Patch 3.1.1a coming during maintenance
Patch 3.1.1a, which we previously covered last week, will be coming during tomorrow's extended maintenance. This is according to a small update Crygil gave this evening. While we don't have the full patch notes yet, Patch 3.1.1a will just correct small issues that cannot be hot-fixed into the game. Notably, the tooltip to the Paladin's Exorcism ability will be updated to reflect that it cannot be used on players.
Realms will be down from 3:00 a.m. PDT / 6:00 a.m. EDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT / 2:00 p.m. EDT. We'll let you know when they're up, and if there will be any additional extended maintenance.

awesome... but they should just say its gonna be til 1pm now, cause we all know its gonna be
Amethyst Apr 27th 2009 10:58PM
So they're fixing the bugs by patching the patch which was meant to fix the bugs in the first place? *confused*
Tumleren Apr 28th 2009 5:53AM
No, they're fixing a tooltip.

All I say is they better re-fix the issue with talent points vanishing completely. There's threads and threads on the forums related to the issue but it is more then just a display issue and nothing done client side seems to help most people.
Not gonna get into it here for those that don't know what I'm referring to, check the two following threads for multiple examples of what's going on:

Yeah, I hear that it's being caused by clam's ability to stack.

If you're having that problem just contact a GM and they'll reset it for you. I was having problems not only with missing talent points, but I couldn't even put points into another tree. Well it seemed that way, but the points sort of did affect my character even though it says they weren't put in. After the reset I haven't had an issue since. It's worth a shot anyway.

Yay, another patch that's going to last until 2PM because they're never going to own up and admit that patches take longer than the original estimate someone made in 2004!
I work nights, I stay home during the day. I'd appreciate a little bit of honesty instead of false hope so I can just decide to do something else all day instead of think that I can actually play... because I keep thinking "this will be the patch they finally actually get it going at 11AM or better" and I end up disappointed every single time.

As a sr. developer I can attest to the fact that a lot of times patches take longer than usual due to unexpected issues. Keep in mind that Bliz has a lot of servers they need to push the patch to, and while they may all run on identical hardware, there are just some things that are out of human control.
So many times have I pushed a patch or update to our production servers only to see an issue crop up that didn't exist on our test servers. "Its the same hardware/software, why is it doing that? It worked fine on our ptr... err test servers"

Couldn't agree more, I think the last time we had a huge delay on maintenance I found myself without a clue of what i was gonna do and ended up downloading a trial for warhammer...sigh, glad I don't work nights sometimes more then others.

Something needs to be done with Exorcism. It's found a nice place in my rotation, but when the horde gank come... Nothing. Make it a Dot and call it a day. On a side note. Please fix the damn portal in VH. Blizz, you know what !'m talking about.

This Exorcism fix is weird, how many other classes have had one of their best abilities taken away in pvp?
Zuckerdachs Apr 28th 2009 1:28AM
Frustrating as it might be for those Paladins amongst you, I would gently suggest that it is a very fair fix. Every class has an advantage over another in PvP; it is unfair, then, to also have an advantage over an entire race. Dominating a player race is not the same thing as dominating a class. One does not learn to play a race (in this case, an Undead) - one learns to play a hunter, or a mage, or a druid.

Hey ... you're the metalhead, dragon t-shirt-wearing noobs who just HAD to be zombies. ROCK ON, D00d ... SKULLS!!!!
Our undead-slaying abilities should work on players.
Mr. Yetti Apr 28th 2009 2:16AM
@zucker
exorcism didn't get extra crit against the PC Undead - check your tooltips. They're classed as Humanoid. always have been (it's why we couldnt pop the spell on em before). this was never about extra crit against the forsaken, its about burst - guaranteed.
atrahasis Apr 29th 2009 8:15PM
@Zuckerdachs
You seem to be under the assumption that exorcism only works against "undead", and that it was dominating the "undead" (forsaken) players. This simply is not the case. It was previously only usable against undead targets in pve, but recent changes have made it so that it can hit any target. This latest change means that it no longer works against players. (again.)
I think it was the vanilla wow beta that "undead" players were classified as undead. Result: a race pwned by paladins, unfearable (except by paladins), etc. This is why they were turned into "forsaken" in the first place.
Mike Apr 28th 2009 2:49AM
I think there was a very brief spell way back in beta when Forsaken were actually "undead" for exorcism/pally fear... that lasted about as long as this iteration (all players burstable with exorcism) and the pally fear effectiveness against demony guises of players or their pets. History always repeats for those who do not learn from it, EY BLIZZ ;-)
I just hate that they need to put a patch maintenance in teh middle of prime egg farming time :-)

Patch 3.1.1a... a patch to fix the bugs which were in the patch to fix the bugs...
Since 3.0 this has been like an infinite set of mirror reflections.
Please fix it this time...

I am just hoping that I don't have to redistribute talent points on all my toons again. Getting old now!
Kylenne Apr 28th 2009 1:26AM
I just hope they fix the dual spec talent issue with shammies, it's getting kind of irritating having to redistribute points every time I switch to resto. :\
jbaender Apr 28th 2009 9:29AM
The sad thing is it's not just shammy's...maybe some classes more often but the talent issue is effecting all players of all classes and levels in one way or another.
I'm in favor of having to redistribute all my talent points again if it means they will stop disappearing and preventing me from progressing in the tree.
