Tracking dead bosses in the instance you step into
As you will have noticed by now if you've entered an instance in progress since patch 3.1, Blizzard's new binding notification system is in effect. Whenever you join an instance in which bosses have already been killed, you get a warning that staying in there will bind you to that instance -- thus hopefully preventing you from accidentally sticking to an instance you don't like. However, as a few players have noted, there's still some functionality missing there. While the notification will tell you that bosses have been killed, it won't yet tell you which ones, so a malicious or confused guild could invite you a Naxx in which only one wing has been downed, when really all they've got left is Sapphiron and KT (or no bosses at all, if they really wanted to ruin your week). Fortunately, Zarhym agrees, and says that discussion about adding a little bit to the notification is incoming. It seems a little bit weird to just have a list of killed bosses on your screen when you first walk into the instance, but maybe they could add some sort of "boss tracker" to the instance maps, where you could see at a glance what was going on in any instance you join.
As a few other people say in the thread, most of you may never have seen this notification pop up -- if you only join instances where nothing is killed yet, you'll never see it. But for those of us who take boss kills where we can get them (in PuGs and guild runs where an opening appears), it's a nice feature to have.
Thanks, Medros!

It'd be nice

Personally, I think the popup should appear as you try to get into the instance, rather than once you're inside. They already can block your entrance based on combat within the instance. Make so you can't enter until you agree to be saved to the instance...

That would make warlock summons inside instances impossible again. Do we really want to go back to those days?
Docseuzz Apr 29th 2009 2:37PM
only on instances where there's already a raid ID, and why not add that as a pre-summon popup?
rosencratz Apr 29th 2009 3:14PM
@ JTD - Why would it make summons impossible exactly?
Though i don't see why it matters whether your inside or not, your still going to want a lo-down on what's left to kill before you accept and as it stands you have a better chance of finding out before accepting when your inside rather than out at the moment.

I think that they could simply add a line to the pop up that says
"x/x bosses killed"
If the leader says yes, Spider wing is the only one finished, but that pop up says
13/15 bosses killed
then you know the guy lied.

I'd like for them to add this functionality, and especially instance maps, to older BC and Vanilla instances.

Naxx already sort of has this with the eyes glowing on the ramps up to the ice lair after a wing has been downed though if all but the last boss has been downed, it won't glow. Still...its a simple precaution to check for entire wings when people get in. I think if they made little emblems around these eyes for each of the bosses that would glow when downed, that'd be the best approach.

Thats the first thing I thought of when reading this article. While difficult to add to an existing dungeon however, that kind of functionality on the wonderful new dungeon maps would fit right now.
rosencratz Apr 29th 2009 3:20PM
That's a fine suggestion Ryael but what if your summoned in by a lock(The main crux of the problem) you might not be able to get at the entrance ramps to such things.

i like this function. what's annoying is that in the middle of your first boss fight of a new raid it warns you that you're about to be saved. i mean really, is in the heat of battle when you're watching your rotations or grabbing that one add that got away, or trying to line up your healing circle when you need to be told this?
rosencratz Apr 29th 2009 3:15PM
Does that happen?
So far when i've been present at the start of a raid i've had no prompt at all.
Yeng Apr 29th 2009 2:52PM
Has anyone actually been tricked into going into a raid that had more bosses down than they were told? I personally have never seen this and can't imagine anyone would bother lying about that as you can tell when you go in and run around anyways. And at which point most people would leave and you'd be back to where you started.

People ninja in PUG raids, even though the obvious result is that they'd get reamed on the forums and have more trouble PUGing in the future. Same goes for people lying about the number of bosses and hoping that the people they trick will hang around anyway, because one boss is better than nothing and you're already saved.
Yeng Apr 29th 2009 3:15PM
Has this ever happened to you or are you just speculating on what 'could happen' if someone was nefarious enough?
rosencratz Apr 29th 2009 3:17PM
Yes it's happened.
The Blue's were responding directly to complaints.
The timer on the acceptance pop-up is not long enough for you to explore all of naxx or ulduar or a raid to find out which bosses are up or down, especially depending on what part of the dungeon your summoned to.
Iwanttobeasleep Apr 29th 2009 3:05PM
Showing where the bosses are in instance maps would be so awesome for old world instances. And I think that's a fine solution for Wrath, although the straightforward nature of the instances and raids makes knowing where the bosses less useful as a side-effect.

"so a malicious or confused guild could invite you a Naxx in which only one wing has been downed, when really all they've got left is Sapphiron and KT"
Wait...would that be so bad?

Or, with phasing being a reality now, use it to save us on a per-boss basis rather than on an instance wide basis. If you are saved to that boss, you don't see him. If not, you do. Simple concept, probably a royal pain to code...
BioHazard Apr 29th 2009 6:40PM
Saved per-boss with phasing? I can see it now:
Guy1: So, um, are we going to kill Patchwerk?
Guy2: We already did that yesterday, we're at Gluth now. Get over here!
Guy1: I wasn't here yesterday so Patchwerk is in the way!
Guy2: WTF Noob? We already killed Patch. Get over here!
Patchwerk yells: PATCHWERK WANT TO PLAY!
That sounds like a PuG nightmare, or even just a disorganized guild nightmare. :S
