WorldofWar.net hosting livechat with author Richard A. Knaak
WoW authors seem to be in the spotlight of late and after their last live chat with Arthas authoress Christie Golden, WorldofWar.net have already got the next one - this time with Richard A. Knaak - set up.
Taking place this Thursday -- that's May 14th -- at 8pm EST, the live chat is mainly focusing on Knaak's latest novel Night of the Dragon, which was released just a few days before Wrath. It continued the adventures of Blue Dragon Kalec and Krasus of the Red Dragonflight. The storyline is particularly relevant to Wrath as it introduces the Twilight Dragonflight (Sarth's minions in Obsidian Sanctum).

Only if I had something better to say than "I LOVE YOUR BOOKS, WILL YOU SIGN MY E-BUTT!?"...
Robert May 11th 2009 2:29PM
He looks like the Yessss guy off of the Simpsons.
Kylenne May 11th 2009 2:33PM
"Authoress"? Really?
Mary Sue May 11th 2009 2:40PM
I love his books so much...
Endario May 11th 2009 2:46PM
I see what you did there.
Night of the Dragon was one of the most painful books I've ever read... Day wasn't much better, but this one was just... gaaaah...

Well played good sir. Well played.

That took me a moment.
If we get to ask questions I'm gonna go for something like:
"Did you know you're one of the worst things to happen to Warcraft lore? Like.. ever? I mean seriously, you are aware of how many awful characters you created. And not even for WoW, but for fiction in general."
Dhryke May 11th 2009 3:01PM
I personally like all his books! One gripe though, WoWinsider said by reading, Night of the Dragon, I would learn why the hell we are going into the Obsidian Sanctum and killing Sartharion. It did introduce the twilight dragonflight, and is a good read. Again though. Why are we there?

So exciting and original. His prose is poetic, yet precise. His concepts are ground breaking, characters fresh yet familiar.
My question would be - what is the name of the grade schooler who writes your trash?

This just in: Knaak is still a hack.
Really. I went into reading Day of the Dragon (the sheer originality of his titles is astonishing, too) a year or two ago without knowing anything about Knaak's notoriously bad writing. I blinked by page three and asked myself: "This. This is a real, published, 300 something paged book? Written like this? Run on sentences and repetitive vocabulary a fifth grader would be using?" How in the name of hell did this moron manage to get a job writing lore for one of the world's most popular video game franchises?
Just keep that in mind, folks. Writing ability has /nothing/ to do with one's success as an author if Knaak can make it.

INB4 Knaak hate.
Damn, too slow.

If you think Knaak writes bad, check out the Baldur's Gate books. At least Knaak doesn't write stuff like that.
I've only read Day of the Dragon so far, but I just wish he'd mothball Rhonin the "Master of Everything" already. What about some of the actually established characters of Warcraft lore, like Mankrik's wife?

While Day/Night of the Dragon were pretty terribly written (though the basic storyline of Day was decent, imo), War of the Ancients was actually pretty damn good in comparison, and felt to me like it fit right in to lore, if you ignore the time travel that was an obvious reason to keep his own characters in the major histories of Warcraft.

hahaha! he looks like a dork! that made me lol.

Sure Knaak gets a lot of criticism, and sure Christie is the superior Warcraft writer, he isnt that bad. Deathwing and Alextrasza are two of my fav characters and since he's the only who writes about them there's nothing i can do to complain. I do think his best works is War of the Ancients Trilogy. I did attend the question and answer with him and i got him to think about writing Deathwing: Birth of the Destroyer, if Blizz lets him. So if that or anything similar pops up in the next year or so, its because of me!
