Beating Cheese for Glowergold
I could not agree more -- of all of the cooking dailies, Cheese for Glowergold is my least favorite. All of the cooking collecting quests usually involve a little shoulder rubbing with people doing the same quest -- Infused Mushroom Meatloaf is another one where it's usually every man for himself down in those sewers. But none of them are more annoying than Glowergold's quest. I don't know if it's just that the respawn time seems longer, or that there are fewer spawn points and more to collect (you need six glasses, which doesn't seem like much as collecting quests go, but it's a lot while doing it), or that there's no specific place to find the glasses (they're littered around tables, usually in restaurants, around Dalaran). But yeah -- every time the wine and cheese quest comes up, I sigh, knowing that I'm going to be standing in the inn straight across from the cheese shop waiiting for a spawn. But just so this isn't a complete QQ post, let's give you a few tips for next time. That inn is usually where I stand, but it's pretty crowded -- it's definitely worth, after just picking up the quest, looking around the faction inn where you get the cooking daily as there's usually one or two in there. And I didn't know this, but apparently there are a few spawn points downstairs in The Cantrips and Crows tavern (so when you run down there for the Jewel of the Sewers, keep an eye out for glasses also). And there are four spawns in the Violet Hold as well (so you can stop by and grab those while picking up the Heroic and dungeon dailies).
This might help a bit, but the fact is that this is an annoying quest, made more annoying when someone swoops in and grabs that glass you were headed for. Bornakk rightfully says it doesn't need a nerf (and as more people get everything they want out of the cooking dailies, we'll probably see less competition out there), but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

I also disagree, its a daily which doesnt require you to leave dalaran, your moaning because sometimes not all 6 glasses are found just after you pick up the quest. Guaranteed you get two or three from the inn where you pick up the quest. so you go to the other inn, and lo and behold, no glasses (And yes of course you remembered to check the bedrooms upstairs). So go get the cheese then.
You now have two options, go pick up your other profession dailys (j/cing/fishing), or go sell up some stuff in your bag before you get the last ones. (from either the north or south inn)
Either way you dont have to use any of your own matts (chilled meat or rhino dogs) which is a bonus, and you get gold for it. It is without a doubt the easiest cooking daily in the game (including the TBC ones).Stop QQing Schramm your sounding like a warlock.

TBH, this is by far my favourite cooking daily...
in fact, its the only one I will always do.
Also, I'm generally online at peak work/school finishing time, and rarely have difficulty tracking down le wine.

My favourite daily is the Jug of Wine one. I have never had any problems with it not spawning. It's the same with Glowergold. Well, sometimes I do have to wait for a glass or two to spawn, but it's nothing serious. As for chilled and rhino meat, I simply buy them on the AH. They're really cheap. The only cooking daily I don't do is Sewer Stew - I can't be bothered to fly down to Crystalsong, mostly because it takes too long to find those stupid carrots.

I'm always happy when this one comes up. Its quick and easy to do (i've never had to wait more than a minute on glasses - theyre everywere, especially the Legdermain) and requires no materials before you start. Easy peasy.

I actually really like the Glowergold quest. I don't usually have any problems picking up the glasses, and tend to go straight for the ones in the Violet Hold area as no one seems to know about them on my server.
The quests that involve chilled meat annoy me, because, for some reason, it doesn't matter how much I farm, I always seem to be short of one, so it's a trip out to farm more or a trip to an AH to buy it.

Getting the carrots in Crystalsong has to be the most horrendous. At least the other quests can be done relatively quicker.

If the taverns are empty of glasses, just go up the stairs into the bedrooms. Usually a couple of glasses in there that most people ignore or forget about.
Avan May 14th 2009 7:50AM
On my server, I can usually grab 5 before leaving the Horde inn. At the busiest time, I have 2 at most before leaving.
How easy this quest is largely depends on what time you're doing it.

Yep- I like this cooking daily second best- right behind mustard dogs- since there are no mat costs. Mustard Dogs get the edge because of the strangely over-rewarding double tokens.
The glasses of wine for this quest can be picked up all over Dalaran. Even if they are camped, just take them from someone in front of you. Chances are, they'd do it to you too.
But if you'd like to keep a 'clean' reputation, then just wait. I never take them from anyone, and I get this quest done in about 3 minutes every time.

