tiger card is selling for more than $900 on ebay, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the price climb in the next few days.
On the other hand - with the current economy - wealthy aunts aren't being quite a generous as they used to.

I thought WI was going to start banning these people
Maitri Apr 23rd 2009 11:07AM
Wow.
They'd probably have more luck auctioning each item separately, no?

I just want to congratulate Lesley on spelling "Peninsula" right every time despite the overwhelming urge most gamers have to mispell it at least once. ;)
Rowan Apr 23rd 2009 11:23AM
Sad they don't have some of the more desirable items: Inflatable Frostmourne, Turtle Mount (the slow one), Blizzcon 2007 Bear, X52 Rocket mount (or w/e it's called). I'd bite if it actually had in-game items I wanted...and if I had the money. :(
Szaboa Apr 23rd 2009 11:48AM
Fortunately the auction isn't aimed at you Rowan, or any of us. Most charity auctions are aimed at people who have a donation budget. Let's say someone has $5,000 they plan to donate to charity this year. They can either just give the $5,000 and get a pathetically small tax write off, or they can overbid on one of these charity auctions, and get a great gift to give to someone they know who plays computer games.
The name of the game is to make an attractive mixed basket that will attract gamers and non-gamers to donate. Some baskets will go for under or around their value, but hopefully most will go for far above the retail value.
Another consideration is that these baskets are usually contributed by corporations to the charity, so they make money no matter what.
While you'd make more money splitting up the basket, the charity usually makes more money by putting together as awesome a package as they can.

This is soooo funny. I went to school there and my mom used to run this charity 10 years ago.

Really now... do tell?
