Mountain Dew Game Fuel website revealed, counting down
We announced Mountain Dew Game Fuel quite awhile ago now, but it wasn't until recently that we've seen the official Game Fuel website. As you can see in the picture above, when you visit the site you're greeted with a countdown. The countdown says you can 'start earning tokens' when the countdown hits 0, which I assume means we'll be able to get our grubby nerd hands on the soda itself in just under 9 days. Unless they have some odd, magical way of gaining tokens beyond buying and drinking Game Fuel.
Players with any interest in PC gaming or WoW swag at all will be pretty impressed with who they have on board for the prizes they'll supposedly be giving away every 15 minutes. J!NX handles most of the official WoW clothing, and Alienware... well, I've never actually used an Alienware product, but at least their stuff looks cool. That's a good thing, right?
So far there's no evidence of those battle bots we saw being attached to the Game Fuel at all on that website, but there's that whole convoluted saying that's become so cliche over the years. The absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. We don't see it yet, but we may yet see it.
[Thanks, Jeztur!]

Blah, guess I'll have to pick up a few bottles in 9 days.

Might be a good guess that the Battlebots are an included game prize, to be awarded in game. Colors could indicate faction.

As far as the Battle-Bots go, I said it before then, and I'll say it again here:
Red = Horde
Blue = Alliance
I will eat my hat if it turns out to be any more than that (such as an advertising tie-in with Mountain Dew).

re: mattimus...
I hope you have a tasty hat. ;-)
Did you think, perhaps, that maybe the Red/Blue of the Mt. Dew flavours is for Alliance/Horde marketing?
The action/flavour text of the battle bots indicate a choice of fuels.

OK, if the bots are part of the promotion (purchased using bottlecap codes or whatever), here are my questions:
1) Are the actual minipets, or toys like the Steam Tonk Controller or Crashin' Thrashin' Racer?
2) If they are actual minipets, where does the "fuel" for the pets come from? More bottlecap codes? If so, does that mean these pets will be non-functional after the promotion is over?

The red/blue Horde/Alliance theme has been used for a lot of things. They add in Horde/Alliance separately themed items almost every content patch.
People are drawing these parallels because of colors. Obviously the drinks are themed after Horde and Alliance, just like a ton of other out-of-game merchandise and in-game stuff. We have no clue what the battle bots are in for.
I put up the idea before that it could be for Darkmoon Faire, that already has steam tonk battles. You get the Battle Bot from a vendor, and then get a "Battle Fuel" based on your faction to fight against other Battle Bots. Notice that there's a new Darkmoon Faire achievement tab with nothing in it... they're obviously planning more content for it! That theory seems every bit as valid as a Mountain Dew cross-promotion, and more likely given how Blizzard KNOWS the player reaction to in-game advertising would be.

Is this shiz avalible in Europe?
Candina@WH May 6th 2009 4:08PM
:-) Mt. Dew is not my favourite, but I will willingly throw myself on this grenade.
I hope battlebots are part of it... I really do.

Any significance to the time/date? May 15th at 3:30pm EST (12:30pm PST) = ...Nothing I can think of off-hand.
Candina@WH May 6th 2009 4:30PM
Proably time to coincide with when Pepsico will start airing TV/Radio/Internet adds.
On the other hand, a Blizzard 12:30 news conference or announcement? Doubtful, but I'm bored and speculation is vaguely entertaining ;-)

This stuff better be available in Canada.

I went to 7-11 for a Slurpee and bought a Mtn. Dew while I was there. Coke is doing a promotion where you buy a Dew and get a Vault free...
Mohrlock May 7th 2009 12:41AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but on this side of the planet Pepsico owns Mountain Dew, not Coca Cola (Amatyl). So seams a bit strange that Coke would be doing a promotion for Mtn. Dew with a Vault (Volt?).
Sorry I'm a stichler for soft drinks (soda, pop, fizzy drink, call it what you will) and generally know which company makes which soft drink. Ie. some restaurants have the Coca Cola range, others will have the Pepsico range. And like I said feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, just that promo made my head hurt instantly with cross-brand promotion. Maybe it's just some store clerk not realizing he's gonna majorly piss off a merchant representative when they come in to his store *laughs*
I'm a big Dew fan, bit upset they de-caffinated it here in Australia. Even with your crazy cross promotion; at least you've got more hope than me to be getting this yummy Game Fuel :*(

The real question is how much money will you throw at the purchase of Mt Dew to get a non-combat pet in game?
And can the codes be traded/sold?
Kat May 6th 2009 4:19PM
In the end, those of us who can't have sugar will be left out, as these drinks rarely, if ever, come in a sugar-free version. :(
Ah well, at least I can sometimes find diet Amp.
Arashikou May 6th 2009 9:39PM
Wow, what's your secret? I can never find Diet Amp anymore.
Though the white rhino I'm stalking at the moment is Diet Ruby Red Squirt. Not just Diet Squirt. Not just Ruby Red Squirt. Both at the same time. It used to be fairly common, but fell out of mainstream stores years ago. I hear Target still stocks it sometimes, though...
Deadly. Off. Topic. May 7th 2009 9:39AM
What may happen for me is that if I have money to waste - I'll fob it onto family and friends, but of course keep the code for myself. ^_^v
Lycanthro May 6th 2009 4:23PM
Caffeine makes me sick unless I'm drunk so I'm gonna be buying these just for the codes (assuming there are in-game prizes) and giving the soda to friends or co-workers. I hope you can get this stuff at costco.
Radiophonic May 6th 2009 4:24PM
I'm willing to bet that we can win those bots from cap codes.
peagle May 6th 2009 4:34PM
High calorie drinks targeted at people with sedentary lifestyles are a leading cause of obesity, heart disease and death in this country.
On the other hand, I want my bot(s).
