Tuesday Morning Post: Pod Person edition

Still, even if the landscape of Northrend is starting to look somewhat sterile, there's still buzzing going on in the background, at least. Patch 3.1.2 remains on the PTR and even has some updated notes, There's a Murloc Marine on the loose, the first round of tickets for BlizzCon will be released in scant days, and we have a plethora of interesting pets and mounts showing up in the game files. I was really expecting a major "update" to WoWInterface's client, and I found myself very dissapointed when I saw that they were making a new site etc, probably going to suck ass.

I don't understand this talk about Northrend being boring. People need to stop looking at WoW through their Nostalgia glasses and realise that WoW is way better now than it was before.
Being jaded with the game does not mean that the game world has become more sterile; it means that you need to take a break from the game.

You're right - thanks for making me realise this, canceling my recurring payment now.

I find that rolling a new toon or even returning to quest in old world or old world instances really helps put things in perspective. This game has evolved (or devolved depending on your POV) a great deal. But saying that northrend has no ambiance is like saying the beatles music is to simplistic. Now I'll admit that they really dropped the ball on some places, IC mainly comes to mind, but in all I still feel that northrend is the most beautifully created world they've put in. Eastern and Western Continents are boring, Outland, while technically well done (after all its a destroyed world and looks it) is a bunch of jagged rocks you have to fly over. Northrend is the first place they've really been able to shine outside of instances. The plant life looks great, the animals and their interactions are awesome (something that doesn't happen in vanilla wow btw), and their are way better lighting effects and models which do nothing if add to the ambiance. Ever flown down through that big rift right in front of UD and looked at the mist and watched the lightning? Pretty neat stuff.
