Agreed. It would be the same kind of situation for the hunter if you as a dps warrior needed on a ranged weapon upgrade over him. In a functional raid you should always give prio to the person that can make the most out of the given piece of gear. At the end of the day, doing so will be more beneficial to everyone since your dps increase will aid the whole raid a lot more.
Then again not everyone can run with their guild. In a pug everything I wrote changes since there's a high chance you'll never ever play with the same people again. There's always a lot of variables in this kind of situations ofc.