Even with the wine glasses in the Horde Inn, the Wine shop itself and the Ledgermain Inn - it still takes me now on average - about 15-20 minutes for this daily quest alone. The wine jug one? So easy, b/c people are not needing to get SIX of them. Throw in the lag in Dalaran - aka Lagaran - and you have a mostly annoying daily.
The suggestions to "go to a different realm" are quite laughable. Especially with how long some of us have been on realms and the friends we've made. Now I can see if you have no friends why you'd suggest moving to a lower population realm, but some of us do have friends.

personally i think this quest is the easiest of the cooking dailies. i dont have to leave dalaran to do it and i never have any trouble finding the cheese or wine glasses.
tulipblossom May 14th 2009 9:35AM
I've actually sort of always felt the opposite, to be honest. I really enjoy these type of cooking dailies. Sometimes I do have to make two or three laps around Dalaran, to get all of my ingredients. But, it just doesn't really hinder me or bug me at all. Maybe, I just do my dailies at lucky times, though.
My least favorite cooking daily, is actually "sewer stew." I really don't enjoy this daily. I know it sounds lazy, but I just hate flying down into Crystalsong and grabbing those carrots. I lag enough in Dalaran, but luckily when I'm there, I'm usually sitting in one spot. But, I lag almost equally as bad in Crystalsong and to have to swoop down in and grab carrots, I don't know, I just really don't enjoy it. When I do decide to ever skip doing a cooking daily, it's always sewer stew. x3
My favorite happens to be "mustard dogs." I just think it's adorable in every way and love doing this one.
Blackjacks May 14th 2009 1:19PM
It would be nice to speed up the spawn time and the quantity of the cheese and the glasses
Saphia May 14th 2009 10:36AM
Man, Cheese is the only daily cooking I do any more. With three alts to get through, there's no point in wasting all that meat for the other quests. But when Glowergold comes around, it takes less than 10 minutes per alt to get the quests done. Remember, ally and horde get different daily cooking quests too so you're only competing against one side at a time.
Thorakar May 14th 2009 11:39AM
Ok, i've done this one on two servers, both alliance, first on Coilfang where there is probably the lowest alliance 80 population on any server and i could get all the glasses anywhere i would go, would take me a minute. Now i'm on Kil Jaeden, a high population server, high on alliance too and it can take up to 10 minutes to get all of those, sometime its even worse I don't see one in 10 minutes.
I know what you mean, I used to like doing it back on low pop server, know its a pain in the @$$.
Thorakar, Alliance, KilJaeden
Randolyn May 14th 2009 11:45AM
I gotta go with the crowd on this one. Glowergold is easy.
The cooking daily I hate, and usually skip, is Sewer Stew. I can never find those damn carrots.
Jyotai May 14th 2009 11:50AM
The Wine glass daily is the easiest of them - all the glasses are all over Dalaran and I can usually get, find, and turn in the quest in the 2 minutes between getting a summon to an instance and accepting it...
The hardest one is the Mustard Dogs ones - I have to actually leave the nearby area to finish it... They need to have wild Rhinos running up and down the streets of Dalaran. :D
Selene May 14th 2009 12:25PM
The Glowergold quest is actually my favorite, heh: it doesn't require any of my own materials (saving me both money and time, as I keep all of my cooking supplies on a bank character so the other quests mean logging in and out a few times), and can be done entirely within Dalaran.
If you're not spoiling to amass tons of spices or cooking medals, I've found it works great to just pick up the quest and then wait a day to do it: then the city is filled with sparkling wine glasses for you alone to pick up.
I do also enjoy handing that snobby dwarf his fine 'snack', knowing that he's drinking backwash from a half-dozen sweaty Dalaran visitors. Mm, I wonder what a Forsaken or Tauren mouth is like after they've spent a month in Icecrown without brushing their teeth?
WootZoot May 14th 2009 12:50PM
On my server, the horde inn is always less crowded than the alliance, and usually has at least three to four wine glasses spawned at any one time. I just run over to their in, grab the glasses, and let their mages port me right next to the cheese shop. sweet deal.
Franlkin May 15th 2009 5:21PM
These qqs about the damn COOKING DAILY make me weep for the playerbase.
The original article is ridiculous -- how could anybody possibly think the Glowergold quest is so difficult that you need tips; the glasses are all over the place and spawn fast -- but the comments are too.
The sewer stew quest is hard? Because you have to use a crystal to transport instantly down to the forest? The carrots are all in a cluster along the river probably less than 100 yards from the transport crystal.
You are wasting chilled meat? Chilled meat on my server goes for, at most, 5g or so a stack. That stack will last you 5 quests even hitting the highest requirements each day. 5g for 50g traded. Hard to figure out how that's a waste.
The cooking daily is the easiest and quickest daily in the game -- 10 g (more if you sell the spices) for less than 5 minutes effort and you usually don't even have to leave Dalaran.
It just astonishes me the nits some people will complain about.
