Video teases iPhone WoW client

I can honestly say that I would love to have WoW available on the go, for things ranging from checking my mail to browsing the auction house to leveling a death knight on long car trips. The iPhone seems like a great platform for something like that -- a pared-down but fully-functional WoW client.
And now we might be a little closer to that becoming a reality. Our sister site, Massively, just picked up a hot tip from Youtube, where someone has posted a video of a rumored Vollee port of World of Warcraft for the iPhone.
And it looks pretty darn cool, fake or not.
We've got the video and impressions after the jump.
And there you have it. My first reaction is to flail my arms around and scream "WAKE UP SHEEPLE" when asked about its authenticity, but there are factors that point to its possibile validity. The first is that Vollee has already been contracted to port Second Life to the iPhone; the second is that Vollee had previously announced a partnership with Activision; the third is that Vollee had also indicated that they'd be working on the iPhone.
So, it's possible. I can't verify its authenticity 100% either way -- if it's fake, it's a pretty cool fake, though. It wouldn't be very good for raiding, given the slight lag and the framerate, but for everyday activities and upkeep it'd be a very pleasant distraction and a competent piece of Azeroth for when you're on the move.
We're contacting Blizzard and Vollee to see if they have anything to say on the matter.
Thanks for the heads-up, Krystalle!

I'm speechless...
If this is in fact real then my decision to drop the iPhone for a BlackBerry (or the Pre) when my contract is up this summer may have just been reversed.

I hope it's real...

Even if it is real the whole time I was watching the video I was thinking how much better it would be on a G1.
Real keyboard so you might actually be able to fight something.
Scroll wheel for targeting.
Having this on an iphone is a complete waste.

I second Quickshiv, it would be a waste on the iphone. Get something like the G1 or another HTC phone with a full keyboard, now if they made an attached controller or you could use one of those fold up keyboards for PDAs.....hmm that might change things a bit

Part of the upcoming iPhone firmware update is the ability for developers to make peripherals(sp?) that plug into the dock. And the G1? Really? As soon as they fix the huge memory leaks in the core OS it could become a possibility, but given Blizzard's support for the Mac platform I doubt it.

Cowfodder, are you saying Blizzard doesn't support Macs? The company released every game it has ever made for the Mac, and at the EXACT same time as the PC version. In fact, they don't even bother with separate boxes. Blizzard is the most Mac-friendly game company I've ever known.
Now I do play on a PC currently, so perhaps you mean that their actual support isn't what it used to be. I cannot comment on that now, but I don't remember any serious Mac-only problems in the past. Nothing I've seen leads me to believe that the company doesn't care about Apple users.

Please let this be real.

This would be really neat if it is legit but one thing I find suspicious is that the guy has both alliance and horde toons on the same server which as we all know we cant have. So unless this vollee client pulls all characters from all servers that we have toons on, Im not too sure its the real deal.
Raps Apr 25th 2009 11:19AM
PvE server? I have both sides on mine.
Eight Apr 25th 2009 11:18AM
You can have Horde and Alliance on the same server as long as it's PvE.
Futue Apr 25th 2009 11:19AM
I'm pretty sure you can have Alliance and Horde characters on the same server if it's a 'normal' server.
Caelin Apr 25th 2009 4:38PM
You can have alliance and Horde toons on one server, just not on a PvP or RPPvP server.
sushigaski Apr 25th 2009 11:26AM
There is no problem having horde and alliance on the same server if it is a PVE server, it only matters with PVP servers.
Slyzer Apr 25th 2009 11:28AM
On Pve realms, you can in fact have both Horde and Alliance.
TJourney Apr 25th 2009 11:38AM
Has anybody mentioned that it's only PvP servers that you are restricted to one faction, and that on PvE servers you can have horde and alliance characters?
somebody should mention this.
Manatank Apr 25th 2009 11:46AM
Okay guys, I think if we try we can point out that PvE servers allow cross faction toons a few more times. Keep it going!
Cybeloras Apr 25th 2009 12:00PM
On PvE servers you can have toons of both factions.
Kvothe Apr 25th 2009 12:29PM
PvE realms can have characters from both factions.
Amidoinitrite?
AishaLove Apr 25th 2009 12:36PM
you can have characters of both factions on pve servers, the reason you can't have toons of both factions on pvp servers is for balance issues.
LandMineHare Apr 25th 2009 12:38PM
Another reason Blizzard needs to nix the PVP aspect of the game.
Aside from ruining classes in the name of "balance", it spawns tards like Mike.
