Wintergrasp lag a big issue after patch 3.1
Zarhym has got some answers to the widespread problem of lag in Wintergrasp after patch 3.1 the other week. He says Blizzard figures the problem is simply population based -- there are many more people playing in the battleground than there were before the patch. For that reason, they're having trouble coming up with good solutions: the battleground is designed to be non-instanced, and that's why a lot of people like it, so putting a limit on the amount of people in there is not the way to go. Hardware isn't a solution either -- Blizzard's hardware is already top-of-the-line, and not only would upgrading it take a while anyway, but my guess is that most of the lag issues come not from Blizzard's side, but from the connections between players and them, which they may not have any control over anyway. So yes, we're more or less out of luck -- as long as Wintergrasp is extremely popular (and even Zarhym remembers the naysayers before the release with a smirk), there will always be a certain amount of lag in there. There are a few good suggestions floating around the comments thread -- one is that Wintergrasp should always be conquerable, which seems like it would keep down on the flood of people, though of course there'd be other issues if that were implemented.
At this point, Wintergrasp lag may just be something we have to live with. Eventually, you have to think the population will drop back down, and then those of us still in there will enjoy lag-free battles again. But Blizzard has taken on quite a goal trying to do non-instanced PvP full of vehicles and towers without any lag at all.

Nope, just empty pavement at both locations. It's been a constant bug on our server for quite some time. The battle starts, the portal closes and you have to fly the rest of the way - if the attackers are glitching through the walls, the battle is over before you can get there.
The server also likes to flip control to the Alliance after a Horde victory (which turns the keep into a death trap for the victorious Horde defenders). Probably the same bug that closes the Horde portal when the Horde wins.

I though the thread was if the lag was WORSE in WG post 3.1
FWIW, I think it is. Plus to boot, I get a D/C at every match, sometimes twice, and that never happened pre 3.1.
Seems more buggy. Last week, we were on defense and the Horde were busting through the door during those last seconds. It was quite laggy, like 1 frame per 2 sec. I saw the timer hit zero, and the words "The Alliance have defended Wintergrasp!" appear on my screen and the 3 WG marks in the Chat. Then, about 30 seconds later, the words "The Horde have captured Wintergrasp!" appeared and I got the 1 WG mark on top. Nobody wanted to ticket a GM because they would loose the free WG mark. So we both won and lost the WG battle.

I just don't buy Zahrym's answer. It's not just about the number of people. On Aggramar, we don't see remarkably larger groups of people, but we see ridiculous lag any time the keep is broken into.
The lag is WAY worse than pre 3.1 - ridiculous lag - and alliance has lost at least five matches solely as a result of lag (lag in the last minute of the match or once the relic is exposed, etc.)
The "fixes" in 3.1 only made it worse, so the easiest change would be to put it back to 3.0 state until they can figure it out. The best alternative, I think, is to instance it. Sure, it creates issues, but it's already broken - fix it.

Just out of curiosity, are there any realms where the populations are low enough that no lag is showing up in WG?

It's a coding issue if they're hardware is "state of the art", has to be.
I use as an example EVE Online.
In EVE, you can go to the most populous locations, and there is little to no lag. We're talking locales with 500 or 600 people in them. If you are unfamiliar with EVE, it's a starship based MMO with approximately 3000 star systems for the players to run around and do stuff in. Each system has it's own dedicated server. It's biggest selling point is that everyone who plays EVE is on the same server all 50,000. Now if EVE can handle 500 or 600 people in one place at one time, much less the 25 to 30k that are on the cluster, why can't WoW?

I agree with Rylka completely. I am on the same server and everywhere is lag city. Even if I escape to IF I still have lag.
Then there is WG...the ONLY pvp thing I do at all (never gonna get my Patron title now...) Say I do WG 5 times a day...3 or 4 times out of those 5 the lag will be so bad I will either freeze up and be dead when it is unfrozen or it will dc me and then I will have to take 5+ times trying to reconnect. I can't even tell you how many Marks I have been screwed out of.
Is it even possible to open a ticket everytime to get my earned Marks? I am sure they could see I had the kills but with no other proof that the "lag did it" I am probably just SOL.

oh guys, you are taking so high here , why not go there ,www.ignworld.com, a website you may find something special.

I go to WG because I get about 5-10 times the honor per hour compared to puging bgs.
If you made the return on investment simlar to other forms of pvp then WG would only get the ppl who like it turning up.
