I rock a ffb mage in BGs and arenas. I'm relatively new to WoW (~2 month) but I absolutely love my fire mage in pvp.
In arenas I find that the longer I live, the higher the chance I will run out of mana. I had to use Glyph of Mana Gem for some extra blue juice. I will I had 8 major glyphs for pvp. Living bomb, evocate, mana gem, molten armor, ffb, and ice nova are all very valuable glyphs.
Ice lance is still a great option with the fire build because frost nova and all the random procs of your ice spell freezes. Its glorious when your fire FFB freezes them in place, and your second FFB is followed by a speedy ice lance. They often both crit and explode the enemy healer. I'm a fan of doing that.
When you proc and insta pyroblast, blow all your cooldowns before throwing it. Combustion, icy viens, pvp sp trinket, whatever. Throw the pyro, then follow up with some fast burst. They are the best way to kill an enemy healer and make the battle a lot shorter.
Try to use mirror images when you are not targeted, then follow with a ffb right after. You look just like the images when you do that(for three seconds), and its funny to confuse the enemy.
AV is the only battleground I can do 10-0-60 on. Its like fighting a whole bunch of small Patchwerks. All the other BGs seems to attract more mage-killing focus. You will die alot, but at least you are taking their minds off of... say... capturing a flag.

I mean it. Get to work.
