The state of the Horde and the Alliance

Now, it's also worth remembering that there's no black and white in Azeroth either. The Horde aren't evil for just being the Horde, neither are the Alliance all pure as newly fallen snow. Each faction has done its fair share of pure and evil acts depending on the actions of individual heroes and the motivations of their leaders.
But now we're post patch 3.1, it's time to rexamine the state of relations between the two factions. Times have changed quite drastically since we first entered Azeroth and the addition of The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King have only made things much more complicated. The Wrath Gate cinematic gave us some glimpse of how the two factions are getting on in the continually evolving lore of Azeroth. While the recent trailer for the Secrets of Ulduar offered an even more promising glimpse at the deterioration of that tenuous peace.
For the most part this is mutual, but the real culprit behind everything is King Varian Wynn. Yes, the human king hates the Orcs (and by extension the Horde) and, to be honest, who can blame him? Abducted, bespelled and sold into slavery as part of a grand plot by the dragoness Onyxia he (as the gladiator Lo'Gosh) found himself without his memories in Orgrimmar.
Now returned to his throne room in Stormwind, he is a changed man. Bitter and battleworn, his attitude only gets worse once the Alliance loses its greatest living legend Bolvar Fordragon during the battle of the Wrath Gate.
So last night, I finally got around to completing the Wrath Gate questline and witnessed for myself how much Varian is letting his hatred rule his head. He blames the Horde and Thrall personally for the death of Bolvar despite the fact that it was a renegade faction of the Forsaken under the orders of Grand Apothocary Putress which caused the massacre. For now, at least, he seems so blinded by hate that he is unable or unwilling to make that distinction:
"I've waited a long time for this, Thrall. For every time I was thrown into one of your damned arenas... for every time I killed a green-skinned aberration like you... I could only think of one thing. What our world could be without you and your twisted Horde..."At the same time, the Horde are not all innocence and light either. Thrall's right-hand orc Garrosh Hellscream is just as bad. While he doesn't so much hate humans, he does lust for power seeing himself as the next Warchief and believes Thrall's weakness is his willingness to entertain humans like Jaina Proudmore (who I'm sure Thrall has a crush on).
So with 3.1, we got our first proper look at how the Alliance and Horde are coping post-Wrath Gate and it's not pretty. Varian seems to be swallowed by grief and fury while Thrall is receptive to Jaina's suggestions simply because she has always been a mediator between the factions.
You'd think such a dangerous situation as the resurgence of the Old God Yogg-Saron might unite these enemies against a common foe. Perhaps in the past this could have been true but now, neither side is willing to be co-operative. The trailer, as well as setting up 3.1, also features a promising sub-plot focusing on how the the two sides are beginning to turn completely against each other. I think it's only a matter of time before Blizzard bring this whole mess to a head and Varian and Garrosh face off.
We've already seen from the trailer that this is part of an on-going storyline, but I suspect it's not just a justification for war. There's a promise of something larger than just one king's grudge and perhaps we will discover an answer in the next patch or expansion.

As someone for whom PVP is a chore, I would love if the Alliance/Horde relations changed so that I could group and work with members of the opposite faction. They don't have to on a Macro level, but if I could befriend and help specific individuals I would enjoy the game much more.

For everyone blaming orcs or humans or draenei or night elves or blood elves or trolls or Orgrim or Velen or Varian or Hogger for all of Azeroth's current ills, I refer you to http://www.wowwiki.com/Orc#Culture
"Orcs do not apologize for past actions, nor do they demand apologies from their enemies."
This is the correct attitude, though certainly not every orc subscribes to it.
At some point, people have to stop saying "well THEY started it!" and move on with their lives. Any other course of action cannot be resolved without the annihilation of one faction or the other.
I hate to have to make this next remark.
I really do.
I mean it, I'm really sorry for this.
But just look at Israel vs. Palestine. That's all I'm going to say.
Commence flaming.

if you want to know who is more inclined to shoot first just look at the airships....the alliance one has weapons that were clearly designed to shoot the Horde one out of the sky whereas the Horde ones main guns are facing down towards the scourge and secondary emergency guns on lowering platforms that seem to have been added as an after thought.

