European extended weekly maintenance: 29th April 2009
Good morrow, my European companions, it's Wednesday which means only one thing. Yes it's maintenance time once more.This week we're getting yet another patch: 3.1.1a and I'm seriously hoping this will be the end of all of the patch 3.1 chaos. That said, we here in European haven't had such a bad time of it thanks to the American guinea pigs over the pond.
As you've probably predicted by now we're getting downtime until 11am CEST this morning. Hopefully this latest patch will make it all better, eh?
In the meantime, I suggest you make some tea, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and install the patch. You can, of course, also check our posts from yesterday which have fun suggestions of things to do during the downtime.

Cup of assam and an omlette for me. Were there any problems with the patch stateside yesterday? And there don't seem to be any patch notes after I've installed. Are they just not telling us?

No patch notes. =)

Thanks Adam, I can only assume that nothing at all has changed then. Nothing to see here, carry on now.
And I hope you're up at this unearthly hour because you're raiding/questing/fishing. It'd suck to be up all night just to monitor comments!

@rakah
So just to be clear, this is a post to tell us that it's Wednesday and it's a patch day.
Yeah, terrific job!
Lesley Smith Apr 29th 2009 4:24AM
@rakah Much appreciated.
I know these Wednesday patches are tiny but you guys want more EU posts so you're getting them.
I like to think not everyone is hunched over their PCs at 8am in the morning like me and appreciates a round up they can check from work.

A question to the European players out there, please
I just landed here at Aviano AB, Italy for a two year tour in the USAF. Currently putting up with the satellite internet latency (600-1000ms) is killing me playing on my stateside server.
Does anyone know if it would be much improved if I, say, transferred to an east coast server, or even if I just chucked the money down and got a European account?
Thanks in advance if anyone has a suggestion!
Kemikalkadet Apr 29th 2009 5:20AM
Well with satellite net you're going to have an obscene amount of latency whatever server you connect to, and i doubt you'd see any difference at all between east/west coast US servers. Playing a european server will cut the lag down a little, maybe a couple hundred ms latency, but you'll still have the 1k ms+ from the satellite connection.

Why the satellite connection?
I used to play on a US server from europe as well, but I used a cable connection through a local ISP. Never had any troubles with lag...

Problem is, servers went kapoof at 0300, not 0500. At least the servers I play on.
