Finally an answer on Gnomes in the cinematics
We've very closely covered the lack of Gnomes in any of Blizzard's major cinematic pieces so far. We had hoped to see them in the Wrath cinematic, but of course Blizzard went a completely new direction with that one (retelling the story of Arthas rather than showing players fighting), and so they weren't there either. In fact, the problem has gotten so bad that at least one person has remade the Burning Crusade cinematic, filling it with Gnomes just to see what it would be like. And while we've gotten some snide comments from the Blues before ("they're there, they're just too short to fit in frame"), Bornakk has finally given us an honest answer as to why the Gnomes haven't been show in cinematic form: they're just not awesome enough?Wait, that's not what he really said? Well that's what we heard -- he says that the cinematic folks go for what seems most awesome, and Gnomes have just never been a part of that combination. He says Trolls have gotten nearly the same treatment, and while that's true, you can see a Troll for a split second in the Burning Crusade cinematic -- they haven't had the complete shutout that the shorter denizens of Azeroth have had so far.
In fact, Murlocs have gotten more screen time than Gnomes have. But the good news is that the more Blizzard leaves Gnomes out, the more awesome it'll be when they finally appear. The cinematic team can't leave them out of the game forever, right?

Screw the gnomes.
There are no human women, either.
Robert M Apr 30th 2009 5:39PM
Um, last I checked Jaina is a female human. Did you miss her in the Ulduar trailer?
As far as gnomes and trolls go, I'm a little disappointed. They are my favorite races, and trolls on raptors is way cooler than any David Bowie Blood Elf.
It's not that trolls and gnomes aren't awesome enough, it's that their stories never get the attention they deserve. We do nothing but kill trolls (ZF, ZG, ZA, ZD) and pillage their cities while the Darkspears still have no home.
Gnomer is still infected, and there is little evidence that the gnomes will reclaim or even build a new capitol.
How about a patch that starts rebuilding homes for these mistreated races?
Can you imagine a patch that has you turn in raw materials to rebuild a city? Kinda like the gates quests meets 2.4.
Trolls claiming some islands and the gnomes building their new gnomer in the side of a mountain with sea access, would be great launching areas if we do in fact journey into the Maelstrom anytime soon.

Pfft. Thermaplugg can keep the old homestead. As a Gnome, I'm looking at moving into some new digs:

@Robert M.
They mean the CINEMATIC trailers. As in those ones with the hyper-realistic graphics that are pasted at the beginning of Vanilla WoW and the expansions. Wrathgate, Ulduar, and all the others don't count.
Lemons Apr 30th 2009 6:52PM
@Robert M
The Ulduar trailer =/= a major blizzard cinematic.
So far there have been only three CG quality WoW cinematics (one for each expansion). Those little trailers that they release with major patches don't count.

Gnomes are creepy.
Karilyn Apr 30th 2009 5:37PM
And people who play gnomes are even creepier.
offday Apr 30th 2009 5:41PM
This is the first time I've ever been called creepy. I guess my girlfriend and my friends just feel sorry for me?
Balius Apr 30th 2009 6:05PM
Maybe they're all social deviants. You should ask.
offday Apr 30th 2009 6:59PM
Maybe you should ask. It's your mom after all.

Nobody who says he has a girlfriend online actually has one. In this case I'm guessing it applies to friends as well.
skychilde012389 Apr 30th 2009 5:09PM
Of course they can leave them out forever.
jk
They need to include them doing what they do best, engineering. Really, how cool would it be to see a gnome run in on his mechanostrider carrying two giant(to him) cannons and crap.
Arrowsmith Apr 30th 2009 5:09PM
If I saw a massive explosion come as the result of a little gnome, I for one would freak the f**k out. That laugh they have doesn't help, neither does hearing a little girl yelling about how she needs more rage.
Seriously, roll a female gnome warrior and listen to her tell you she needs rage. *shudders*
NekoAli Apr 30th 2009 5:24PM
Actually, I love my female gnome warrior complaining about not enough rage. The same as I love the joke about apologizing for her murderous rampage. I completely intend to go fully Fury so I can dual wield tiny two handed weapons.
Robert M Apr 30th 2009 5:43PM
@NekoAli,
Even one handers look big in those tiny gnomish hands!
Herumor Apr 30th 2009 5:10PM
You might say they got the short of end of the deal. Hur hur hur.
Freta Apr 30th 2009 9:50PM
I raise my 2nd finger in contempt...(Gnome's only have 3 fingers)
Lorsty Apr 30th 2009 5:11PM
Well, if the next expansion is the Maelstorm stuff and the Neutral City is the Undermine, I'm positive there will be some gnomes in the cinematic... or at least a trailer.
Let's see the facts:
-Undermine is the capital of goblins (I think).
-Goblins like explosions.
-Goblins hate gnomes.
-Gnomes hate Goblins.
Based on those fact I'm positive we'll get to see an exploding gnome. *nodnod*

"The goblins of Undermine have lent their considerable skill (and copious amounts of gunpowder) to the task, resulting in a tremendous fireworks show!"
