Breakfast Topic: So much for Children's Week

Admittedly, as much as I disliked the design principle of the School of Hard Knocks -- I still think it didn't give a good impression of the Battlegrounds to new players -- a lot of people got the Achievement within a day or two. By mid-week, it was back to normal again. Which meant that in my Battlegroup, Horde weren't playing Alterac Valley again. If there was anything good about the School of Hard Knocks, virtually every Battleground started with even numbers every time. Never mind that most of them were recklessly endangering their wards and couldn't care less about winning, but even numbers are always a good start!
Anyway, how did Children's Week go for you guys? Did you get everything you wanted? Pets? Items? Did you complete the Achievement? Was it difficult, easy, or not even worth bothering with? Share your thoughts on what is arguably the most lackluster yearly event yet. I mean, where were the orphans in Northrend? Surely it wouldn't have been too hard to make quests for little Wolvar or maybe Frenzyheart and Oracle children, would it? Maybe next year?

Got two pets, mishun accumplished :-)
There are no orphans in northrend because the scourge lets noone alive, not even children (eventhough when players are turned into zombies, they still can't kill them)

Screw that, I want mah baby Wolvar!
Blizzard is constantly saying "we're updating world events to make them more fun." A baby wolvar would've been fun. Losing the race to the tower flag in AV 1,000 times is not fun.

I saved AV for last because I knew it would be the easiest. First AV I landed in was a turtle. I ran right past the combat, jumped both horde fences, and still had time to pull out my orphan before capping both towers just as alliance to run out of respawns.
Remember folks, Turtles only happen because you let them.
Arathi Basin was awesome. With everyone trying to capture flags the fight was very intense, bases were switching hands constantly. Prob the most fun I've had in an AB in a long time.
The other two were just a pain in the ass. In WSG I could never get to the flag in time to click it, and in EotS half the raid was just trying to camp the flag spawn and nobody was bothering to defend the bases. What a stupid achievement.

Never was able to complete the BG ones. Guess I never got into any of the ones that had win trading, uh I mean collusion, no I really mean cooperation, yea that's it, cooperation between the Alliance and the Horde.
I did get "Not In My House", so it wasn't a total loss, I guess...

Got it done within 2 hrs of the first day after logging on...
the wife did it on 4 toons
all in all, pretty easy once you get in your stride in the bg's (or have some people come along to help)

Got my UP run in last night. Had to stay up way too late to get it, but I know when I get that purple lizard-bird it'll all be worth it. btw, that picture made me lol.

I have a bunch of alts and gotten half of the orphan quests done. But I went and got a new whistle (lasts 7 days) and I was able to finish the quests after Childrens Week ended.

I managed to get the meta achievement within the first couple of days.
But forgot about getting my mini pets until my draenai orphan's whistle disappeared. No Elekk for me this year, but I did get my Piggy.

FYI, the Daily Chores achievement didn't "bug out". It was intentionally changed due to general issues with achievements concerning daily quests.
Lish May 8th 2009 8:22AM
I was going to say the same thing. Adam did an entire post about this change last week, even including a link to a blue forum post to verify it.

Yep, came to comment for the same reason. The devs simply choose not to hotfix in a change to the achievement's description.
Kcaz64 May 8th 2009 9:21AM
Because they CAN'T hotfix the achivement text. That requires a patch.
Deadly. Off. Topic. May 8th 2009 9:55AM
They could have always put in an in game notice to all players, but they didn't do that either.
Ed May 8th 2009 8:12AM
Just a correction: The Daily Chores achievement did not bug out. It was changed by the devs, though the achievement description remained the same.

The BG thing really hung me up because im not good at them but my friends came to the rescue at the 11th hour and we all got it done.

Hrmmm that was supposed to have a seanconnery tag around it, silly HTML cleansing. :)
mibluvr13 May 8th 2009 8:15AM
I don't understand you silly other battlegroups.
On Vindication (Burning Blade is my server), level 80 battlegrounds pop for both factions within a minute. Off peak times, it might be two. AV is ALWAYS instant though.
And since all the AV changes, Horde and Alliance win all bgs about 50/50, although AV and EotS are more Alliance slanted and AB and WSG more Horde.
What's wrong with your battlegroups?
elfennau May 8th 2009 8:21AM
Too many Alliance, not enough Horde?
ishtar May 8th 2009 8:20AM
Just a comment about the Wolvar children... I don't think there are any. As I think it has been pointed out before, we go and gather up all those cute little pups and return them to a village of suspiciously fat walrus men with no sign of any care facilities and in fact no sign of any pups afterwards.
Unless of course Children's week for the Wovlar is getting their pups as far away from the cookpo... I mean the benevelent clutches of those cute and fatherly walrus people.
But on the holiday, I enjoyed it. I liked taking the orphan around again. I ran through UP with my girlfriend (her first heroic) and she loved it (and got nice loot). My only gripe was the School of Hard Knocks, which we both completed along with lots of swearing and shouting and death threats directed towards other players. I know the suggestion was be nice and fair but in this game you get a lot of people who just love to make others game as much of a hassle as possible.
