This article was great and mirrors closely my feelings on patch 3.1: Secrets of Ulduar. The Kirin Tor should not be sitting around in Dalaran like nothing is happening while the freaking death god is about ready to break free of his prison and destroy all life on Azeroth! The mages around the city should be talking about it, Rhonin should be talking about it, battle-mages should be running through the streets and into portals that lead to the front lines, and Dragonhawk riders should be taking off from Krasus' Landing. Instead there is nothing!Freaking Arcanist Braedin is more passionate about getting people to retake Wintergrasp fortress for the 900th time then Rhonin is about getting heroes to join the fight against Yogg-Saron! It's all a little disappointing imo.The tournament was awesome for the first few days, but I think that was simply because of its new car smell. Now it's just a place I go to pick up a few dailies and do some extremely time-consuming jousting against lifeless opponents. Shit should be happening there! People at a tournament do not just sit around!I especially like your point about the construction. There's a lot of opportunity for some serious Goblin humor that's being passed up atm. A celebrity appearance would also be nice to lend more credence to the event. Sure Tirion sanctioned the tournament, but he hasn't even bothered to show up to it even once! I guess he's got important ledge standing to do over at Crusaders' Pinnacle : /There is a balance. There should be things going on, but not too many things, and not too often. I think the scripted event in Shat where Lady Liadrin talks to A'dal about joining him (it?) was fairly reasonable in the rate it occurred. I enjoyed stopping and listening to the whole conversation from time to time, and I never got the feeling of "This bitch again? God dammit women you've already pledged your allegiance 546 times!"Patch 2.4 set the bar incredibly high as far as immersion and made the player feel like he/she was in the midst of a colossal war effort. And now we expect our world to visibly and substantially change with each patch, and I'm sorry Blizzard, but 3.1 was a step backwards in that department. 3.0 automatically fulfilled that goal simply by adding a new continent, but 3.1 was the true test and as far as I'm concerned it didn't earn high marks. Here's to hoping that 3.2 will be better.
