That's a huge amount of realms for just one destination...
Lorsty May 6th 2009 2:29PM
In fact, this is the 3rd of 4 transfer phases, all with around 20~ servers.
:o

@Jason: Thats because that realm was the one you couldnt transfer to when they opened the latin american realms.
I even think they had the AQ doors closed for a while, before a GM or a patch stole them of their oportunity to do that event. :S

This is for latin people in those servers Imo. I'm one, i was in boulderfist, and i had to speak english in the server. Now, been able to speak my native language on the server have been a new experience. Of course i had to pay.
Bonemage May 6th 2009 2:32PM
I think your language assumption is fail, expect to see a lot of portugesse, we have a number of latin american members in our guild and nearly all of them speak portuguese not spanish.
Hexar May 6th 2009 4:01PM
Brazil is the only country in all of Latin America whose official language is Portuguese. However, since Brazil is home to more than half of all South Americans, there's a pretty even split between Spanish and Portuguese speakers in South America.
If you add the North American countries south of the US, they all speak Spanish, so the majority of all latin americans speak Spanish.
Other notable countries that speak Portuguese are Portugal and a few African countries such as Angola, Mozambique, East Timor, etc.
Just thought I'd clear that up.

MAN I wish they gave us this language info the first time around.
-.-
I eventually deleted my character after that first free transfer to a Latin American server.
Before you say I should have innately known about the language thing, I truly did not expect it. It cut out half or more of player interaction.
ah well, it was only an Alliance toon LOL!

Fer crying out loud, they appear under a tab that reads *Latin America*. What did you thought it meant, Texas?
Josin May 6th 2009 2:35PM
But... do they know about the Martin Fury debacle? How is it impacting them? What are their thoughts in Latin America? WoWInsider readers WANT TO KNOW!!!
fogo May 6th 2009 2:43PM
As a long time brazilian player (and WI reader) I can assure you are aware of Martin Fury and everything else happening in the world ... of Warcraft even.
Josin May 6th 2009 3:01PM
Oh good. With there being over half a dozen stories since it was last reported on... I was getting worried.

Thrall told me not to travel to South American realms because of the swine flu epidemic...
Hilus May 6th 2009 3:15PM
Well, bad news (you don't really read or hear or see news, do u?):
There's porcine flu ALSO in the U.S. (NY anyone?)

As a native spanish speaker I went to take a look into the Latin American realms when they opened. There were a lot of english speaking (typing?) people there, far too many. I guess new, low population servers are attractive to some people, but they basically ruined my main reason for creating a new character in what I expected to be a Spanish/Portuguese language server.
I went back to take a look later on, but the situation was pretty much the same (plus the death knight overflow). The language mix just ruins it for me, I completely hate it, plus the language wars that were there from the start where still in place on trade/general chat (with a good chunk of it being in really bad english, which made it even worse).
Gnosh May 6th 2009 3:12PM
You mean the english-speaking players have been sneakin' across your borders?
danielrdm May 6th 2009 3:19PM
I just can tell you that people there Speak spanish 85% of times...
pantear May 6th 2009 4:27PM
It really depends on which server you went to. All three servers were under this assault, but the general community on the PvP server reported these people. Luckily, most either moved on, or found the joys of rerolling in a completely new account.
I don't know the situation at Drakkari right now, but last time I checked (some time after it opened) it was calming down. At least the forums are clean.

As a Ragnaros player (Latin American pvp server) and Spanish speaker, I must say that the mix in trade channel, or other places is common. And the reason is simple: most of us like playing an English version of WoW, so almost everything is in English.
For example: places, cities, spells, items, everything!
It's really sad when someone asks for help, using the Spanish translation, and almost no one can help, because we don't know what they're talking about :P
talking in Spanish is more common in guild chat, but there are moments when english is just too much :P
And not knowing the language should be an incentive to learn a little :P we know enough English to fill the gap :)
