Breakfast Topic: If you could be a real GM what would you do?
Gamesmasters have been in WoW news a lot recently. We've had reports that a GM mistakenly sent Martin's Fury out to a player leading to pwnage in Ulduar. For the last twenty four hours, my inbox and those of the rest of the team seem to be full of screenshots showing a weird new bug where player characters suddenly become GMs, if only cosmetically (they get the little Blizzard logo next to their names, but none of the power).Since I started playing back in 2006, I've been fascinated by the Blues. Players speak their names with reverence. They exist unseen throughout Azeroth and have amazing abilities. Like many other players, I've opened tickets and engaged them in-game. I've even met a few in real life as well at the Darkmoon Faire and last year's WWI.
Now I know the life of a GM is not all roses, that their powers are kept in check by rules and regulations, but if you had the chance to be a real GM for five minutes, what would you do? Personally I'd go hang out on GM Island or walk into the hardest instance and smote everything before me. So come on, readers, if you had the chance and the power, what would you do?

Did Jacob tell you to write that?

I'd monitor Trade chat and kick all those little cyber bullies. For longer than 72 hours... they derserve it the way they pick on people.
It gets to the point I can't stand to be in Dalaran. I hurry up with my cooking daily and get the hell out of there.
Little shitheads talkin smack.
And my ignore list is only so big.

I recommend the IgnoreMore addon...it has been doing wonders for my Ignore list for a long time.

I would make myself huge, walk over the walls of Ogrimmar and /chicken the hordies before calling down fiery death from the heavens!
Then I would jump into some BGs on a fire mage and take my vengance out on the DKs in epic style! Death Grip this!!
Oh what fun there could be :)

hmm yeah i like the idea of being huge but seriously do u rly think u could kill a dk as gm?oO
probably not even the gms can kill a "skilled" dk.....

I would level my fishing up to 450 and also complete all the seasonal quests - there's no way I have enough time to do this normally!
I'd also find some way of trapping the gold selling/power leveling spammers so that they couldn't log out - they'd have to close the application, surely wasting their time & annoy them!

Send every major major Death Knight NPC (tuned up to GM Power Level) from the Four Horsemen all the way down to Alexi Barov attacking Orgrimmar.
Oh yeah, that's what I would do.

Two words: Dance party.
I'd get every single boss that would have a /dance animation and make them dance in... hmmm... Dalaran I guess, but there's not a whole lot of open space there. Oh, the sewers! Like, where the arena guys are. It's a basement rave!

I would start the zombie infestation again.
Best event ever.

Thinking about it I guess i'd end up visiting upon an RP server and playing a kind Dungeon Master type roll.
Just exlpoiting the game would get boring fast.

Wrath of the Game Master (not Lich King) will decend upon trade channel such that anybody who isn't offering trade of profession items, materials, or incentives to do something (Like dungeon runs) will chanbanned for 4 hours. There's a general channel that is supposed to be where general conversations take place. That and some forced RP name violations (DK named Dartharthas is going to regret their life)

I would do when ever I run a private server on my pc, I'd make my self level 255 (max level in the game makes all mobs even bosses ignore you) . I'd make a macro for super speed, by upping my base speed and stacking some fast mounts as auras, (love running from the south tip of a continent to the north in about 30 seconds).
What else? well given the in ability to edit the databases I guess 38 slot bags are out (last I knew that was the limit).
I'd go on charity patrol too and give out gobs of free gold!!

All women in the horde shall wear miniskirts!

I'd take control of raid Bosses and RP with raids.
Don't follow the script. Attack healers first, regardless of threat, etc.
No 'insta gibbing' of the raid, but make it... interesting.
And for their trouble when they did beat me, I'd give them better loot.

I would get rid of the gnomes and create some other alliance creature like a snake creature. Then I would take out female dwarves cause they suck soooo much! Then I'd take out a flying super mount and fly to GM Island banning everyone I see on my way ;)

1. Intimidate trade trolls and pull out the banhammer.
2. Spawn the population of Stratholme in Stormwind.
3. Ban all anti-roleplayers.
4. Turn every mob in Azeroth into an infectious zombie.

I actually talked to a GM about what I would do if I was one just recently. I used to play Ultima Online on a freeshard. Every now and then the GM's would host an even (every night). We had pet wars, paintball, auctions, pits (spawn alot of monsters)
It was awesome. IF i was a GM i would try and things such as this, become more active with the players. Tho, blizzard will probably just want me answering tickets...

What shard did you play on? I used to be a GM on a freeshard UO server, and I ran a lot of the events that you listed here. Those were good times.
Windswept Apr 30th 2009 12:53PM
I played on Oblivion Reloaded.

I think a lot of you people misunderstand how this stuff works. GM's don't walk around the game, spying on people, one shotting stuff, hanging out on GM island, and flying around. That isn't how it works.
Those were all development concepts and the "GM" commands are still in the game for DEBUGGING purposes. Martin Fury was just a piece of armor for DEBUGGING purposes. Do you get it?
GMs sit at their desks and watch tickets all day. Sure they have an account, but its an account just like you and me. The have SOFTWARE on their computer for giving people items, checking logs, etc. They don't log into the game and summon boars for fun. That isn't a GM power.
What you people are thinking about are the debugging tools. Very few accounts have access to these tools and for obvious reasons. In fact, most live servers have the commands completely disabled.
So lets try this one more time.
GM = Guy/Gal who sits around and watches tickets, might give you your stuff back. Can't make pigs fly.
Developer = Person who MIGHT have a debugging account with access to debugging commands. Used for INTERNAL TESTING ONLY.
I can't be the only one who understands this. Srsly.
