We won't see many more class changes in Wrath of the Lich King, says Ghostcrawler
So here's some news that'll probably make you feel good if you're okay with your class and just want to grab consistent set of talent specs and go at it, but may get you a little down if you still dislike where your class is. Ghostcrawler said yesterday that he believes there won't be many drastic class changes. In fact, he says, most of the 3.1 class changes were meant to compensate for or tinker with the changes made in 3.0 or to further tweak the classes that got the largest amount of overhaul.
On the plus side, these means that hopefully the current 3.1 talent builds are more or less set, so you don't have to worry too much about respecing based on major changes to class. On the other hand, if you don't like where your class or favorite talent tree is right now, you may be in trouble.
That said, Ghostcrawler hasn't ruled out further changes, and has all but said that there will probably be numbers adjustments. So what we can probably take from this is, at the least, that the basic mechanics and rotations for every class and talent spec are more or less set, at least until someone theorycrafts something different. This also hopefully means that they can focus on adding more content for us to use all our class mechanics on in future patches.
But for now, I hope you like what you have, because it may be all you're getting.

I play ret/prot pally. Just because our rotation does not require us to constantly watch for procs or never be a second off does not mean we are op, it means we are simple.
Though for a bit we were rather OP.
(not that paladins didn't deserve to be OP for a while)
dasime May 4th 2009 7:34AM
As a Holy/ Retri pally I use 2 buttons in retri and 1 as holy.
My retri ones are called 'Die' (a rotation one) and 'Now' (Proccs Avengers wrath and trinkets).
My Holy one proccs all my specials and trinkets at once, otherwise I just spam FoL occasionally on healbot or judge light with a right click :D

YEAH! I picked the winning team at last!
Pallies are so OP they make DKs look like BC Enh Shaman! MY GOD this class is a joke. 5 buttons and you win everything. Pvp? No worries, if it gets too hard, bubble! Haha. Seriously a nice change from having to have a strategy for fighting different classes.
The devs openly revealed that paladins are ezmoad. http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/5586/normalimg2390.jpg
Any pally who qq's never played a real class. Athene is the perfect icon of the class.

I guess I'll shelf my shammy and just play my DK then...
SaintStryfe May 3rd 2009 8:45PM
Why? SHaman rule right now - they heal great, ranged DPS is good to excellent, and Melee is absolutely off the charts. Compared to TBC after the first patch, we are rolling nicely.
Jenn May 3rd 2009 11:29PM
They might not be talking about dps you know. Healing isn't bad right now, but there are definately improvements that need to be done to balance things out a bit. (especially mana regen)
Munky May 3rd 2009 11:35PM
I play resto shammy and he rocks. I had some issues with mana at first, but after gearing up correctly, no problems. Shammys are good where they are. Don't rock the dev's boat and end up getting a nerf.

I'm actually happy with where elemental and restoration are right now, but in my opinion enhancement is sub-par at best and if there's no more changes to be made I probably won't go back.
I'm enjoying healing too much anyway as there really isn't an "i am better than all of you look at my epeen" meter or scale like DPS has.
apoxic May 4th 2009 5:57AM
If you're running OOM as a shammy, you're bad and need to stop playing this game.

So after finally admitting a while ago they completely messed up the retribution paladin and that they were going to work on them, they've decided to go ahead and shaft them completely and leave them in the boring, dreadfully useless state they are.
I began playing as Ret roughly a year and half before 3.0 launched and quite frankly I'm sick of the short end of the stick being enough for Blizzard to throw at us. We've been the laughing stock of this game and apparently will continue to be - minus that awesome weekend when 3.0 launched; 2 days in how many years?
I often wonder why I keep playing my paladin - but instead of fixing these issues Blizzard will go after I-Phone app developers with lawyers and money and make sure to ban players for doing what anyone would do when they are mailed a GM only item from well who..hmm oh a blizzard employee.
What happened to the company so many gamers flocked to and loved all those years ago....
Joelock May 3rd 2009 8:29PM
lol, you do realize everyone thats not a ret pally, and the ret pallies that arent oblivious all agree that ret needs to be toned down right now
Ben May 3rd 2009 8:54PM
"What happened to the company so many gamers flocked to and loved all those years ago...."
They never went anywhere. WoW has over elven million subscribers, and those numbers are still rising.
Almost nine years later, people are still playing Diablo II. I just bought it for my girlfriend, as a matter of fact. She's playing it right now.
Over *eleven years later* people are *still* playing StarCraft. Annual tournaments draw thousands of competitors and millions of spectators.
You want to know what happened? Blizzard set their sights on creating a game more complex than anything they had ever done by several orders of magnitude. More simultaneous players, more content, more modes of play, more counterbalancing design choices.
And you wanna know what they're doing right now? They're making a new StarCraft, with supposedly so much content that they can only fit it in three invidiually sold retail packages. They're making a new Diablo, likely designed to placate their fanbase while they gradually freeze features in WoW and focus work on their new MMO. And that new MMO? That's likely orders of magnitude more ambitious than WoW.
Think of the whole process as having shades of Gurren Lagann.
(^ definitely the nerdiest pun I have ever made, maybe I should be proud?)
Lorsty May 3rd 2009 9:01PM
"lol, you do realize everyone thats not a ret pally, and the ret pallies that arent oblivious all agree that ret needs to be toned down right now"
While certainly the Retribution spec is a little bit too powerful, I think we should let them be for a little while to make up for all those years of "lolret".
Certain classes had their moment last expansion and now they're... not so good. The same will happen with Retribution Paladins and the next expansion, or maybe the last season of this one.
For something it's called "Retribution", right? :P
Reuben May 3rd 2009 11:01PM
Perhaps they did nerf Paladins, and I'm sure the people who play them notice it the most, but I'm a warlock, and they continue to destroy me.
Malkeior May 3rd 2009 11:26PM
Saying Ret is OP is like saying that BC 3 minute mages were OP, front-loaded damage on a horrible player is a sure fire way to win, but against any competent opponent, you'll find yourself praying that the RNG favors you cause that's the only way you'll win.
Arashikou May 4th 2009 12:43AM
@Ben:
Your post was made of SO much win, sir. You communicated the zeitgeist that underlies the opinions of the silent majority. But then you went and drug Gurren Lagann into it.
..and it became made of EPIC win.
Faar May 4th 2009 5:20AM
Don't assume everybody is as amoral as you are, anyone with half a brain and a smidgen of ethics understands that Blizzard couldn't POSSIBLY want you to be able to 1-shot ONE HUNDRED raid bosses. I hate it when people use this word, but don't be an effing retard, man.
Does it make sense you should be able to do this? You, and ONLY you? No, of course not. This is obvious stuff, right?
THJ May 3rd 2009 8:34PM
That picture is epic.
Anelf May 3rd 2009 8:44PM
At last an end to the 3.x altaholic problem:
- Hop on an alt,
- Start questing,
- Can't understand why mobs are suddenly so hard,
- As you die, remember that you'd not played that alt since the latest talent wipe.
Muse May 4th 2009 2:35AM
I leveled my shaman an entire level before I realised I had no talents. >.>
