Throw your own egg hunt with Noblegarden Eggs
I've been looking at the Noblegarden items for awhile now, since they first showed up on the PTR. For some reason, it never hit me until I saw it on live realms how cool one item in particular actually is. For five chocolates you can buy your own Noblegarden Egg, which allows you to lay a Brightly Colored Egg. Yes, that's five eggs for one egg of your own, which is a pretty horrible exchange rate.
What's so cool about it? They're the exact same eggs you've been picking up that whole time, except that you can set them out. You can loot them right away for an added chance of whatever loot may be in them, but I'm not sure why you'd do that, except for possibly completing Dressed for the Occasion/Sunday's Finest. What makes it better is that other people can loot them.
What makes that so great? If you can get an organized crew (and their alts) together, you can set up your own Noblegarden Hunt for your guild or your friends and family. Laying an egg has a 1 hour cooldown, so each of you will only be able to set out one egg each, but with a sizable group that might not be too terrible. A brief hunt, but you can make it exciting! Feralas, perhaps? Icecrown? The interior of a cleared Ulduar? Just take it far, far away from busy cities or hubs. You don't want to lay an egg out in the Stormwind Trade District. Joe McMullet will loot that thing in a flash, and that's no good.
I don't know for sure how long the eggs stick around, but it seems a fairly long time. I managed to set one up in Darnassus and it was there for at least 45 minutes before a nude level 1 Druidess named Sxxybabby ground it to dust beneath her haphazardly-thrusting hips of feral fury. Hence my suggestion that you take your hunt away from major cities. Very far away.
I'll be honest here, though. The one hour cooldown on these is pretty lame and sort of limits the size of what you can coordinate. I'd love for Blizzard to hotfix the eggs to have no cooldown, or a much shorter cooldown. Being able to throw our own egg hunts (in an easier way than rotating alts to get 10 eggs down) would add a lot of extra flavor this this event, rather than it just being an egg (and achievement) grind for a day then forgotten forever. Drop the cooldown, and expand upon the concept for future holidays. This could be good stuff.

I'm sorry but after doing this event for most of the day, having eggs stolen under you, waiting and waiting and waiting for the right drop... who in their right mind would want to form a FUN easter egg hunt with friends and guildies o.0 That sounds completely ludicrous to me. Am I alone?
Lepertum Apr 26th 2009 8:17PM
You are not alone, after doing all this stuff today, running around a massive dungeon looking for an egg is the last thing that I wanna do. if my gm would ever decide to do this I'd simply /gquit.
Sean Riley Apr 26th 2009 8:20PM
But if you hold it in any non-starter zone, there'd be a lot less stealing of eggs going on because fewer people there would be looking for them.
Treason of Farstriders Apr 26th 2009 8:30PM
Stolen please.
If you don't camp them, you will get 3-4 times as many eggs. You're doing it wrong if you're in one place and not running around like a prediabetic lagomorph.

It also kind of bugs me that Easter is over. I know technically this isn't Easter, but yeah it kind of is. I love this holiday, but why did they wait until after Easter?

Running around doesn't stop the douches from being douches now does it?

Not to mention that it was so packed on my server that every spot had a camper. The only sensible thing to do at this time of day is wait for someone to leave and take their spot.

I don't know why it would take you so long unless you are seriously not searching efficiently.
I collected around 4 eggs per minute very easily. Simply find a good location in a busy town where around 3-5 eggs spawn in close proximity. Then camp. An egg should spawn in front of you roughly every 5-10 seconds. Even with other people running by and ninjaing an egg from you, 4 eggs per minute is a very reasonable expectation.

I actually got more than that. But the drop rate on the pants is killing me.

Wenner, you've just been banned. You've posted nothing but 'firsts' since you started commenting here. Find somewhere else to do that.

blocking IPs does nothing, he'll have a new one in a few days anyways

Well... that's a first :)

Best post by Alex to date! :-)

I'm pretty sure the 1hr cooldown is designed to try and limit abuse for the goodies inside. I'd suggest dramatically lowering the likelihood of finding good stuff in the planted eggs, and eliminate the cooldown altogether.
Azzarrea Apr 26th 2009 9:02PM
These items only last for 3 days, what I'd like to see is similar to the pony kegg from Brewfest, a permanent year round say 5-10 min cooldown egg that you can hide. And make it when you loot it not to have items from this event, but say a food like the"Aged Yoke" that you can sometimes get from the Oracle Cracked Eggs. That would make this item more enjoyable and stop people from abusing it for the event.
percinho Apr 27th 2009 5:05AM
This is exactly the reason for the cooldown, otherwsie you could keep planting your own eggs and looting them for the chocolates, meaning you'd be done with Noblegarden within about an hour.
What they should do is make it so you don't get the chocolates form your own eggs, and then they can remove the cooldown. Make it a 'useless' token so that people can set their own hunt up and reward the person who claims the most tokens.

I don't get where the exploits come into it?
You spend 5 eggs to gain one egg? Your basically burning 4 eggs.
How can 1 egg be used to get the achievement within an hour? I don't think having +1 egg for every 5 immediately means things are particularly easy mode all of a sudden?(realistically it's +1 opening of an egg for -4 eggs)
Have i read it wrong, does this item have more than one charge as well as a 1 hour cooldown? The only exploit i can see is if a main character found he prematurely got all of the achievement items via drops from finding the eggs himself in the last 10 or so eggs he picked up when farming for the full potential 475 or so eggs.
Then due to the unexpected eggs the main has left over and nothing to buy all of a sudden he buys up all the ones he can lay manually and dumps them down in some corner where an alt could pick it up.
1hr cooldown fixes that scenario and tbh it's the only problem that i can see that could come of removing the cooldown. It's essentially there to stop people who finish the looting achievements unexpectedly from trading in there remaining eggs and trying to use them to give others an easy ride(as if it were hard anyway) otherwise it's a waste of chocolate.

Once again, Blizzard gets an Epic Fail in my book. They 65 yard radius that these blasted lil boogers spawn in are super-overcamped and its really taking all of the fun out of the event. Perhaps one of the Devs should try asking their kids to help them with these event designs, as they obviously have NO CLUE what the heck they are doing as of now. They seem to be all about ruining each of these events by constricting them so badly they lose all of the fun. Thank god Im not in it for the stupid mount attached the the big holiday achievement. But I better get my Horsemans mount... oh yes, I had better. We'll leave it at that. Epic Fail Blizz.... again.
Zuggins Apr 26th 2009 9:47PM
Amen, Shady! Definitely an Epic Fail on Blizz's part with this "holiday special". Why the level 5 towns anyway? Why not everywhere?? The spawn rate continues to blow, unless you're camped, and then you have to hope no one ninja's your spot. Absolutely no fun at all.
