I have been PVP my ffb mage with my raid spec and raid gear for a while... and being in a guild that likes to duel when were assembling raids i have learned a few tricks for the upclose 1 on 1. and believe me when i say i takes an exceptional warrior to best me. most other classes are give and take, and a few are sure loss.

frost nova with blast wave macro is an essential panic button. you will lock them to the ground and push them back.

use dragon breath when u have it then folow up with ffb then blast wave then ffb.. thattle take em to half health.

dont forget cone of cold then blink will give u distance and snare them.

frost nova mele, take 2 steps back cast ffb. then use another snare and blink. this is effective scince frost nova actually holds them in one place

and dont forget... open with sheep, it allows a perfect chance to get a ffb in first.. and if u crit for 7 or 8 k it will make a big difference
