New in-game battle bots connected to Mountain Dew?

Here's where it gets interesting. One bot state is blue, and one bot state is red. These blue and red colors match up pretty darn close to the Mountain Dew product that's on the horizon. Take a look after the break for side-by-side comparisons.
But wait, there's more.
The bots have some known commands already: "Blue Battle Fuel" will "Fill up your Battle-Bot with blue fuel." And "Red Battle Fuel" will "Fill up your Battle-Bot with red fuel." This is interesting phrasing given the Mountain Dew is called "Game Fuel."
Fuel up your body while fueling up your Battle-Bot? The advertising pretty much writes itself.
Now it's entirely possible I'm feeding into some devilish marketing ploy by PepsiCo. If I am, shame on them for marketing something I'm mildly interested in. If not, Pepsi owes myself and Trasken (who tipped us off about this little coincidence) a life time's supply of the stuff.
Thanks Trasken!

I am so ready for this mountain dew

Me too. I can't wait to drink it this summer while I play WoW.

I dearly hope you two are being ironic, or are paid shills for PepsiCo.

My bet is on hired guns. (Squirt guns tho they may be.)

Hey guys?
Red = Horde
Blue = Alliance
Why would you think any differently?

Gnomes are quite red too, you know, from all of the punting.

I thought this as well when I first saw them.
But MMO-Champion lists a third model, one with no fuel. It could be that you can fill your battle bot with a particular color fuel, and they attack any bot that is filled with the other color fuel.

I hope they make this with real sugar, like the Mt Dew Throwback. That stuff is so good.

Yeah, but here's another scenario I can come up with off the top of my head:
The Darkmoon Faire has an Achievements tab since 3.1, with nothing in it. Obviously they're planning on adding more to it. With the Steam Tonk Battles, there's no reason to assume there won't be more stuff involving mechanical "pets" in the Darkmoon Faire. The Red/Blue battle fuels could be part of this, limited to Horde/Alliance.
Just off the top of my head. I don't understand why people immediately think it's related to Mountain Dew.

While I'm not a fan of Mountain Dew as a drink, I can see this being a game of some sort in which you find the codes on select bottles. People would enter the codes via the game and would be rewarded with a pet.

ingame advertising? Say it isn't so!
Cheese Rations May 5th 2009 12:44PM
It's actually the opposite. There's WoW advertising on the drinks and you just, apparently, get something in-game for drinking them and likely collecting points.
I don't see any logos on the bots or anything else to lead me to believe that there is going to be advertising of any sort in-game. Just because you get something in-game from something out of the game doesn't mean that there has to be advertising in-game for it.
Moonduh May 5th 2009 12:34PM
I hope it's not some lame "GAMER COEZ!!!!" thing. Like, where you get points or something from buying the Mountain Dew that will let you get these battle bots ingame.
Moonduh May 5th 2009 12:36PM
codez*
Note that it's hip because they spell it with a "Z"
Deadly. Off. Topic. May 5th 2009 12:36PM
I hope not.
Imagine having to drink 1000 bottles of this and not being able to sit down for a month.
strikersully May 5th 2009 12:37PM
I was just about to say that it was. I'm betting we'll have a website to put in bottle-cap codes. Then when we get enough, it'll give us a code to enter in-game for these, very similar to the WoW TCG codes.
The worst part? I'll be first in line to get it.
Ted May 5th 2009 1:04PM
Oh, I'm so down for this if that's the case. How cool would it have been if you got a custom orange colored spartan laser if you bought the Halo Mountain Dew? Pretty damn cool methinks.
Tim May 5th 2009 1:12PM
Every other sweepstakes or competition out there has a "enter for free" method hidden somewhere in the fine print. I'm fairly certain that if they do a Code based reward system the method for entering for free will be posted on every wow-themed website out there.
Yeng May 5th 2009 1:55PM
I'm thinking that's exactly what this is going to be. Either some sort of point collection or 'You win' bottle caps. Very similar to what Pepsi summer promotions are like.
d May 5th 2009 2:50PM
The alternate method of entry thing only apply to contest-type prizes, as most states require that contests be open to people without having to buy a product. If Mt. Dew would do a 'buy 50 bottles and enter the codes to get the in-game pet' thing, then they'd be under no obligation to provide an alternate method of getting it, as loyalty/reward programs are entirely legal, so long as no random chance is involved.
