Wintergrasp quests undergoing significant changes
You know those Wintergrasp dailies you like to do for some easy gold, honor, and Stone Keeper's Shards?Wave goodbye to them.
In an upcoming patch*, those daily quests will be turned into weekly quests that will reset every Tuesday morning at 3:00 a.m. Crygil explains that the honor and number of Stone Shards will be increased along with this change. There is no indication if the amount of gold will be increased, however I doubt it will change significantly from what it is.
There are two additional "known issues" with this change.
First, the quest mark "!" will show over the quest giver's heads instead of a "?".
Secondly, when the quests reset at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, players near the NPC will need to move out of line of sight of the NPC in order for the quests to appear.
My guess is that each week there will be a "new version" of the quest, so to speak. This "new version" is exactly the same as last week's quest, but just has a new quest ID associated with it. This would explain both "issues" that Crygil mentioned.
We'll have more on this tomorrow, or when we get new information in. Look for the exact quest objectives and rewards then (this information has not been released yet).
*Update: These changes have appeared on the latest PTR patch this evening. Given that, and additional comments from Crygil tongiht, it seems unlikely these changes will go live tomorrow.

That's not how I imagined it, but I wish it was, as it is incredibly epic.

This change is retarded. Wintergraveyard is right. Werent they just complaining 2 months ago about how PVP numbers were wayyyyy down??
Blizzard is getting overconfident in themselves, thats what this is.
Fix something that isn't broken: wintergrasp
Fix something that is broken: Your team of amateur game designers that are ruining the game.

Wintergrasp _IS_ broken. Lag kills it. Strange as it may sound, they're actually trying to decrease the amount of people playing it at any given time. This is very good for casual PvP'ers. Others...maybe not so much.

Probably to make Wintergrasp insanely laggy on Tuesdays and slow the rest of the week?
akw May 12th 2009 12:15PM
Why would everyone do it on Tuesday if A) they know they have all week to get it done, and B) they know Tuesday (if everyone does it tuesday) would be laggy as hell?
If the first Tuesday sucks due to lag, I expect people to reveal their rational nature and say "eff this" and try again later.
All of the people who ran WG just for the quest honor and WG tokens will now spread out their presence over the entire week, and that will leave only those people who run it for the sake of running it.

Is Blizzard intent on making Wintergrasp another empty BG?
Leigh May 11th 2009 8:51PM
It better be like 50 Stone Keeper Shards per quest...
Taladan May 11th 2009 10:08PM
More like 20. It should probably be 21 (7 days * 3 shards per quest), but I guess they would round it down.
Also, I expect they would put it even down (15?).
Anyway, boring. I mean, it's fun "having an excuse" to do WG every day (and get some marks/shards/gold) but I guess the problem right now is that a lot of people concentrate in one point of the WG (the fortress) and forget everything else. This change will still make the fortress laggy after the reset, but it "free" people to do the other tasks you have to do to win WG without worrying about killing players/tanks/towers...
Marveen May 12th 2009 4:39AM
Well, even if they round down it means you now have a chance at finishing ALL the dailies in the week, instead of just 3-5. Which is the case now unless you're a dedicated pvper.
So, round down if you like, but 1 week * 15 SKS/quest * 7-9 quests/week > 4-5 days * 3 SKS/quest * 3-5 quests/day. Even if you only do 7 quests a week you'll get 105 SKS compared to 75 SKS if can only do 5 WG quests a day 5 times a week.

so basically another change to cater to entitled casuals
awesome
Yeng May 12th 2009 10:11AM
How is this a change for 'casuals'? Your logic makes no sense.
Tim_james63 May 11th 2009 8:52PM
Well that sucks.
Though lag should decrease..... Less motivation to play WG.
Scones May 11th 2009 8:55PM
Well that just screws up WG. It is really the only reason that many people do.
Erdromian May 17th 2009 3:38AM
Dude, i do Wintergrasp casually and the only reason i ever DO go isnt because of the quests, its because of VoA.
Either so my guild can do it during the scheduled raid time or so i can get into a group; almost guaranteed a spot for it after the battles over (tanks FTW!!!)
Fyve & Boomstick May 11th 2009 8:56PM
Awwwwh, poor blizz, unable to handle the amount of players in a non instanced battleground, they are forced to try to lessen the appeal, rather than try to lessen the lag...
I'm really not sure thats gonna work out
If they've got different quest Id's, will they count seperately towards 'The Seeker'?
mitch May 11th 2009 9:54PM
Was thinking that myself. Still it's only once per week so it won't effect it too much (short term anyway)
Kanuris May 11th 2009 11:43PM
Blizzard uses some of the best actual hardware and software on their servers in the entire freaking world.
There's not a whole lot they can do to fix lag induced by having several hundred people in the same area.