" It was so much more invigorating and satisfying hunting down and slaying those who fought back and the cries of the helpless dying nwhere they were found so much the sweeter. "
Ahem.
And I quote:
High Overlord Saurfang says: I drank of the same blood your father did, Garrosh. Mannoroth's cursed venom pumped through my veins as well. I drove my weapons into the bodies and minds of my enemies. And while Grom died a glorious death - freeing us all from the blood curse - he could not wipe away the terrible memory of our past. His act could not erase the horrors we committed.
High Overlord Saurfang says: The winter after the curse was lifted, hundreds of veteran orcs like me were lost to despair. Our minds were finally free, yes... Free to relive all of the unthinkable acts that we had performed under the Legion's influence.
High Overlord Saurfang says: I think it was the sounds of the draenei children that unnerved most of them... You never forget... Have you ever been to Jaggedswine Farm? When the swine are of age for the slaughter... It's that sound. The sound of the swine being killed... It resonates the loudest. Those are hard times for us older veterans.

@Jonathan
Actully that is wrong.
The Draenei used to be ereder (in fact, they were all Eredar) then Sargeras came and "converted" most of the Eredar into *shock* evil.
The ones who fled from Sargeras were named Draenei, they settled on Draenor (outland prior to being torn to pieces) and lived neutral with the orcs who already lived there.
Sargeras sent one of his agents, Kil'jaeden, to spy on the Draenei .
Kil'jaeden was a smart guy and he chose to corrupt the orcs and pack em on the Draenei, thus killing the Draenei and gaining an army.
Then the Draenei flee, again, and crash into Azeroth after some time.
While this is all happening the orcs invade Azeroth and the story of Warcraft 2 plays out.
Sorry if i said anything wrong, its 8 in the morning and i haven't had any sleep.

I have seen some arguments saying that the leaders of the horde are evil.
this however is not the case.
it is understandable that people say kael thas without hesitation.
but kael joined forces with the naga and illidan after abandoning the alliance, kidnapped muru and began working with demons, thats when lor themar was like "right, he is clearly evil, hey thrall can we join your guild to help you stop him and help ensure our mutual survivability and work together with the horde for peace?" and thrall was like "sure"
and you can say that sylvannas is evil i suppose due to the RAS (which i am very interested to see how it will turn out)
i know people may argue saying that she was betrayed by varimathras and putress but it was her who founded the RAS in the first place for that purpose.
so in conclusion
Orc's = not evil (since freeing themselves of demonic corruption)
Tauren = have never been evil
Troll's = darkspear not evil (only tribe in the horde)
forsaken = tough to say, RAS suggests they are
blood elves = not evil anymore, the highborne and kael thas are gone
Horde not evil :)
humans = not evil, although they did found the cult of the dammed
dwarves = not evil, iron dwarves in northrend though
night elves = not evil and never have been, although there was the highborne
drenai = not evil, but what do you think the demons were in the first place
gnomes = not evil (except from the dreaded and much feared leper gnomes)
alliance not evil,
each faction has there own little dark stories that the people who play them choose to ignore when bashing the apposing faction
So none of the faction leaders are even slightly evil but are in fact some of the greatest and good leaders there race has ever seen, especially in the case of thrall and velan who have led their people form evil to peace
well sylvannas may be evil, as i said i am very curious to see how blizz are gonna deal with her and the RAS in the near future hopefully, i have my theories as does everyone else
and one more little point, only the forsaken know the true meaning of the RAS, the other members of the horde beleive it to be a society looking for a cure to the scourge plague.
and the i dont beleive the quests in tarren mill that the horde recieve that i read about in other threads would exactly be inffluential to the lore of warcraft, i beleive they were intended as forsaken quests but anyone may do them horde side
I play alliance and horde, i and a lore whore, i am not biased but i will say i do enjoy the lore of the horde much more than the alliance, much more depth, although the n elf lore is on par ;)
fair dues to anyone who could be bothered to read all this and thank you for your time, feel free to reply,
my regards :)
