I just got my main to level 80. I am a Druid bear tank. What is the best way to approach getting geared? It seems hard to get geared to try and tank heroics, with so few people running regulars. Also, since this is my first character to 80, I don't have a lot of money for purchasing crafted items.

I'd say your best bet is to try and run the regular dungeons you need to get the loots you need for heroics. I've seen plenty of 80s running reg HoS and HoL and CoS to get a few last pieces of gear before hopping onto heroics. Its nice to grab a Titansteel Shieldwall to have waiting for you at 80, but its really doable having the choice gear you get from regular dungeons. Then start off with some easier heroics and you'll find your gear scaling up nicely while you progress into the harder heroics.

As a bear tank, you're lucky in that you don't have to worry about being defense capped. That said, you still want to achieve enough mitigation and HP to avoid being totally smashed, so SOME defense is still a good idea. You do have more options other than just dungeons for obtaining gear. The first is rep vendors. Although the selection isn't as good as it was in BC, imo, there is still a lot of stuff available that will probably be worth getting. Do item searches on wowhead or a similar site to find out what your options are and what you need to do to get the gear you want.Your second option is one fairly unique to druids (as far as tanking goes, anyway). PvP gear provides surprisingly decent stats for a feral tank - decent stamina, and resilience, while not considered a PvE stat, is better than nothing. The disadvantage is that you won't find any defense stats other than resilience on it - which for a druid tank isn't that big a deal since we don't use parry or block. The advantage of PvP gear is free, requiring only some time to get. It's quite easy to get ridiculous amounts of honor in very little time these days. It often also has agility (which gives dodgy goodness) AP, and crit. While AP and crit are not considered the "prime" druid tanking stats, they're still quite nice. Finally, consider your own professions. No matter what they are, you can probably either make or gather the mats for something that would be useful to you.

As a feral tank you will need to get any of the high stam expertise gear. pvp gear is ok but since BC it has been a poor choice.(they made Resil take up a fair amount more of the item budget than at 70) With savage defense the crit from pvp gear is nice but the agil is lacking for avoidance.
