Addon Spotlight: DagAssist
Addon Spotlight takes a look at the little bits of Lua and XML that make our interfaces special. From bar mods to unit frames and beyond, if it goes in your Addons folder, we'll cover it here.
I love it when people send in tips for cool addons. There was a time when I could subscribe to the RSS feed for an addon site and check out each new mod as it came out, but the scene is too big now; I'd be at it all day. Today we'll look at DagAssist, which was submitted by Rodney earlier this afternoon.
DagAssist puts a single, quite attractive button on your minimap that, when clicked, opens a pop-up menu containing things like:
- Teleports and portals, for mages
- Summons for warlocks
- Profession skills
- Hearthstone
You can see what it looks like for my warlock at right.
DA is sort of like a micro version of AutoBar, which I've been using for a long time on all my characters. It's missing a lot of AB's functionality - it doesn't give you access to quest items, nor food and other consumables, and it's not configurable. But it also takes up much less space, and it's a good 80% solution for me, in that it covers probably 80% of my AutoBar clicks, in less than 5% of the screen space. It also doesn't have AB's current nasty habit of leaving pop-open menus stuck open at awkward times.
If you're interested in something that gives you easy access to some of your more rarely-used skills, but you don't want to invest the screen real estate in something like AutoBar or Necrosis, give DagAssist a try. It's already found a place in my UI.

Addons are what we do on Addon Spotlight. Check out a lighter auction mod that I'm enjoying as an alternative to Auctioneer. See what the dailies are on your realm -- the more people use this mod, the better! And remember, Addon Spotlight is fueled by viewers like you, so if you have a mod you think we should take a look at, drop us a line. Filed under: Add-Ons, AddOn Spotlight, Classes

I've been using this little gem for quite some time now on my mage and I just love it. I don't need to take up valuable hotkey buttons on the action bars for the various teleports & portals. It also has your primary and secondary professions available as well and works for not just mages or warlocks, but for all your toons. All my toons now have their primary and secondary professions available at the click of a button. The minimap button is also easily moved, so if you want it at the bottom of your screen instead of next to the minimap, you can do that.

I'm thinking since Autobar is customizable, a person could disable all the buttons available via Dagassist, and use both addons. Autobar would be stripped to the essentials that you need a hotkey for, such as potions, and Dagassist could handle the non-essentials such as portals and professions. Sounds like a winning team.

I love DagAssist. After a nasty incident and a reinstall, I forgot about it, so thanks for reminding me!
