Daily Chores achievement is no longer a chore
Many people have noticed a change in the Children's Week achievement Daily Chores. The achievement no longer requires you to do the same daily quest five days in a row with your orphan out, but instead requires you to do a total of any five daily quests with your orphan out.Let me rephrase for the hard of hearing:
You can just do five daily quests today with your orphan out and you'll get the achievement. You don't need to repeat the same quests for the rest of the week.
It should be noted that this is a hotfix applied this morning, and that the achievement text is you'll see via your achievements window is incorrect. This change is likely due to the gigantic failure that was/is A Simple Re-Quest.
So this is the first nerf bat to the Children's Week achievements. School of Hard Knocks coming up next?

Normally I dislike nerfs on achievements but this one was a good one.
Three days would have been a good nerf as well. (if they had the bugs fixed)

There is the key phrase: "if they had the bugs fixed."
They haven't had that Re-quest bug fixed at all, not since 3.0 first hit. Which had me wondering all along leading up to Children's Week: How would they handle the potential screw up that would be that particular similar achievement?
Count me not the least bit surprised that the same bug caused the same error. At least they were quick with a reasonable solution.

School of Hard Knocks has got to be the dumbest idea ever.
It requires you to get into a BG and totally ignore the objectives of the Battleground.
1. Everyone stands aroudn the center of EOTS fighting over the flag, and your own teammates refuse to heal or assist you, in hopes of stealing the flag once you drop dead. FAIL
2. Paladins and any any othr class with speed boosts leave everyone else behind and race to cap objectives. And then everyone else waits around for opponent to re-cap it so they cna fight over it all over again. FAIL
3. WSG - all the stand around at your flag and do nothing until an opponent shows u pto grab flag - then you all race to kill him to re-cap flag. But nobody want s to be the one to go get the flag. Then as soon as they get the capture, they /afk out of the game... FAIL
4. AB - not even worth getting into AB. FAIL
GET THIS FREAKING ACHIEVEMENT OUT OF THE GAME. IT SUCKS.

I completely agree Netherscourge, and I think the wide majority of WoW players agree too. I'm waiting to hear they've removed/nerfed School of Hard Knocks from the meta to actually start trying any of the others.
It's just stupid.

School of hard knocks needs to be changed IMO to say, "Win each of the four below battlegrounds with your orphan out"
That way people will be competing for the right objective. to win the match.
Was blizzards intention to get people into BG's that previously wouldnt have? If that was it, then they have epically failed. They've made the Battlegrounds the most stressful and boring and unsatisfying thing to play. If i was stepping foot in them for the first time, I'd vow never to come back.

I got the School of Hard Knocks achievement within 40 minutes of starting the orphan questline. While it can be much more time consuming, I think people are overreacting a bit about it.
First, many of the games I was in moved far faster than they usually do BECAUSE people were going for objectives. Do you know how often people try to cap AV towers in my Battlegroup? Or try to get flags back in WSG? Or fight on the flags in AB? Not often. The only one that was problematic was capping a flag in Eye, because that's not generally the best strategy. Even there though, we were able to four cap because the entire Horde team went for the flag. Once we killed them, half of our team got credit for the achievement, one at a time. I came into the next game and the same thing occurred, this time I was able to get credit.
Yes, for some people this will be a challenging achievement. Still, you have five days. You can queue for BGs anywhere now. There are so many tools at your disposal too. Try group queueing with some friends who can keep the opposite faction off your back. Multiqueue across 3 BGs so that if you don't get the objective in one BG, you can switch to another instead of waiting out the full game. If you have gotten the achievement, help others who need it so things move along.
And for the people who are shouting out, "Get out of my BGs, you achievement W****!" Be patient. I've done over 1000 BGs in the last few months. Things have been getting a little stale. This is a short period of excitement where other players are actually awake in BGs. For five days, BGs are a little different. Try to find the fun in it.

