Daily Chores achievement is no longer a chore
Many people have noticed a change in the Children's Week achievement Daily Chores. The achievement no longer requires you to do the same daily quest five days in a row with your orphan out, but instead requires you to do a total of any five daily quests with your orphan out.Let me rephrase for the hard of hearing:
You can just do five daily quests today with your orphan out and you'll get the achievement. You don't need to repeat the same quests for the rest of the week.
It should be noted that this is a hotfix applied this morning, and that the achievement text is you'll see via your achievements window is incorrect. This change is likely due to the gigantic failure that was/is A Simple Re-Quest.
So this is the first nerf bat to the Children's Week achievements. School of Hard Knocks coming up next?

I think win X, Y, Z battlegrounds with your orphan out would have been a more reasonable PVP objective - people would actually try to win the BGs, then, and not just fight over a tiny piece of it, and healers/clothies/people with bad latency could still actually complete them. Possibly less painful for the hardcore BGers who are having to deal with the people only there for the achievements (although having a bunch of PVP newbies come in is probably painful, they'd at least be interested in success, and not just /afk-ing out after 2 mins or something).

Hey Blizzard, you keep barely missing the one you should be aiming for when you swing that Nerf bat. Your first swing took out the "All three BC pets" requirement for the meta. Commendable. The second swing knocked the wrong PVP achievement for this event out of the game completely. This swing trivializes the daily quest requirement.
There's only two more achievements left for this event. Here's hoping you hit the right one next time yu swing that Nerf bat, because I'm perfectly happy cooking delicious chocolate cakes for people if it means I don't have to spit on my teammates during a PVP match. Maybe you should consider peeking over the blindfold?

I got AV and AB taken care of last night but struggled with EOTS (no one caps just fights over the flag). WSG wasn't terrible but the other side just tried to steal our flag. I am not really lookign forward to trying to complete the last two, especially EOTS, but I was able to knock off a few other BG achievements because of epic wins in AB and WSG.

I don't get AV... the horde on my BG just run to Stormpike and win. Only 5 people can get the achievement becuase of the towers that stand. And even those on the Horde who do fight only defend bunkers - and they don't count. Very annoying. I wish it was just if you were in the general area of the cap.

I thought that the School of Hard Knocks achievement was unfair to healer classes. It never occurred to me that people would be willing to grief their own faction to complete this. >

Ugh I already did my dailies today, apparently before the hotfix. Oh well I will just get it tomorrow I guess.

Please change Hard Knocks. It will only fill the BG's with even more arrogant angry prople than usual. Like last time in WG another player yells in raid "you stupid @#^^ heal not DPS if you want to win" We won even though I ignored the kind request to completely give up my play style. Haven't been back there since. Now I "HAVE TO" go back in and play with those very kind players, steal the flag from them, sure that is going to be very fun. Glad someone thought of that. Nobelgarden was fun for me. I think it was thought out with the new achievment driven holidays in mind. I am just glad I only have two more to go after this then I can go back to enjoying the holidays just for the fun. I will never start another year long achivement.
SaintStryfe May 1st 2009 4:42PM
This is odd. I did this earlier today, I did my Valient work, then I went and did Championing, and only one counted.
I would kinda ask the regular PVP'ers to kind of give us this week. Don't be antagonistic to people who are trying to get the achivement, don't whine if someone /afks, and in exchange, we the smarter and better sorts won't AFK, and we'll try to help you win as much as our lack of PVP skill and PVE specs allow. We don't really ask a whole lot of ya, just this one week. Deal?
Sokrar May 1st 2009 4:51PM
I've completed this already today.
Here are my thoughts.
WSG - those people who were interested in the acheivement defended, and we talked about it. Whomever returned the flag stuck around and helped all others get it returned, but didnt try to return it more than once.
AB - Easy, Just play the game as its intended. I recapped the Lumbermill.
EOS - A SNAFU. Everyone sat around the flag and AOE'd until all members of the opposite faction were dead, then whomever clicked it returned it.
AV - This was impossible at first. Then after the 6th match, a friendly alliance druid sat in the North Bunker and kindly captured the tower back after we turned it. I stood there and kept the peace and at least a dozen people for the tower capture for it. I'm going to do the same for Alliance later this evening.

