Phat Loot Phriday: Northern Barrier

Name: Northern Barrier (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWWiki)
Type: Epic Shield
Armor: 7890 Armor (221 Block)
Attributes:
- +42 Strength, +94 Stamina
- Increases defense rating by 63, which is just awesome.
- And increases hit and expertise rating by 28 each. Which doesn't just make this a great tank shield, it makes this a terrific threat-generating shield. It doesn't have any extra block rating on it (though the block there by itself is terrific), so won't help as much with damage mitigation as some other shields might. But when you absolutely positively need to keep aggro, accept no motherf#$*ing substitutes.
But still, if you've got the cash, and you see it on the AH, go for it. Somebody's gotta finance those big raiding guilds' potion funds, right? And plus, it'll help them buy more potions from me. Thanks!
Getting Rid of It: Sells back to vendors for 13g 89s 3c, and disenchants into an Abyss Crystal.

I can't imagine how much this will cost at the AH. Any guesses? 20k?
DecoyTPH May 8th 2009 9:25PM
It was up on the Gorefiend AH for 9K the other day. And I haven't seen it back up since, so I can only assume it sold.

Maybe wait till like a month later?
Yeng May 8th 2009 7:16PM

I have this fookin' shield.
It's pretty decent for threat, replaced Wall of Terror with it.

Why in gods name would you ever "Getting Rid of It," waste of typing. TL;DBR (Too leet, didn't bother reading)

Sold 2 of these, 6k and 7k a piece. Paid for raid repairs for the week.

How do you manage to die for 13k worth of gold in Ulduar?
Do you mean repairs, enchants, glyphs, mounts, pots, bandages, food and drinks for your entire guild?
Still, this shield is a sidegrade from WoT, depending on what you need more, BV or Def.
Dale May 17th 2009 6:36PM
We can spend 4k for raid repairs in one night easily wiping on hard modes.
Shizzylish May 8th 2009 9:11PM
I have it but went back to Wall of Terror. The BV on WoT is much better. Check our Rawr for the stat breakdowns. Its a nice shield don't get me wrong, but go farm 25Man Nax for a better one.

If you have your def cap already, then take WoT, but if you're waaaaaay off it, take this. I lack 3 def (goddamn!) so I'll stick with WoT. It looks more like a paladin shield compared to this.
Thysmage May 10th 2009 6:26AM
FFS.. why is every other good epic shield has a face on it.. :/
Hero's Surrender
Wall of Terror
and now
this..

Sold one of these for 15k since it is just a side grade.

Why are people saying "the block value is better" on those other shields? Block value SUCKS a basketball through a hose. Expertise keeps you from being parried by bosses, and hit lets more of your threat generating attacks connect. Also, defense rating provides almost exactly the same ammount of avoidance as dodge does, and (and!) gives shield block rating. Wall of Terror is a trash tanking shield compared to this monster!
ChibiSpiff May 9th 2009 11:56AM
Wall of Terror is an avoidance shield. It has Defense, Dodge, and Block Rating. This is a threat shield, it has Defense, Hit, and Expertise.
Both are awesome in their own right. Just use the one that suits your needs more.
