I use the Alliance Lance to beat up champions, and the Argent Lance to kill scourge.
No particular reason, it just kinda makes sense :P

I know you have to have the Argent Lance equipped to fight the Black Knight and to mount the Argent Chargers when doing the dailies out front of Icecrown Citadel. The Horde (or Alliance) Lance has to be equipped for me to mount the faction mounts (e.g. - Stabled Silvermoon Hawkstrider) for jousting with Champions and Valiants.

That's not true. Every day I destroyed a different one, did all quests and everything was fine. They are the same, except for looks.

One lace works fine.

I use the same lance to joust Valiants, joust Champions and Joust Scourge.

When you try to mount any mount for the Argent stuff it just says "You must have a lance equipped" it does not specify Argent or Plyaer faction.

Don't sweat it anyway, the questgiver will always try to give you one when you pick up the scourge jousting quests (City and Argent versions)
