Breakfast topic: The impossible achievements
Every evening there's a guy on my server who spams looking for group for an "experienced" group to do the Less-rabi and Make it Count Heroic Dungeon achievements. This has been going on for weeks now. I kind of feel bad for the guy. Some of the dungeon achievements are harder than others, but these have clearly been a pain for him. He really wants the Glory of the Hero achievement, and I hate the Occulus enough that I really can't bring myself to help him. I never hear him complaining about the achievements being difficult, he just keeps at it. It's actually quite admirable. My guild has a few overachievers in it. We usually do the best we can to lend them a hand, but they seem to grind endlessly to earn their points.
I don't usually go off in search of achievements, but there's one I just can't seem to get. Since I'm playing Druid it seems appropriate to get the Guardian of Cenarius title/achievement. The problem is not that it's difficult, but since my character was created after WotLK was released, I have no Cenarian Circle rep to speak of. I find it hard to make the time to go back to the old world and grind rep while still working on endgame progression.
What's your elusive achievement?

Guardian of Cenarius is also my white whale, as the the one for 40 exalted factions.

warlocks rule :) took about 5 hours for this to exalted, course i was also doing the t.5 quest which is what got me started, and went all the way and killed a raid boss for the scepter.
timbermaw was even less

Guardian of Cenarius was the one thing that i wanted more than anything for my druid... it took a fair while, but i managed to get it done. CC rep was just time consuming more than anything... took a fair while of grinding mobs to get that to exalted, but it wasnt as bad as you might think... but maybe thats just because i do that sort of thing (i have 5 chars exalted with the kurenai/mag'har :P)
CE was worse for me. i wasnt yet 80 when i was doing it, so soloing steamvaults was a bit out of my reach at the time, and i didnt have mountains of gold to buy coilfang armaments, even when they DID appear on the ah (which wasnt that often).

I went from Neutral to Exalted in about four days with CE. I did all the quests I could find, then ground Cultists for Encrypted Twilight Text, which you can turn in ten at a time for 500 rep. Look for Twilight Prophets; there are two of them and they are a semi-rare spawn, but they drop from 5 to 10 Encrypted Twilight Text. You'll also collect a huge amount of Runecloth, which you can turn in for Alliance city rep, or make cheap bags for alts or guildies, or sell, or whatever.
fwiw, ymmv

The Undying.
Everything was going fine until a lapse of judgment on my part MTing the KT fight killed myself trying to save a healer.

As a druid, you are already Friendly I believe with CC. ;) Good luck with the rep! If you can, find a partner (preferably a pally or DK tank) and do some AQ20...loads of rep in there!
Gessilea May 9th 2009 11:18AM
I am always forgetting one can do AQ20 for this. I'm in the same boat as Amanda - I'd love to get this title for my druid, but the rep grinding is such a pita.

Less Rabi is the hardest of all the Glory achievements, hands down. Many intentional wipes getting that one, and a whole lot of luck. Mind you we were in blues and minor epics at the time. The key for us was not having a dedicated healer, but instead i rolled elemental and we nuked and prayed. Guardian of Cenarius was actually easy if you run AQ40/20, boss marks from 40 give CC rep and everything in 20 gives u CC rep.
The achievement that is going to drive me mad when i muster up the balls to do it is, They Love Me in That Tunnel, since im revered with timbermaw 1000/21000, with no marks to speak of since i didnt realize b4 hand to save the feathers and such and just grind to revered with the actual kill rep. And @ revered u get no kill rep. ::SIGH::
Miatela May 9th 2009 8:50AM
The number of beads to be turned in was halved in 3.0.8 I think (possibly 3.0.2). This realisation hit me when I went exalted from revered with an extra 300 beads still in my bag.
*facepalm*

I was farming around Timbermaw Hold for runecloth, so I figured I'd just multi-task and get the achievement as well. It wasn't so bad, but once you hit revered you stop getting rep from killing the beasts (I forget what they're called) around the Hold.

The only one who needs to die is the tank tho, the rest run up the stairs and reset him :)

My main has Guardian of Cenarius.
He's also a Warlock. Oh the irony.
Anyway, yea, Cenarion Circle was a pain, but I suggest you just go to one of the twilight cultist camps in Silithus. Take the clothes whenever available, and turn in the Elemental Signets for max rep, and just keep collecting Encrypted Twilight Texts for the repeatable quest. Also, there are sometimes a few up on the AH, you might want to check there.
Crash May 9th 2009 8:43AM
Guardian of Cenarius is EEEZY! Everyone and their uncle is in northrend, Silithus is abandoned zone and you won't have any problems grinding rep for CC.

(This is also MichelleK. I don't know why I can't add the K anymore, but whatever.)
Also, to do Less Rabi you have to have really good DPS with probably at least a food buff and heroism.
For Make it Count you really have to know the instance well, and have good DPS.
I can see why the guy in your trade channel was having difficulty completing these two achievements. He's trying to PuG them. To find competent PuGs this far in LK (meaning: people that still need Heroics for gear and badges; that don't have at least Naxx10 gear) is probably very difficult. I feel bad for him if he's in a guild and his guild-mates aren't willing to help him out for the last two achievements. :( Granted, that's saying if he and his guild are even capable of the DPS the two achievements demand.
Miatela May 9th 2009 8:47AM
I found Less-rabi to also be incredibly frustrating. It was bad enough having to do it on my resto druid (specced to balance for a 4 dps, 1 tank setup) but to then promise my better half I would get the achievement done for her only to find that I know nothing of shadow priest dps was fun!
Guardian of Cenarius is a rather easy achievement to get. A few hours spent killing the Cultists to get the Encrypted Twilight Texts isn't too demanding and I found it relaxing (though I did it during 2.4 just for something to do).
I also finished off the rep grind for 40 Exalted and I found that the rep grind for the Cartel was actually very short which was rather disappointing and took only 5 days of pirate killing. I would love Blizzard to implement a new side faction which contains a long and tedious rep grind for a vanity reward. Grinding without the feeling of doing it for gold to raid or similar is very relaxing in my opinion.
The Insane beckons for me over the summer vacation from Uni though I'm finding the volume of gold require rather prohibitive.

The Safety Dance.
I love my guild. Really, I do. But this one is never going to happen.
liu May 9th 2009 10:53AM
If your guild can't dance, just PuG it - that's how I picked up Safety Dance, Shocking!, Make Quick Werk of Him, and Undying.
DeathPaladin May 9th 2009 11:47AM
To paraphrase what liu said:
You can dance if you want to
You can leave your guildies behind
'Cause your guild can't dance
And if they can't dance
Then they're no guildies of mine
Maxilimus May 9th 2009 11:55AM
you got ALL OF THOSE from a PUG!?
