BlizzCon 2009 tickets on sale May 16 for $125
Blizzard just announced that tickets for BlizzCon 2009, the third fourth installment of their phenomenally successful Blizzard-themed convention, will go on sale on Saturday, May 16, for $125 each. That's a week from this Saturday, friends. Additional tickets will be sold on Saturday, May 30. Edit: You'll be able to buy tickets at blizzcon.com at the appointed times.
BlizzCon 2009 will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on August 21 and 22. For those unable to make it, DirecTV is once again selling a pay-per-view package of the event for $40, which seems a bit steep for a two-day video feed, but will include exclusive video and this year's in-game item. This will also be available as an internet stream, presumably for those not subscribed to DirecTV.
Last year's BlizzCon ticket sales were marked by a figure affectionately known as the Failoc, which was displayed when Blizzard servers utterly failed to respond to crushing demand. This year, they think they're prepared: "the company has made upgrades to the Blizzard Store, including a first-come, first-served queue system and a fixed time limit for completing purchases," according to their press release. Check out Blizzard's FAQ for details on the new queue system.

I've always been interested in going to one of these events, but, i'm a student and travelling to America would be cripplingly expensive...even if it would be one hell of an experience.
Have fun though, i'll start saving my pennies for the direct tv stream :P

$25 extra bucks now? Yikes.
Good thing I already have mine. =)

call me when blizzcon is affordable...
CursedSeishi May 5th 2009 4:49PM
same here
and we know the swag they provide in the bags isn't worth the $100+ cost either, except for well, beta codes, but then again, is it exactly fair to let people "Buy" their way into betas? Eh.

You'll probably be waiting for a while then. Blizzcon has gotten more and more popular every year with last year being the craziest so far. They can hike the prices and people will still fight to get tickets.

$125 is definitely way expensive for a con (so was the old $100) but considering you can email the goodies in the swag bag for many times that, I'd say its a good deal.
I kept mine, but just as an example, the murloc suit was ebaying for about $200 and the beta code for about $150-200. That's a pretty good profit if you were in it for the money.

uh, by "email" I mean "ebay."
Hooray for not proofreading.

It's actually the fourth Blizzcon: 2005, 2007, 2008 and now 2009.

Thanks, fixed.

As much as I would like to attend that is very steep price consider taking myself and wife. add on top depeche mode, NIN etc concert happening these months makes it even harder to justify it.
Reuben May 5th 2009 5:52PM
That is very funny. I am also seeing Depeche Mode and NIN this summer!...along with Wilco, No Doubt, Phish, The Decemberist's and Keane

Fingers crossed they've sorted the Jubilee line by the time you go see those two, assuming you're seeing them at the O2! Getting there and back on Saturday was a nightmare by bus, got home just gone 2 in the morning, about 25 miles as the crow flies!

How and where do we buy the tickets when they go on sale?
peagle May 5th 2009 5:00PM
Tickets to the convention will be priced at $125 USD each and will be available for purchase from the official BlizzCon website at www.blizzcon.com beginning May 16. For those unable to purchase tickets on that date, a second block of tickets will go on sale May 30.

If demand significantly outweighs supply, then the cost of your offering is too low. That's basic economics.
In many cases, the price increase doesn't increase revenue, since the rise in cost also reduces demand. In fact, given last year's Zerg rush against the servers, I highly suspect that reducing demand is the primary motivation here.
Besides, I gather the price of the 2009 ticket is the same that it was for BlizzCon 2005.

Just a note for those who are thinking about attending Blizzcon but aren't sure yet. Do it.
I went for the first time last year, flew all the way in from Texas. It's such an amazing experience, so much fun. Definitely with the money if you can afforde it.
