The craziest costume I've seen at BlizzCon so far was probably that rideable turtle we saw last year (you can check it out, along with all of the other wild costumes from Blizzard's big show, in the gallery below). But these little dohickies embedded in a Tauren or Draenei costume might actually take the cake. They're called "digitigrade leg extensions" (so named after digitigrades, or animals like horses that step on their toes), and were made by a sculptor in Seattle who's done work for Wizards of the Coast before. They are, as the video says, for "costumers, performers, and actors everywhere."
No idea what the cost is (she offers the extensions on her website, but we're not sure if it's a rent/buy/commission type of thing), but come on: can you really wear that Tauren costume around BlizzCon now without having these to leave hoofprints in? We didn't think so. See you there.
I think they either used a very cheaply made one or just had Torgo try to walk like like. Either way it just made him look silly. Which the Master should not approve.
I remember reading somewhere that the actor playing Torgo actually created the appliances, and that they were quite painful to wear after a while (which might explain why he never really did get the hang of walking while wearing them).
Also, he commited suicide shotly after the movie's release. Sad.
Not exactly. If you look at the hooved models, you’ll notice their shins are actually shortened and twisted to be just as long as the upper part of the leg. These boots add length to the lower part of the leg, thus making it longer looking than the top half and out of proportion to the torso. Granted, you can’t twist someone’s lower leg into the shape of a draenei’s or tauren’s but that still doesn’t mean I’m ready to look at this thing and think it looks amazing.

Actually for about $400 you can buy "Bionic Boots," I've seen them in action at Tahoe, Nevada side... they look like this, but are springloaded.
Demonstration guy was going at about 3x sprinting speed without even breathing hard, and could jump about 10 feet in the air.

Looks expensive... of course any customized thing is.

I'm pretty sure they tried something like this in
MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE
Ended up just making Torgo's knees all swollen.

I'm left wondering how comfortable and easy they would even be to walk in. I'm sure someone will go all out and get them, though.
Artaois Apr 29th 2009 3:26PM
According to the sculptor, she can walk for about 5 hours in them, and it takes about 15 min. to learn to walk in them.

"Cost
The core leg extensions are between $750 - $780 plus tax.
The spring loaded hooves are $200 extra.
We have a wonderful costumer who can made the additional fur costume to order."
That's actually a pretty good deal, considering the engineering that went into those.
Luisette Apr 29th 2009 3:32PM
That's absolutely stunning. I really envy those who have the technological knowhow to make things like that.
Super Marxio Apr 29th 2009 3:34PM
Cats are digitigrade. Horses, and presumably Draenei, are
unguligrade.

Don't forget every warlocks favorite female demon, it wouldn't be a Blizzcon without a someone dressed like a Succubus.
PS-It wasn't mentioned but I do see a pics of it so I only get half a point

I dunno they kind of make the persons legs look incredibly huge.
rai Apr 29th 2009 3:43PM
they are supposed to be. the hooven races are taller in no small part because of the legs. the extension takes place where it should, at the ankle.
