It would be interesting to know if Blizzard would have given him a permaban if the use of the item wasn't in Ulduar and wasn't hard modes. I suspect the reason that most of us have little sympathy for him is he trivialized brand new content that is supposed to mean something when you kill it. I think most people would have played around with the item but I have a hard time believing that any decent raider would immediately go and essentially break the content they'd been waiting so long for.

Exactly even his story is full of holes. I can't imagine what the logs show.

if this was a "i just didn't know better" it would have been treated less harshly

this was "omg look at how they screwed up let's go screw around"
