Finally an answer on Gnomes in the cinematics
We've very closely covered the lack of Gnomes in any of Blizzard's major cinematic pieces so far. We had hoped to see them in the Wrath cinematic, but of course Blizzard went a completely new direction with that one (retelling the story of Arthas rather than showing players fighting), and so they weren't there either. In fact, the problem has gotten so bad that at least one person has remade the Burning Crusade cinematic, filling it with Gnomes just to see what it would be like. And while we've gotten some snide comments from the Blues before ("they're there, they're just too short to fit in frame"), Bornakk has finally given us an honest answer as to why the Gnomes haven't been show in cinematic form: they're just not awesome enough?Wait, that's not what he really said? Well that's what we heard -- he says that the cinematic folks go for what seems most awesome, and Gnomes have just never been a part of that combination. He says Trolls have gotten nearly the same treatment, and while that's true, you can see a Troll for a split second in the Burning Crusade cinematic -- they haven't had the complete shutout that the shorter denizens of Azeroth have had so far.
In fact, Murlocs have gotten more screen time than Gnomes have. But the good news is that the more Blizzard leaves Gnomes out, the more awesome it'll be when they finally appear. The cinematic team can't leave them out of the game forever, right?

Gnomes exploding with so much force they are no longer a playable race would be ideal. I hate gnomes. Even when sprinkled with the proper seasonings.

The only good place for a gnome...
is in my garden. *grin*
jurm Apr 30th 2009 5:34PM
As decoration or as uh... "fertilizer"?
Montius Apr 30th 2009 5:15PM
Behold, i have the answer! There is a gnome in the wrathgate cinematic when they are panning over the alliance soldiers and they say things like "For the Alliance!" The gnome is female with pink pigtails and engineering goggles towards the back.
Ian Apr 30th 2009 9:13PM
Yeah, I gotta say I go with the Blizz on this one.
Gnomes are the opposite of awesome.
offday Apr 30th 2009 5:39PM
No. You're the opposite of awesome.
Ian Apr 30th 2009 9:16PM
I'm sorry, I can't hear you all the way up here! I'm a Tauren. We are seven feet tall and made of cheeseburgers. Taurens are waaaaay to mighty to hear your tiny voice!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some gnome on the bottom of my hoof. *scrape scrape*
offday Apr 30th 2009 10:29PM
And if you'll excuse me, I have to clean the tauren crap off of me, you filthy animals think you can do that where ever you want.
Irshalthra Apr 30th 2009 5:15PM
This comes as no surprise. Gnomes and Trolls are a "cult" following of sorts, but not widespread. To others they are creepy and geeky. The honesty is refreshing.
offday Apr 30th 2009 5:43PM
I'm glad you feel that honesty is refreshing. So since you play WoW just like the rest of us, yet you feel only "geeks" play gnomes, I'm going to give you some more honesty.
You're a hypercritical moron.

thats exactly what they said about yoda being in a lightsaber battle...until they did it.
now those scenes are about the only parts of the prequels i can stand to watch lol.
Scott Apr 30th 2009 5:22PM
Showing Yoda bounce around like a gummy bear is nearly as disturbing as Lucas thinking Star Wars Episodes 1-3 would turn out wonderfully.
In walks Jar Jar, out walks half the audience.
Caz Apr 30th 2009 5:17PM
It would be great fun to load all the gnomes into the Exodar and launch them into outer space.
It could be a bridge to a new MMO - The World of Warcraft meets Starcraft.
Scott Apr 30th 2009 5:17PM
/punt gnomes = touchdown !!
Jason Apr 30th 2009 5:34PM
"The cinematic team can't leave them out of the game forever, right?"
One can hope.

I personally feel that Gnomes are the most out of place race in World of Warcraft. Where did they even come from? I know Blizzard is attempting to give them a back story now with Ulduar, but I think it's to little to late. They should have had Pandas in the game from the beginning, instead of stupid Gnomes. Cause a short little Gnome warrior in full plate wielding two Two-Handers makes total sense...... right
offday Apr 30th 2009 5:38PM
I could name a million things about WoW that don't make sense, but guess what? I don't. Why? Because it's a game. Some of you need to go outside more.
Slyzer Apr 30th 2009 6:16PM
Warcraft 2, The gnomish flying machine.
" OI HAVE A FLYING MACHIIIIINNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEE"
Anyone?
Freta Apr 30th 2009 10:18PM
Yeah and a band of 10 people ranging from 5-7 feet in height fighting a 120 foot tall giant made of stone and defeating him quite easily does make sense? To be fair when it comes to scale it doesn't really mean anything. I mean if your a 30 foot tall boss thingy how big a diference does 2-3 feet make?
And on the note of carrying big heavy swords the most logical explanation is look at the damn blood elf females. But a more in depth answer is look at Chimps. Chimps are roughly the size of gnomes and they have more then 3 times the strength of the average human. Size matters not.
Now finally I feel I should add that Gnomes are in Warcraft because they are the embodiment of what makes WoW great. It's that zany, cartoon-like, humor that seperates WoW from say Warhammer. In fact without that element WoW would essentially be Warhammer with less races. It is the element of optimism that runs throughout WoW's setting and lore that makes it special, and the Gnomes that element in physical form.

Wow. Blizzard sure chooses some idiots to represent their community.