About the BG achievement:
Basicly what Phys said above.
It's a short period of fun. It's not as impossible as it first feels. It is still harder then most of the achievements so far in the big meta achievement...something like this is needed. Just think about when you get that proto drake...either everyone and their grandma got one or just those that fought for it.
I preffere the second.

School of Hard Knocks can be good for one thing as an achiever! In Alterac Valley it has become MUCH easier to defend towers and get the 50 defense achievement. In fact, I went into one tower with 4 enemy players who had orphans out, and they did /beg /cheer when I defended 4 times. It seems so.... odd somehow.
seanfury May 1st 2009 3:37PM
They better not nerf School of Hard Knocks. It pisses me off when achievements are SO easy to get, but people bitch about them anyway because they aren't fucking HANDED to them.
Daelusa May 1st 2009 3:46PM
yeah, it sucks when hand jobs are not "handed out"
Raaj May 1st 2009 4:16PM
I'm all for them adding alternate achievements in place of School of Hard Knocks, but I have to say, I really don't like the idea behind it. I'm almost finished (other than it not counting me capping a flag in EotS for some reason), but I hate it because I just know that I'm ruining the game for people that take PvP more seriously.
"OH HAI, I'M JUST HERE TO GET AN ACHIEVEMENT AND SCREW UP YOUR GAME BEFORE I AFK OUT LOLOL"
Note: I *DO* stay and finish the game, win or lose, so that I feel a little less like a dick, but I'm still not really doing anyone any favors when I step in with 0 resilience.
Sajt May 1st 2009 4:21PM
This is not a hard achievement, it just destroys the battlegrounds for this week as the objectives encourage (and require) selfish playstyle, let's not make battlegrounds even more like that.
s_kick May 1st 2009 4:35PM
Stop hiding behind the guise of a challenge seeker. Everybody knows exactly what makes the vehement defenders of this achievement so mad. You had the time to toil away at this terrible achievement, and you're afraid that if Blizzard takes it away, it'll make you just a little less special.
Don't worry. You're not special, and you probably never will be.
School of Hard Knocks is no challenge. It is time consuming and frustrating, and most importantly, destructive to the overall strategy that guides many of the game's battlegrounds. Why it is still included as part of the meta-achievement is beyond me. Maybe it has something to do with the countless people in these comments that complain so loudly, yet fail to show the self-restraint to avoid something that they find unpleasant.
synack May 1st 2009 4:39PM
Umm... I completed it today after hours and hours of grinding AV and WSG and I still think it sucks.
I don't want achievements handed to me but I do want them to be FUN. If the achievements are like labor, then they are poorly designed, period.
AV was the WORST. 40 people all with orphans out going after the same 4 towers to cap. You do the math. I had to respec to give myself a 20% mount speed increase just to guarantee I would be the first one to the tower I was after. Lame, lame, LAME!
Kryxx May 1st 2009 5:24PM
You kill me Raaj. "I just know that I'm ruining the game for people that take PvP more seriously." BG PvP is serious business! If it's that serious to people, make a premade and you can avoid all of the achievement monkeys out there.
RetPallyJil May 1st 2009 6:03PM
Hate to break it to you, but some people hate PvP, and don't see where they should be forced to do more PvP than their preferred PvE to get the meta-achievement.
webrunner May 1st 2009 3:38PM
Daily Chores is still broken for a lot of people.. I didn't get credit for my 2nd and 3rd dailies, even after the server was restarted (and "Home Alone" was fixed)
Treep May 1st 2009 3:43PM
We can only hope about school of hard knocks!
Mattimus May 1st 2009 3:55PM
I did School of Hard Knocks this morning in about an hour or so... with no small amount of dickery towards my own team mates.
I feel really bad about it, but using Hand of Protection on another person so I could cap a flag in AV/AB was the only way to go for me.
This achievement was definitely poorly designed, and I fully expect to see them nerf it to something like "Get 2 of the following 4 achievements" after Children's Week is over... so I'd still get crackin'.
Eric May 1st 2009 3:42PM
Can I just have my Violet Proto Drake?
