Daily Chores achievement is no longer a chore
Many people have noticed a change in the Children's Week achievement Daily Chores. The achievement no longer requires you to do the same daily quest five days in a row with your orphan out, but instead requires you to do a total of any five daily quests with your orphan out.Let me rephrase for the hard of hearing:
You can just do five daily quests today with your orphan out and you'll get the achievement. You don't need to repeat the same quests for the rest of the week.
It should be noted that this is a hotfix applied this morning, and that the achievement text is you'll see via your achievements window is incorrect. This change is likely due to the gigantic failure that was/is A Simple Re-Quest.
So this is the first nerf bat to the Children's Week achievements. School of Hard Knocks coming up next?

I'm really glad to hear this... the prospect of not getting the title (And so my drake) because I can't play on a certain day of the week was quite disheartening.

Yes please.

Something really needs to be done about AV.
While I have no problems going for the more annoying achievements, Alteric Valley is not a level playing field.
If you do not have a speed buff, you simply won't get to the tower before someone who does. I've tried many times now and it just isn't possible.
You basically get one shot at it per game because no one is trying to take the towers back.
Any achivement must have a level playing field and this one doesn't.

Just did an AV.
Everyone skipped glav and when't for the towers.
They should change it to be GY also or completely remove that part of the achievement AV is just unplayable

When I started this year long process I looked at every achievement needed for the entire thing. The only one that scared me was School of Hard Knocks.
In the four years I have played WOW over hundreds of WSG matches I had never returned a flag, and now I had to do it in one week?
I am forever in debt to the wonderful alliance players who last night repeatedly picked up and dropped our flag in our flag room so that all the members of my team could get the achievement.
I predict many will find this achievement much worse than any RNG could ever be.

I tried doing that for the Hordies this morning. They just ganked the hell out of me -- even the ones with orphans out.
So I said to hell with 'em and /afk'd out.
SaintStryfe May 1st 2009 5:42PM
I've been trying to set it up for everything - trade caps/takebacks/caps of AV towers, ect, but then some yahoo comes up and kills the hordie who is recapping the towers, and ruins it. And it's always the same response "GTFO of battlegrounds achievement whore".

...now I find this out, after doing my dailies today. Bah. Oh well, always tomorrow.

I don't think you can really call this a "nerf" in so far as I think it was an "Oh Crap! We gotta fix this."
For months the Achievement Forum has been buzzing with predictions that this achievement was gonna be bugged and lo ... it was. (granted it wasn't the bug we expected)
With Children's Week here and now the most logical solution to removing it was to tweak it instead.
I think the "School of Hard Knocks" achievement will be hard but as long as it's not seriously bugged I'd argue that it's acceptable. I'm looking forward to trying it even though it will probably cost me a few days on my Argent Tournament grind.

Me and my fiancee completed all the achievements today after a lot of effort. The AV and WSG parts of School of Hard Knocks was by far the worst but after about 35 mins in WSG of people grabbing the flag before us and two long AV's we got them. We were dreading EoTS as well but I got the first flag capture and she got the second. Obviously I know we were lucky and it also helped that I play a retribution Paladin and she plays a holy Paladin.
I wouldn't mind seeing it changed a bit tho, it is way beyond any of the other achievements for the meta-achievement and good luck to everyone doing it.

You make a good point - the fact that you're a paladin helped with certain parts of the achievement.
I'd be interested to see the class spread that did it. I know as a lock i've been finding it very difficult.
I also think being in certain battlegroups doesn't help. Bloodlust is so competetive it doesn't help when trying for this achievement.
Did blizz even factor the fact that some classes are more suited to these tasks than others? Did they even test this with all classes to guage the difficulty for each one?

"School of Hard Knocks coming up next?"
Yes, please! I've done all of these myself, but I don't want other people to suffer. :)
Dominika May 1st 2009 4:00PM
All those people complaining about School of Hard Knocks, claiming it's competitive, haven't actually tried being helpful to other people with it.
I got them all done in an hour, and didn't have to be a dick about any of them.
It's remarkable what communication and assisting other people will do. School of Hard Knocks is easier and faster with co-operation, not competition...too bad most players see achievements as a solo thing and don't realize this.
Alliyah May 1st 2009 4:03PM
I really don't understand what's the big thing over School of Hard Knocks. Seriously it wasn't that hard to complete, jeez can you at least keep some challenge into this game.
Netherscourge May 1st 2009 4:11PM
There is NO CHALLENGE in School of Hard Knocks...
It's 100% BUTTON MASHING STUPIDITY!!!!
It's counter-productive to the game. It doesn't encourage teamwork or sportsmanship - it's just you trying to climb over your teammates to get an objective for the achievement and then bailing out of the BG to go to your other achievements.
That's not a challenge - that's brain-dead stupidity!
They should make it "Get 1 Victory in EACH BG with your Orphan out" - IMAGINE THAT! Doing something that requires you winning a BG!!!
lol

Everyone forgets the real reason for the What a Long Strange Trip achievement. It's another way for Blizz to help encourage people to keep their accounts active all year long. $$$
Massadonious May 1st 2009 4:03PM
I guess it's a welcome, and I could only imagine the School of Hard Knocks is coming next, but lets stop pretending that you actually achieve anything during these holidays anymore. Apparently if you only have 5 minutes and 37 seconds a day to play, you should be able to take part in the holidays.
Hey Blizzard, my keyboard only has a backslash, s, i, and t keys on them, can I just sit around Dalaran and get my "Achievements"?
Besides, no one would really care about the logistics of the achievements if there wasn't a huge carrot dangled in front of our faces. I miss the days where people actually did these types of things for the time wasting fun they used to be.
AyaJulia May 1st 2009 4:52PM
This is a backslash: \
This is a forward slash: /
Tell me, does your copy of wow let you talk by using \say, dance by using \dance, laugh by using \laugh?
Just a friendly nitpick. :)

Complain enough and thou shall receive... >.>
General Discuss forums last night was all up in flames with this achievement and Hard Knocks... they're an achievement for a reason people.. LOL
Netherscourge May 1st 2009 4:16PM
They should call them "Blizzard's Achievements in Stupidity", because that's the only thing being achieved with this whole stupid Meta World Achievement Crap.
There's no challenge involved at all, unless you consider screwing over your own teammates a challenge... yea, good job there.
Let's make people do a bunch of STUPID things, based on Random Number Generators and poor content design, for a whole year!
Oh wait, nobody will do it just for fun, becuase it's STUPID - let's reward a Proto-Drake and get everyone's hopes up and then piss them off with STUPID Achievement Requirements!
YAY!