I am so tired of everyone whining about school of hard knocks. I did it in an hour. There have been a lot of achievements that were harder than this for the Drake. G.N.E.R.D. rage took at least as much if not more BG time because if you die a lot you needed quite a few candies. There is also nothing in the achievement that causes you to play the BG badly. I won the BG in nearly all the ones where i received an achievement except for AB. I don't see any reason why Blizz should remove the achievement from the meta. People seem to be complaining simply because they don't want to do PVP. I didn't want to hop around as a pink bunny clicking on eggs for 2 hours but I did it anyways. Quit all the QQ
Elhannan May 1st 2009 5:18PM
The G.N.E.R.D. rage could be chipped away at, bit by bit, every unlucky death still getting you a little closer to the achievement. These have none of that psychological aid, and no guarantee of completition.
Also, anyone who wanted to could and did turn into a bunny and click eggs. Not everyone can PvP.

From what I've seen, School of Hard Knocks is a pain, however it is not that difficult. The biggest issue is that anyone trying to do Battlegrounds is likely to find 50 of any of them, and once inside, fierce competition to do ANYTHING, as well as lots of turtling(at least, in WSG).
AB seems like it would be easy enough, and in fact might keep people on offense.
EotS isn't usually so difficult. I'm sure people will find a way to do it.
AV is more a matter of running ahead of everyone.
Seriously, Blizzard, this needs to be a "random proximity thing"...except without the random. Yes, that was a subtle Pushing Daisies reference.
jfofla May 1st 2009 5:00PM
Now I want Hard Knocks removed just to piss off all the Hardcores!
The sooner you understand this game now belongs to the casuals, the easier it will be for you.
Kryxx May 1st 2009 5:35PM
Indeed. All the QQ has already nerfed some of the other holiday achievements. Now they are nerfing Ulduar, hah! The QQ of the idiot masses is bringing this game to its knees.
Reminds me of when UO was a great game... then they implemented the "care bear" land.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, I guess. At least give me my care bear stare, though...
lsschwartz May 1st 2009 5:09PM
Yes, the BG achievement was poorly done since it forces all those PVErs (me included) to face BGs with no resilience on, making it harder for our faction to win for those PVPers who care about the BG, is opposite to the group work required to winning the BG and pretty much makes both PVPers and PVErs unhappy while all those orphans are demanding attention.
On the other hand, as a prot warrior that hasn't PVPed since Wrath came out I was able to get all 4 BG requirements in under 2 hrs this morning without even getting a premade ready, and if you do get Children's Week Premades going most of them can be worked out so that people can get it.
I agree that in some stances the nerf bat is necessary, but Noblegarden and Children's Week turned out to be just annoying and not adventurous at all. One part of me is glad I got both done on the first day they were out, but on the other hand, it kinda takes the dedication factor of getting that drake out of the equation.
Still, I have a month long trip coming up at the end of August, where I'll have very limited access to the game if any at all, and if I'm able to rip through the meta achievements that are set to go down then, it might be my chance of not missing out on the mount by Halloween (I ended up getting the Halloween Meta on my alt, and all the rest of the metas on my main).

It is very rare when I can't see the justification or reasoning behind a decision the developers of this game make.
I assume the developers wanted to get people into doing PvP for this one. A fair enough idea, but as people above me have said - it's destroying the BGs. No-one is working towards the aim of the battleground. They're just being selfish and essentially destructive towards the event they're in.
I managed to pull off the WSG achievement section after a lot of frustration, and by sheer luck. And I was on a paladin, at the front line when the carrier died. I've never pulled that off before today, and I know a metric ton of people in my guild who will not be able nor willing to try to do this, since it'll be horribly difficult and reliant on luck for them. Luck with no drop rate, no diminishing returns to help them out.
The School of Hard Knocks should be taken out. People who've spent the best part of a year building up to the meta achievement should not be alienated by a frankly dumb set of PvP requirements which are not only hard for a lot of classes and playstyles, but practically impossible. Ask my wife.
She's a PvE mage.

liu May 1st 2009 5:24PM
Yeah... I've got to say that forcing people to PVP is a bad idea - the jerk:nice ratio of PVPers in general tends to be set pretty high as it is, and when you add in needing to be selfish to complete achievements, it's just awful. I'd rather see them add in a few more "Kill X Dungeon Boss with your orphan" as a substitute - achievements like this one accentuate the worst aspects of MMORPGs.
Kryxx May 1st 2009 5:26PM
"Forcing" people to play BGs? That's a good one. No one is forcing you to do anything. If you don't like it, don't do it.
liu May 1st 2009 5:48PM
You're right, Kryxx - I spoke imprecisely. In order to justify the effort players have put in on the other World Event achievements, they are required to do battlegrounds. I know I've greatly enjoyed many of the other achievements as part of world events (Elders, for example, was great fun, as was most of Winter Veil) - it's just being pitted against not only the other faction, but my own team that's problematic.

I actually just got A Simple Request done yesterday for doing WG 5 days in a row. Total accident I hate doing dialies after the Shattered Son Offensive
