I gave up on the argent tourney when I realize how hard the jousting gimmick was, I had so much trouble just trying to defeat one valiant, let alone 3 every damn day.

Jousting tips:talk to the person, then let them start riding away from you. As soon as they're in range to throw your lance, do so then run up to them and start to melee. If you're new to this, just keep whacking on them until they turn to run out for jousting range. Let them go until they're in throwing range again, and let them have it then immediately chase them down. They won't have time to throw their own lance, nor will they ever get to the range to charge at you.Once you're comfortable with that, you can start jumping out to throwing range and running right back in again to continue melee. And once you're comfortable with that as well, you can start weaving in the occasional charge/throw combo.

Similar to Narlic's strategy, I had a lot of trouble with the jousting until I figured out a relatively simple rule: stand still unless you can charge. If they're meleeing you, you hit them right back. When they turn their back to you and run away to charge you, you charge them before they have the chance. After your charge has hit them, loop back around and get in melee range as well. Narlic recommended throwing a shield-breaker first, but I usually do that right after charging them instead, while looping around. Whether you throw the shield-breaker before or after the charge, you'll strip two stacks of Defend off them and do a fair amount of damage while only losing one yourself. It'll still take some practice and timing, but it's definitely doable.

@narlic I know all this, it's not within my skill level though as you need to do this 100% perfect no slip ups, you let the valiant combo you once, your dead.I'm unwilling to do that 3 times a day and I shudder at how hard the black knight must be.

********Possible Spoilers Below***********Good news, the Black Knight is the easiest one of all, even easier than the valiant quest ones. I was scared of him too, so I saved him until I could reliably win jousts. Once he gets to a certain % of health, he stops and talks then you dismount and finish him off without a mount - easy peasy.
