Breakfast Topic: If you could be a real GM what would you do?
Gamesmasters have been in WoW news a lot recently. We've had reports that a GM mistakenly sent Martin's Fury out to a player leading to pwnage in Ulduar. For the last twenty four hours, my inbox and those of the rest of the team seem to be full of screenshots showing a weird new bug where player characters suddenly become GMs, if only cosmetically (they get the little Blizzard logo next to their names, but none of the power).Since I started playing back in 2006, I've been fascinated by the Blues. Players speak their names with reverence. They exist unseen throughout Azeroth and have amazing abilities. Like many other players, I've opened tickets and engaged them in-game. I've even met a few in real life as well at the Darkmoon Faire and last year's WWI.
Now I know the life of a GM is not all roses, that their powers are kept in check by rules and regulations, but if you had the chance to be a real GM for five minutes, what would you do? Personally I'd go hang out on GM Island or walk into the hardest instance and smote everything before me. So come on, readers, if you had the chance and the power, what would you do?

You probably had their attention until you used "elite."
So they can understand the last part: l33t.

I'd ... do my job, respond to tickets, help aleviate situations, and moderate trade channel like nobody's buisness

Very first thing I would do is make sure that full T6 tanking gear gets mailed to my warrior along with the Bulwark and the main hand glaive.
Second thing I would do is spawn a Doomwalker in each city and watch the hillarity ensue.
Final thing I would of these 3 options would be my actual job.
Best thing I remember from interacting with a GM: Shade of Aran bugged in Kara one week, and we couldnt get him down the final 5% no matter what. We were wiping b/c people were running oom trying to make the last 5% disapear. I opened a ticket, told the GM what was going on and that I really wanted that tanking ring to drop so I could dump my last blue and the chanter with us was praying hardcore for the recipe, and after about 2 minutes the GM finally told us to just engage Shade. Sure enough, Shade bugged again, and a GM in his blue robes showed up in the middle of the room, yelled something funny/iconic, and took his staff and slammed it into the floor (ala Gandalf in the LOTR movites) and Shade instantly drops dead.
We /cheer at the GM, and I start to distribute loot. Ring, chanting recipe, and the caster off hand dropped (our healer needed the off hand also). The GM /winks at me, waves and disapears.

I would take control of a faction leader or boss, like Fordring or Rhonin, and roleplay something epic, bringing elites in cities, fighting, giving goldy buffs, etc.

Do some much needed name policy violation policing on a couple of RP servers. Oh yes, and moderate the trade channel a bit :p

^^ Most definitely THIS!
I'm on an RP server and was online the other night and some lvl 18 rogue started spamming general with "Looking to join a guild!" - he didn't stop. Every minute or so, there was another one.
His name?
Ibeasstoyou
Yeah, he wound up getting a ticket created. Someone like "Thunderthighs" for a Tauren or "Meanandgreen" for an Orc I might let slide. This one though...um, yeah. Reported - Offensive name, violation of naming conventions in an RP server and spamming general chat.

You channel nazi's are complete nerds. Stop caring so much about a video game.

If possible, I'd spawn infected-grain crates. Restart the zombie invasion.

this.

I would spawn Jaina into Thrall's throne room.
For the Horde.

give myself all mounts, all reps, and all titles.
then, at that point, i can finally focus 100% on raids and bosses

Having been a GM for other games, I would say that I would never want to be a GM in WoW. Nothing trivializes a game more than being able to go anywhere, do anything, any time you wanted. WoW is fun because we cannot do all those things. Once you've been there and seen that, it gets boring and old really fast.

not if u have a god complex... like me... oh the havic i would rain down on every ally that has ganked me while im fighting off multi mobs... i would tame (cuz im a hunter) yoggi and solo every one... MWAHAHAHAHahaha....
Draelan Apr 30th 2009 3:23PM
I don't think it's the "being able" to go anywhere/do anything that ruins the game. It's the actually DOING it all the time. I remember working up the money for my first flying mount... made friends with another player one day, and they offered me about 200g to get flying since I just dinged 70. Now, taking the money would have trivialized the experience of finally earning my first flying mount, but I kindly refused and thus my experience was fine. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you HAVE to.
JLocke Apr 30th 2009 8:26AM
I'd help people who actually need it :) plus add more Lost references bwa hahahaha!
