Val'anyr is a Paladin weapon

Ferarro compares Val'anyr to other best-in-slot competitors, from the Turning Tide from Kel'thuzad to the new Ulduar weapons. Given that the proc seems to favor humongous heals, it seems tailor made for Holy Paladins, masters of nuke healing. The effect also seems to proc pretty often according to Ferraro, who reveals, "for what it's worth, when I saw it in action a while ago it was proccing 100% of the time". Not only that, but she points out that the lack of Spirit makes it sub-par for Priests; the lack of MP5 makes it less than attractive for Shamans; and notes that Druids aren't exactly in the market for Crit Rating, which Val'anyr has. It's a rather interesting read, and something I'll probably send to our GM for some, um, consideration...

TBH, and I know I'm QQing, but it's kinda sucky that something that seemed to be possible for ALL healers is so geared towards pallies. It's too bad this wasn't something where you could get different versions for each class...
Lyraat Apr 28th 2009 4:19PM
Who says there aren't other versions? I might have missed a blue post or two, but I have yet to hear definitely from GC and Co. that the stats shown are the only stats that will be on it. Considering the disparity in stat prioritization between healing classes, I find it difficult to believe that Val'anyr won't have different versions. I also find it difficult to believe Blizzard would say a legendary is for all healers then design it to be awesome for one class and mediocre to poor for all the other classes.

I wish people wouldn't write crap like this.
It might be nice for pallies. Might end up better for them.
But honestly, I'd rather have a class like a druid, priest or a shammie get it.
The proc, would work MUCH better on a class that can hit multiple targets in that 15 seconds.
A priest might hit the whole raid with PoHs in that time, causing 1500 shields on everyone.
A druid might have hots rolling a quite a few people, and wild growthing like crazy.
How many chain heals can a shammie pull out in 15 seconds.
It doesn't say it is dependent on crit like divine aegis.
If anything pallies are the WEAKEST class to get this weapon, not hte best.

@Lyraat
Different versions? Think back to Warglaves, were there different versions of those? Nope.
Eisengel Apr 28th 2009 6:23PM
Favors nuke heals? Spellpower, haste, crit?
Sounds like a Disc Priest weapon to me. :^)
Keep in mind that the Titansteel Guardian has no Int or Spirit on it, and it is still one of the best Priest healing and DPSing weapons in game. Absence of Spirit doesn't mean it isn't a Priest weapon.

Different versions? Think back to Atiesh, were there different versions of that? Yep.

Ferarro's post is interesting, but she doesn't acknowledge discipline priests until the last paragraph, and then confuses them with holy and assumes they need spirit...nuff said really. The question of how the proc shield interacts with Disc divine aegis or bubbles is needed to compare the 2, info no-one has presently.
Rawtashk Apr 28th 2009 7:40PM
To all the people QQing about it being "just a pally weapon" and how it's not fair....you're right...I mean, sunwell didn't have a hunter bow or anything, right?
Badman Apr 28th 2009 7:55PM
Like a few people posted before me, why does everyone forget about Disc Priests?.... Yes we are new to have in raids but really... This works perfect for a Disc Priest and we have ZERO need for spirit. Paladins need to learn that they will have to go against Disc Priests for Trinkets, and most Weapons because we need the same stats that you do.
Zul Apr 28th 2009 8:08PM
It does kinda suck. It is funny actually it matches paladins gear perfectly it would be sore thumb on a druid or shaman. It's proc is useless in most cases to all but pallys and disc priests. So I suppose raid healers are still waiting for their legendary...

Now "teehee" your way through blog posts, use a profile photo of a woman who is more attractive than you are, make it a point to routinely mention you're female...and you'll be well on your way to a successful WoW blog, no matter how abysmal your writing or reasoning may be.

In our guild we are still deciding, although its looking likely that its going to a paladin. As a tree, i stepped down, after realising that the DKP it would require would outweight the benefits, as cool as it is.
seanfury Apr 28th 2009 4:06PM
IMO, it should change it's stats when equipped by each of the different classes, to make it fair.
Kassu Apr 28th 2009 4:12PM
Atiesh ahoy.
Some dev said that it's actually better than we all think, even for trees.
andy Apr 28th 2009 5:29PM
one thing i think the legd's are gunna be for roles they want to encorage
shortage of healers give them an orange to get ppl to go there.
the is no shortage of mages (i know i play one) therefore i doupt we will get it.
anyway i don't think frosty will drop, i recon ashbringer will
DUH DUH DUUUUUUUUH
bob Apr 28th 2009 6:06PM
@ andy
actually, thats not why they chose the healer mace, tho it may be a supplemental reason.
GC stated some time back that they have a rotating "list" of roles/classes as far as legendaries go. For instance, rogues and fury warrs just had glaives last xpac and hunters had thoridal. therefore these roles are towards the bottom of the list.
Atiesh has dps caster variants, so dps casters are prob somewhere in the middle of the list.
While thuderfury was a "dps" weapon, you'd see lots of tanks using it for the threat.
I'd put money on seeing a tank legendary in the 3.2 raid. DK's and Paladins are almost garunteed to get either ashbringer or some kind of redeemed frostmourne in 3.3/icecrown.
stfu[pallies Apr 28th 2009 4:08PM
OR MAYBE THERE ARE FOUR DIFFERENT VERSIONS?
Mike Apr 28th 2009 4:12PM
Yeah, the proc goes hand in hand with the massive heals Paladins are known for.
