Breakfast Topic: Are achievements putting too much pressure on players?

The thing is, I know precisely why. It's the pressure of achievements and festivals. Let me be clear, no one is making me do these things but me. Last year I enjoyed Children's Week because it was my first time doing the Outland version, I got rep, money and the smug feeling you get from taking a cute Draenei orphan around to see her heritage. Now all my guildies and most of the other people on my sever are frantically going for the achievements and, in some ways, it feels like the holiday has been cheapened a little. Being so close to Noblegarden probably hasn't helped either.
But it makes me wonder if I'm the only one? Right now I'm a casual player, but do you think the point of these holidays has been lost by the desire to get a Violet Proto-Drake?

I hope you do realize you can "turn off" the chat perfectly fine yourself. But it might have not been such an easy method as you wanted.

I have decided that finishing up college is more important than WoW right now. I have not played in 3 months, but I do check in with my guidies and such. I really don't miss it. Considering that my 360 never has issues with frame-rate and lag, I guess that it's been my 'fix' for the last three months. It's been fun killing zombies in DOA and playing Halo Wars.

I know it's just preaching to the choir at this point, but School of Hard Knocks has made me not want to do anything real in WoW and has put a bad taste in my mouth for pvp, which I used to enjoy.
I wasted a ton of time in WSG trying to get the flag. I didn't get to heal, which I love. I had to dps, because that's the only way I had a chance. In AV, I had on a pair of level 10 boots with a run speed enchant. How sad is that?
The most disheartening part was how people reacted to my excitement. In WSG, when I finally capped a flag, I said something in BG chat and I was mocked. In AV, I got the tower flag and the achievement seconds before someone else. They called me a vulture.
That right there sums up SOHK. I was called a vulture by a team member because to get what I needed, they couldn't get what they needed.

There's way too many sad souls, playing this game for entirely wrong reasons in here. Have you forgotten that you are suppose to ENJOY a game? Is everything that matters to get a certain mount which is a tad bit faster than your current one that everyone and their mother will have anyway? I suggest you take some time off, maybe play some other games for awhile, to get some perspective, because I believe you are wasting your time, and money right now.
Yes, that's my opinion and I'm probably gonna get voted down to the ground for it, but I stand with it.
Btw, I finished the PVP achievement in about 3 hours total with a friend. And I had fun doing it.

I got really lucky on the School of Hard Knocks acheivement, got each one 1st try without having to revisit any battlegrounds :D

Doctor, it hurts when I do this.
So don't do that.
Seriously, if you hate some aspect of the game, don't do it. End of story. This is a lesson that *still* hasn't been learned since the days of pre-BC PVP ranks.

I don't see why they had to make me do DUNGEONS with my orphan in order to get the meta? Last time i did a dungeon was January, and I just don't like them.
You forget pvp players are just as entitled to get the achievements as pve'ers right?!?
And to anyone that can't return a flag... you have no place on a 310% mount in the first place...

The trouble with most of these, IMHO, is the time limit. SOHK was brutal for me as I had only one day throughout the week to even log in.
If, instead, your orphan whistle wouldn't vanish allowing you to complete the achi for the meta in your own time it wouldn't have been nearly as bad.
Iagine if the various other 310 metas worked like WALSTIB! You have just one week per acheivement?
People call the violet PD a welfare PD. I honestly think it requires far more work and dedication.

School of Hard Knocks was the straw that broke the camel's back, in my case. I became so frustrated trying to get it finished, I haven't logged on since Sunday.
I felt like the achievement was forcing me to fight against my own side, not just the usual opposition. Neither the PvErs or PvPers were happy. I would've been much happier if the achievement required PvP participation in a way that actually made sense, such as helping lead your team to victory.

I feel you. I got most of my Noblegarden achievements, but my enthusiasm died down a day into Children's Week. Guess I'll have to wait another year to get that proto-drake.
