Forum post of the day: Sorting out the BADS

Abberforth of Shadow Council offered up a "Basic Assumption and Discernment System. this handy, though tongue-in-cheek guide to selecting members for a PUG. He uses simple assumptions in a players initial presentation of self to determine if a player is a good candidate for invitation. These guidlines warn players to be cautious of Elves, Death Knights, and folks with untypable or unintelligible names.
Remember that this guide is for amusement only. There are several other factors that go into good PUG players- like do they run into Nexus when you invite them for Occulus?
Here's how I rate:
Beginning score 0
1. 0 Tauren Shaman or Druid
2. 1 Braided pig tails
3. 0 Both contain mandy in the name
4. 0 All characters in my names are easily accessible on the keyboard
5. 0 most people don't read Latin
6. 0 Female Characters, that bear my name
7. 0 Though I usually wear a Rep Tabard in Heroics
8. 0 But my mom is awesome
9. 0 Had Jenkins on my other Druid, but not the current one
10. 0 I usually do the summoning
11. +1 Though I rarely use punctuation at the end of my sentences, people think there's something wrong when I do. I also never use "lol" and rarely use any form l33t. I generally invite people to use Vent, since I wear a headset they can't hear Egg Radio playing in the background.
That brings my total to +2, I pass the test.

The best bit was all the elf dks that didn't understand the humour and came to rage in the comments.
Grubba May 9th 2009 4:32PM
Kinda like the people nerdraging it up in these comments.

I have 0 points D:

I agree that this system is stupid. Even if you used it correctly, you are still very likely to get a 'BAD' when pugging.
There are quite alot of BADS out there....

Yeah Oink, now we have the two great minds of the Amandas at WI. Now we can get our daily dose of plagiarism and butchering of the English language!

I'm feeling a serious sense of deja vu here. Didn't I read this post yesterday?
mandy May 9th 2009 3:23PM
Thank you all for the warm (and cold) welcome. It's good to be back!
And not Echo Isles, I'm on Hydraxis these days.
Walmarto May 9th 2009 3:32PM
Um they were talking to beep, not you. Threads are hard.
aelfscine May 9th 2009 3:39PM
I'd add 'flags themselves at the summoning stone and gets killed.'
"We totally pwned those Horde lololol"

One of my guildies has a policy of not grouping with Blood Elf Death Knights who have "Death", "Knight" or "Arthas" in their name. I'm sure there are examples out there who perform better than the stereotype but in general DPS Death Knights on our realm (at least the ones who are pugging heroics) are pretty poor players.

I thought the post was hilarious, but I'm living proof that it's not all that useful. I got 3 points, and I am unbelievably bad at grouping. The one time I tried running with a PUG, I was five levels above everyone else and below the healer on the DPS meters (I'm a hunter). I took up multiboxing in an effort to improve because inflicting my badness on other people while I tried to learn to run instances seemed cruel.

I love how people get all butt hurt over the Elf discrimination. It won't ever stop, so I don't see why people strive to work against it. If it bothers you that much, you shouldn't of rolled an Elf in the first place, and it's not like that discrimination exists outside of constant jokes and ribbing.
They're all so popular that often times you don't have a choice but to run with one, anyway.

i really really failed to understand ANYTHING about this post...anything...

Glad to have you back mandy, missed your blog posts, hope you stick around for a while.

This post is completely illegible.
Agony May 10th 2009 2:52PM
...
If you say so...but I was able to understand you just perfectly. But if you want your post to be illegible, so be it.

The guy who made that guide is in a guild called VooDoo Reborn. He gets two points of based on his own guide. (step 5)

...Wow. I can get paid for writing like this too? This is a horrible piece of writing, of which I've managed to get very little meaning out of. Even a simple spell check might have helped, but I feel the idea is even beyond understanding.
In this article, you've misspelled "Oculus", managed to not end a quoted title with a quotation mark, used poor syntax, specifically in the form of sentence fragments, started sentences with lowercase letters, misused commas, and simply ripped off some WoW forum poster's idea.
How is this acceptable for a successful, supposedly professional blog? There are so many more qualified WoW commenter out there in the Blogosphere.

Dang what's with all the Amanda-hating and nit-picking in these comments? I don't think any of the WI writers are especially gifted (except maybe Matthew Rossi) or experienced with basic copy editing, but I rarely see their articles get torn apart in comments.
As for the original article, I thought it was hilarious, and I only scored a 1. Btw, is nelf-hate only for guys or do us women get it too? Cuz my toon's a female nelf and I find male nelfs pretty annoying and weird-looking. Especially the ones with mohawks.
