Phat Loot Phriday: Soulscribe

Name: Soulscribe (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWDB)
Type: Epic Unique Main-hand Dagger
Damage/Speed: 88-283 / 1.80 (103.3 DPS)
Attributes:
- +54 Stamina, +49 Intellect. These stats and the name point to Warlocks as the main users of this dagger, but really, given the rest of the stats, almost any caster could get some good use out of this thing. The main thing it's missing is Spirit, so if you count on that, you might want to look elsewhere, but this is Ulduar gear: chances are it's an upgrade no matter who you are.
- Improves crit rating by 28 and haste by 48, again both nice for almost anyone.
- And improves spellpower by 550. Tasty.
- A "scribe," of course, is someone who writes, so a "soulscribe" would be an instrument for writing or erasing souls. Very powerful.
Getting Rid of It: You probably won't until Icecrown, if our suspicions are correct. While there may be another 25-man raid in the "secret" content patch, we're guessing it'll be more of a daily/reputation/5-man content patch kind of thing rather than a full in-game raid, which means that the next big round of raiding gear will likely come from Icecrown. But when those days come, you'll be able to vendor this for 22g 58s 82c, or disenchant it into an Abyss Crystal.

I call purposely risque image on you, WoW Insider!
Saint Apr 24th 2009 8:31PM
I might have a dirty mind, but I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Mike Schramm Apr 24th 2009 11:31PM
To tell the truth, I actually tried to rotate the image around so that it was as minimally risque as possible, but apparently it wasn't minimal enough. Trust me, there were many other angles where it was much more apparent.

Psh, you could have used a clothed female character instead of a naked male one.

"Dude, you guys, I've got such a Soulscribe for that chick."
Draele Apr 24th 2009 8:29PM
Actually, Mike, Warlocks now probably put Spirit to use better than most any other class. Between Fel Armor (30% of spirit to spellpower) and the Lifetap glyph (20% of spirit to spellpower for 20sec after using Lifetap) Spirit has become a very very attractive stat for Warlocks. It's to the point now that one point of Spirit is roughly worth one point of Haste/Crit rating.
Now trying to call you out on this particular, Mike, but Warlocks not liking Spirit is something of a relic of Warcraft lore left over from TBC/Vanilla. Just though I'd clarify =D

now = not
Todd Apr 25th 2009 12:14PM
Yeah, why would they mention Warlocks and not include Mages? Very suspect. Both of these classes would die for this dagger equally, and this fits both, equally.

This is currently the only properly itemized (read: no spirit/Mp5) one-handed weapon for Elemental Shamans that comes from Ulduar. This is a shame, both because it drops off of Yogg-Saron and because it, like you said, is basically an upgrade for any caster class. I thought Blizz was going in the right direction with Wraith Strike, but this just blows.

Welcome to homogenization.

you know what i think? i think patch 3.3 will be Grimbatol, and we fight deathwing, and his twilight dragonflight.
night of the dragon, obsidian sanctum, it all points to this.
Cybeloras Apr 24th 2009 8:58PM
considering 3.3 has already been confirmed as icecrown citadel, i think not
the sparten Apr 24th 2009 9:01PM
it has? i didn't know. 3.2 then.

We're not going to Grim Batol in this expansion.
I really don't get why people think we are. They've hinted the next expansion has something to do with Gilneas. Gilneas is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Grim Batol.
They've said the next patch is going to have a 5 man. Grim Batol as a 5 man? Seriously?
It's the same as Uldum and every other old world area that hasn't been opened. Hyjal, the area west of Tirisfal, the nook north of Stratholme, the zone east of Burning Steppes. They'll have their day, but in this expansion? Highly doubtful. Wait til Blizz releases their next MMO, and then we'll see re-tweaks of the old world.

so true.
Hey! all those secret places you want to see? 50 bucks and another 10 levels please...
(I'm not complaining, I love all this company pumps out, but just don't have unrealistic expectations...)

You're right about warlocks loving spirit now. However, my spreadsheet says that this is the best and second best in slot MH for the two popular raiding specs (53/0/18 and 0/41/30), so its fair to say that warlocks will still covet the item despite the lack of spirit.

13 bosses from Kel'Thuzad and The Turning Tide to getting this from Yogg-Saron and all you get is 30 more spellpower.
Soulscribe is seriously yawn, considering Razorscale in 25 drops a 550 mace (Guiding Star) when put in comparison against other caster weapons for different classes. Putting the same value on an end boss weapon compared to a second boss weapon is poor form on Blizzard's behalf.
At least the Naxx weapon progression was worth looking forward to starting at 409 to 461 and then to 520.
Now we start at 520 and go to 550, how lackluster.
